Plus-sized P.I. Savannah Reid and her pals at the Moonlight Magnolia Detective Agency know a thing or two about fine dining. But when murder shows up on the menu, it's time to go back to the kitchen. . .When the Moonlight Magnolia gang learns their friends Ryan Stone and John Gibson are planning to open a chic new restaurant, they eagerly offer their input on everything from what dishes to serve to how many calories they should contain. But all Ryan and John can think about is how excited they are to have hired the temperamental but talented chef Baldwin Norwood. Too bad the only thing being sliced and diced in the kitchen is the chef himself. . .As Savannah turns her attention from munchies to murder, she quickly realizes the cantankerous chef left a bad taste in everyone's mouth, and any number of people could have whipped up a recipe for revenge. Could the jilted sous chef he stabbed in the back have done the same to him? Perhaps the loyal girlfriend he took for granted was finally fed up. Or maybe the business partner whose career he ruined had an appetite for blood. Savannah has her work cut out for her, and just when she thinks there couldn't be any more suspects, she uncovers a plot more precarious than a perfect soufflé. . .

Killer Gourmet (A Savannah Reid Mystery Book 20), by G.A. Mckevett

Review "At the outset of McKevett's engrossing 20th Savannah Reid mystery, Savannah, the proprietor of the Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency in San Carmelita, Calif., and her husband, Det. Sgt. Dirk Coulter attend a dinner party at a new restaurant owned by their friends Ryan Stone and John Gibson.... During the dessert course, a scream comes from the kitchen, where moments later Savannah spots the chef dead on the floor. Natural dialogue and characters with real-life problems set this series well above the cozy average once again." - Publishers Weekly"McKevett proves that marriage doesn't stop the fun, as Savannah and Dirk bicker and banter their way through their 20th case before retiring to the bedroom to enjoy a generous dollop of Chantilly cream for dessert." - Kirkus Reviews

Better and Better: Confessions of a cozy mystery husband By Crewman6 As other reviewers have noted, while the plot is excellent, it's the character development that elevates this series beyond all expectations. I get upset, I'm happy, I'm proud, sad, laughing... whatever is happening to the people in the story, I'm being pulled along with them. As much as I love the mystery element, if it was gone I think I'd still be in love with Savannah, Dirk, Tammy, Waycross... Granny Reid... Ryan, John, it just goes on and on. I want them to be happy, and worry when things aren't going well. I've read every book in the Savannah series, and it never gets stale. Fresh, interesting, thought-provoking reading in every can't-put-it-down turn of the page. Several years ago (really? wow, time flies) I wrote the author a note expressing how upset a certain event made me. She took the time to answer. In depth. In a fashion that totally satisfied me. I've been a fan ever since.Sonja doesn't pull her punches. But she takes her world responsibly. There's a reason behind every action, and often a message that carries into the real world for those who need it and know how to read between the lines. Or, like me, if you have to be hit between the eyes with a two by four to get any messages, the story itself is compelling without delving into deeper truths of the world. I can measure how much fun I'm having with a book by my snacking. The better the book, the more munchies I devour. And according to my wife, the more loudly I chew. In this book, I consumed no less than one large bowl of popcorn. Half a bag of grapes, and another quarter of the bag later. Half a bucket of chicken wings. Half a family bag of Lays Sour Cream and Onion potato chips. The book was totally immersive. I can't recommend the entire series enough, and each book reaches a new crescendo of pure reading fun. As another reviewer mentioned, even after 20 books, there's no lazy writing, no 'going flat'. Can't wait for the next book. Neither can my wife. We always pre-order two, so we don't have to take turns reading.Oh, and the teaser in my title? Savannah's kind of a cross-over book. She fits the cozy category quite nicely, but still manages to carve a rock solid niche in murder, mystery, suspense, and thriller territory. Note to mention some comedy, drama, and romance. Are you still reading this? Just buy the book. You can thank me later.

By Deanna Haddrill Every time I pick up one of GA McKevett's wonderful series about Savannah Reid and her amazing group of family and friends, it feels like I've come home. After 20 books in a series, you can often expect a series to lose its lustre, but this is certainly not the case here. What starts as a pleasant opening for John's and Ryan's new restaurant turns into mayhem when the head chef is found murdered in the kitchen. In a very well-written and intriguing mystery, I actually felt a little heart broken in regard to the killer. That's how well this book is written; if you're led to feel more than animosity towards the "bad guy".For me, though, the mystery is only secondary to the ongoing loves and relationships between the characters we have come to know and adore. There is really nothing I don't love about the Moonlight Magnolia gang, and I can not wait for the next installment.

I eagerly await each new release just to see what the characters have been up to since last we met.For fans of the series, newlyweds Savannah and Dirk continue to learn what marriage is really like, and lovebirds Tammy and Waycross are also much in evidence. As an added treat, Granny Reid pays a visit to San Carmelita during this latest release, as well. However, G.A. McKevett throws us a real curve ball in Killer Gourmet that had me guessing up until the last pages. The aftershock of this surprise will be moving things to a new level for Savannah and the gang in future books, I'm sure…Fans of the series will relish this newest entry, and those who enjoy a rich recipe of mystery with a generous helping of vivid characterization on the side will also want to pick up Killer Gourmet at their earliest opportunity. As always, an A++ for G.A. McKevett!!
