You have to read this series in order and believe me you wont be disappointed!! Isabel and The Wolf has a unique storyline that will keep you wanting to read more! It also has some hot and steamy scenes too!!Isabel was terrified was when the blindfold slipped while she and Peter were having sex. She pieces together that Peter and the Wolf are one in the same but that didn't make any sense. Isabel calls her friend Kara to talk with her about it and she seems to calm down. Kara books Isabel a flight back to Chicago so that she can get away from everything and think. She finally makes it back to Silver City to find that Peter's bike and stuff were gone from her house. Jed messages her and asked her out on a date. She has a great time with him and they schedule another date. Needless to say things get rather steamy and while having sex, he pulls out and tells her to turn over.....Not again... She confronts him on why he needs to do it doggie style and he tells her he can't explain, disappointed and angry, she leaves. When she gets home she is thinking through everything that happened and realizes that Jed and Peter are the same! She doesn't want to leave this small town, she has friends here, she has feelings for both Jed and Peter, can she deal with the fact that they are shifters and if so can she date both at the same time? This series is very fast paced and well written and I would suggest reading the series from start to finish!!

A wonderful ending for Isabel, Peter and Jed.....or maybe, just maybe, a beginning. Who knows? Hmm....Maybe the next series will tell Kara's story? Just a thought.....Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!!!

She runs to see her best friend for comfort and reassurance that she hasn’t lost her mind. She comes back and has a very romantic date with Jeb and the night ends with her having hope till she gets home and becomes despondent thinking of Peter. She has a second date with Jeb but this one ends with more question then answers and to many similarities to Peter for her to ignore. She begs Jeb to be honest with her because she has an idea of what he is but he refuses to answer her.She seeks out the three people she trust to answer her questions. One gives her the hard truth but she has a hard time accepting it as fact. So she goes to the couple she trust most and she answers all her questions without sugar coating it and leaves her feeling better. She goes and confronts Peter and they come to an understanding. Something happens to Jeb and it makes her realize her true feelings for both men but can she have her heart’s desire? To answer that you will have to read the book hehe. My only complaint is to Ariana that is not a nice way to end the book I WANT MORE!!!!!!!

Edgar Award-winner Bruce DeSilva returns with Liam Mulligan, an old-school investigative reporter for a dying newspaper in Providence, Rhode Island.

Inspired by a true story, Providence Rag finds Mulligan, his pal Mason, and the newspaper they both work for at an ethical crossroad. The youngest serial killer in history butchered five of his neighbors before he was old enough to drive. When he was caught eighteen years ago, Rhode Island's antiquated criminal statutes―never intended for someone like him―required that all juveniles, no matter their crimes, be released at age twenty-one. The killer is still behind bars, serving time for crimes supposedly committed on the inside.

That these charges were fabricated is an open secret; but nearly everyone is fine with it―if the monster ever gets out more people will surely die. But Mason is not fine with it. If officials can get away with framing this killer they could do it to anybody. As Mason sets out to prove officials are perverting the justice system, Mulligan searches frantically for some legal way to keep the monster behind bars. The dueling investigations pit the friends against each other in a high-stakes race against time―and snares them in an ethical dilemma that has no right answer.

Providence Rag (Liam Mulligan), by Bruce DeSilva

From Booklist *Starred Review* The third entry in this gritty newspaper series spans 20 years, from 1992 to 2012, at the start of which a teenage male commits five gruesome murders, is imprisoned for them, and, years later, becomes the center of a campaign to free prisoners convicted as juveniles. Liam Mulligan, the series hero, is a longtime newspaperman for a Providence, Rhode Island, paper who has witnessed the reduction of resources and the firings of friends, all the while still loving the imperiled business. Mulligan’s coverage of the murders in 1992 was partially responsible for finding the killer. Under the state’s criminal code, the killer should have been released at age 21, but creative fiddling has kept this killer safely behind bars. The son of the paper’s publisher wants to launch an investigation into what he sees as corruption, making the killer’s freedom a looming possibility. The ethical dilemma seems a bit forced, but it does raise the possibility of more mayhem to come. But there is real suspense here. And Mulligan’s character, played off the vicissitudes of his job, is skillfully layered and engaging. DeSilva, who worked for decades at the AP, won an Edgar for Best First Novel for Rogue Island (2010). He knows of what he writes. --Connie Fletcher

Review “Edgar-winner DeSilva melds moral dilemmas with a suspenseful plot in his third novel featuring Providence, R.I.-based reporter Liam Mulligan (after 2012's Cliff Walk), his best yet.” ―Publisher's Weekly, Starred Review

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The Potential Release of a Psychosexual Killer Creates Havoc in Bruce DeSilva's Provocative Thriller, "Providence Rag" By J. B. Hoyos Liam Mulligan, sports reporter for Rhode Island's "Providence Dispatch," begins a new line of reporting when he is asked by his boss to investigate the brutal stabbing deaths of Becky Medeiros and her four-year-old daughter, Jessica. Two years later, another blond woman and her children are slaughtered in the same fashion. Mulligan helps solve the crimes. The perp's identity does not fit the FBI's profile of a typical serial killer. When the perp is eligible for parole, prison officials fabricate reasons for keeping him in prison. All hell breaks loose when Mulligan's young, ambitious coworker, Edward Mason, begins a one-man crusade to free the serial killer. I must brag about Bruce DeSilva's provocative thriller, "Providence Rag." It is one of the most thoroughly entertaining novels I've read this year; it is positively engrossing. "Providence Rag" is the best of the Liam Mulligan trilogy, which includes "Rogue Island" (Rogue Island) and "Cliff Walk" [Cliff Walk: A Liam Mulligan Novel]. Spanning several decades, the novel chronicles the life of a psychosexual killer from childhood to adult. It is controversial in that it raises questions about nature versus nurture in regards to the creation of a serial killer. Does an abusive environment create a serial killer or simply reinforce their innate desire to murder? I found it disturbing that the serial killer's collection of favorite horror films mirrored my own. However, I am not a serial killer. Coincidentally, both the serial killer and I were raised in Christian homes with supportive, loving families. The serial killer in "Providence Rag" chooses to kill; I do not. Perhaps DeSilva's novel would have been more aptly titled, "Providence Rage." Many are enraged over the events of this novel, including myself. The serial killer may be released and all of Rhode Island is enraged. I detest the serial killer, who is extremely perverse, demented, and amoral. He declares his innocence while dreaming of being released so that he can kill again. I am angry at the rich, spoiled Mason who is working diligently to free the serial killer while his coworkers, Mulligan and Gloria Costa (a victim of a brutal attack herself), are diligently trying to thwart his efforts and keep the murderer in prison. Sometimes, there are hilarious consequences. Mason suffers much abuse (in the form of threatening letters, a vandalized car, etc.) from concerned citizens and prison guards. I kept wondering when Mason was going to realize that this scumbag's freedom wasn't worth the suffering he was enduring. However, he is persistent that justice be served despite the consequences towards him and the many blonde women who are potential prey when the killer who is released. "Providence Rag" is both a superb whodunit and a gripping courtroom drama. Much of the novel is spent on Mulligan and his police friend, Andy Jennings, investigating the brutal slayings of two blonde women and their daughters. Next, the perp is incarcerated and, years later, Mulligan must relive the nightmare as he struggles with his conscious while trying to keep the serial killer locked away. "Providence Rag" is seeped with human drama. I felt sorrow for Mulligan as he experiences one tragedy after another as the years pass. His trips to the graveyard to visit a dear friend tore at my heart. His coworker, Gloria, must struggle with her fear that the serial killer will be released. Her eye patch is a constant reminder of the pain she suffered from one brutal attack. Meanwhile, Mulligan, Gloria, and Mason must also live with the fear of losing their jobs as subscriptions for the "Providence Dispatch" are cancelled because of a disastrous economy and anger over its publication of articles that will help free the serial killer. There is something for everyone in Bruce DeSilva's superb "Providence Rag": a vicious psychosexual killer, gory killings, a riveting whodunit, controversial political issues, emotional human drama, dark humor, and tender romance. I can't give this novel enough praise. All mystery fans should read it. What disturbs me the most about this novel is that it is based on two actual serial killers who terrorized Rhode Island. DeSilva, a former reporter for the "Providence Journal," obviously knows what he is writing about in this fast-paced novel, which reads like non-fiction. Readers will stay up late to learn the identity of the serial killer and whether or not he will go free. I can't wait to read DeSilva's next Liam Mulligan novel to learn if it as good as "Providence Rag." That is going to be a tough act to follow.Joseph B. Hoyos

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Anything but Providence By David A. Ames What a good and fast read. DeSilva has done it again with his third novel of murder and corruption in Providence and Rhode Island. Having worked at the Providence Journal newspaper he knows the terrain well and developed his plot accordingly. A fine book unless you are squeamish.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Mysterious Book Report No 161 - Providence Rag By John McKenna Mysterious Book Report No 161 - Providence Ragby John Dwaine McKennaOne of my favorite literary characters and amateur sleuths is a wise-cracking, cigar-chomping, hometown-homeboy ace investigative reporter and crime-fighting journalist by the name of Liam Mulligan. He’s based in Providence, Rhode Island, working for a venerated, one hundred forty year old newspaper that’s barely managing to stay afloat, thanks mostly to the publisher’s deep sense of responsibility to the city and public he serves . . . and his willingness to subsidize it from his own pocket. Mulligan’s job hangs by a thread, but he keeps right on doing it to the best of his ability; an act which makes him a noble character, worthy of our attention, if not our adulation. He’s the creation of Bruce DeSilva, himself an old newspaperman with forty years of reporting experience to his credit. His newest work is Providence Rag, (Forge/Tom Doherty & Associates, $25.99, 351 pages, ISBN 978-0-7653-7429-5), in which Mulligan and the paper he works for are caught on the horns of an ethical dilemma. At issue is Rhode Island’s youngest-ever serial killer. He’s an unrepentant monster who killed five of his neighbors as a young teenager, not yet old enough to drive a car. He’s due to be released from prison because of a technicality in the law which states that all teenaged prisoners, no matter what the crime, must be released on their twenty-first birthday. It’s an antiquated statute, never amended or rewritten, and never intended to deal with a case such as this. The killer’s release date has been pushed back and delayed by false accusations of violence, sworn to by various prison guards and attested to by others in order to prevent the fully-grown man who dreams of committing more murders from leaving the penitentiary. The ploy is common knowledge among law enforcement officials and Mulligan is in agreement. Mason however, Mulligan’s pal and the publisher’s son, is actively campaigning for the prisoner’s immediate release on moral, ethical and legal grounds, thus setting in motion an ethical dilemma from which there is no apparent solution. Based upon an actual case history, Providence Rag will keep you involved to the last word on the last page as your sense of moral outrage wrestles with your primal urge to protect those you love. Powerful and timely, this one’s another winner from the Edgar awarded pen of Bruce DeSilva.Like the review? Final Venture: A gripping financial thriller, by Michael Ridpath

Amazon.com Review Michael Ridpath knows how to follow the money, something he did quite successfully in his previous financial thriller, The Market Maker. In Final Venture, his protagonist is Simon Ayot, a likable young British associate at Revere, a venture capital company whose senior managing partner, Frank Cook, is also Simon's father-in-law. Simon has just pulled off a major coup for the firm, so when Frank abruptly denies a life-or-death round of further investment in NetCo, Simon's most promising high-tech client, he's completely surprised. Could it be that Frank believes the rumors floating around that Simon's been having more than business meetings with a woman in the firm? Vowing to dispel the rumors and change Frank's mind about dumping NetCo, Simon goes to the Marshes, Frank's country house, only to find him murdered. The police don't believe Simon's alibi, and soon even Lisa, his wife, is suspicious.

Meanwhile, the firm is still reeling from Frank's death. Its biggest investment in BioOne, a biomedical research firm, is in trouble, and Simon's attempts to get to the bottom of it reveal a corrupt link between Revere, BioOne, and the pharmaceutical company where Lisa is employed, which suddenly becomes a takeover target. Ridpath does a good job of explaining the arcane details of venture capital financing, but makes little of his setting (Boston) and even less of character motivation. In the absence of enough evidence to arrest Simon, it's difficult to believe that Lisa would suddenly turn on her brand-new husband, and her lack of insight concerning her own father's private life seems strange in light of their supposed closeness. The writing is sometimes clumsy, but readers interested in the intricacies of high finance in the venture capital market will find this a good primer on the subject. --Jane Adams

From Publishers Weekly Life has been good for Simon Ayot: he enjoys working for a prominent venture capital firm in Boston and he loves his wife, Lisa. But near the beginning of this lackluster novel, Simon's world begins to crumble. First, his request for added funds for a company he has been championing is rejected by his colleagues. Then he goes to visit Lisa's father only to find him dead. Simon becomes the prime suspect, and soon the police find a pistol that they believe Simon used in the killing. Meanwhile, Lisa moves out and then loses her biotech research position as a result of funding arranged by Simon's employer. Simon manages to hang on to his job but spends most of his time playing sleuth as he tries to clear his name, traveling from Boston to New York to California. Although the behind-the-scenes look at how venture capitalists work is somewhat intriguing, Ridpath's (The Market Maker) plot is alternately predictable and implausible. (Aug.) 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Great Surprise By Paulo Renato Rey It's my first Ridpath's book and it was a worderful surprise. His narrative is easy and very well organized, keeping the reader's attention on the focus of the thriller: Simon's innocence and the mass arround his life after his father in law's murder. The determination on keeping his marriage with his loved, but mistrustfull wife, is an important ingredient in the story. The end is unpredictable but is reasonable. I reccomend this book for those who like a good thriller and for venture capitalists, who will find a intersting reading.

Quite good, yet not his best work yet By Roel van Kessel Having read all Mr. Ridpath's previous books I was quite happy to find a new book of his being published. It was a very good read, I finished it in 3 nights and a short train ride. Once you start it's really hard to put down. The only negative part is that in the end I felt there was no way you could have found the guilty party by yourself. That's the reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.

Amazing By A Customer I finished this book in three days time, most of it on sunday when I reached the second murder I knew I had to read to the end to find out who was causing havoc at Revere, the VC Company at the heart of Michael Ridpath's fourth novel.Only one comment; when is Ridpath's next book being published?

I was a little taken aback when this one ended. It is quite the cliffhanger, but that it leaves you definitely on the edge waiting for the next installment.I don't like reviews that have spoilers in them so I don't write them, but I will say there is some superb saucy buildup.

His only clues are those given to him by an anonymous caller that he’s dubbed Dr. Shadows, and a conspiracy theorist named “Crazy” Blanchard. Bebe is convinced that her husband is having an affair, and it falls onto Savage to prove whether her hunch is true. But the disappearance of a little girl puts all those cases on hold. Savage Fall (Curt Savage Mysteries Book 2), by Ruth Bainbridge

Review "As a start to the series, this is a great story. You really get a great background on the characters and the plot is great and imaginative. ...  I would liken it to The Mentalist. There is the "big crime" that is the underlying of the story, but there are smaller crimes that come up along the way." -- EverLeigh Phelps, A Life Through Books"There wasn't a false note in the book that kept me on the edge of my seat. And I agree that Savage Summer is reminiscent of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." -- Trulia Roberts, Perfect at Midnight "Savage Summer is a quick and fun read. I loved the merry band of characters in this novel. ...  I recommend this book to mystery lovers that enjoy a good laugh." -- D.E. Haggerty of Readalot"A solid Thriller Novel. The premise is unique, which made me excited to read it just from the synopsis. This is one of those stories that will start off with a bang and not let up until the very last page. It really keeps on a great pace throughout.  Ruth Bainbridge has really created an imaginative thriller that has plenty of twists and surprises."  -- My Reading Addiction "Ruth Bainbridge has done a great job of stringing the reader along and leaving them grasping for more. We get a resolution to the smaller issues while still anticipating more from these characters and the overall mystery. I'm definitely excited to see what cases come next and how Ruth ultimately spins the story." -- C. Gonzales, The Indie Express"Wow, this one really delivers in many areas. ...  I was really hooked from the get-go and want so bad to know where things will end up for Curt Savage.  ... everything from the pacing to the depth of characters was superbly executed." -- Bailey Ember, Texas Book Nook

About the Author Born in the idyllic, sleepy town of Ithaca, NY, Ruth Bainbridge has been a lover of mysteries for her entire life. Ever since a child, she has consumed detective stories at regular intervals, becoming enamored with all the superstars of crime. She loved nothing more than to match wits with the likes of Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Thomas Pitt, Lord Peter Wimsey, Richard Jury and Edward X Delaney, becoming inspired by their brilliance. Hoping to emulate her writing idol's achievements in dreaming up such characters, she started composing her own short stories. However, life interfered with her plans of becoming the next hopeful to try a life of crime--on paper at least. Devoting herself to her marriage and the raising of four children, the empty nest syndrome gave her the impetus to return to her first love--murder.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This Series ROCIKS!!!! By Gwen Stevens SAVAGE FALL is the second in THE CURT SAVAGE MYSTERY SERIES. If you love noir, action, sarcasm, and coffee combined into one intriguing witch’s brew, this one’s for you. In fact, you’ll need plenty of caffeine to keep up with this very fast-paced thriller. The story picks up right where SAVAGE SUMMER lets off. Curt Savage leaves California and heads home. He no sooner lands, then Marge, his cranky next-door neighbor, gets him embroiled in a case involving a philandering husband. At least that’s what Bebe Clauson alleges. She’s sure her husband Nigel is cheating with a woman named Mildred, but needs to find out for sure before she kicks him to the curb. I kept hearing Destiny’s Child singing: “To the left, to the left” throughout!I gotta say that Savage is at his sarcastic best in this suspense-thriller. While the name Mildred triggers a whole series of parries and thrusts, the investigation really begins with a visit to the Twisted Cherry Motel. The scene is hilarious, and his confrontation with desk clerk Jerry is classic. It contains some of the best one-liners ever. Lines such as, “There are a few rules in investigations, and one is to never cringe at the person’s appearance that you’re about to pump for info.”Of course, Savage continues to discover more about his murdered fiancée, and what he finds is uber disturbing. The anonymous caller Dr. Shadows is there every step of the way, taunting Savage as he feeds him more clues. Then there’s the introduction of a new love interest. Will Ms. Victoria Marshall be enough to heal Savage’s broken heart? I don’t know, but Ms. Marshmallow is off to a good start. The abduction of Amy Weissman is not forgotten, and let me tell you that the answers uncovered are shocking. Then there’s this unexpected twist that had me shouting. I’m sure my neighbors were wondering what was going on, but I never saw it coming and it’s just one of the many surprises you’ll encounter. In terms of style, there are multiple storylines going on, and I LOVE complex. Not many authors even attempt this feat because of the difficulty involved, but there’s an amazing clarity adhered to in SAVAGE FALL. Nothing gets tangled, lost or dropped. The paranormal that’s sprinkled in makes it all the more intriguing. Let me just state that I was in detective heaven whilst reading this! You know, there was another mystery I went bonkers over. Its name is THE OUTSIDER by Emily Organ. Now SAVAGE FALL and the entire CURT SAVAGE MYSTERY SERIES are dramatically different than Ms. Organ’s work. While THE OUTSIDER is classic English mystery, THE CURT SAVAGE MYSTERIES are pure noir. However, both do have one thing in common and that is playing on the sense of paranoia on how well we know our neighbors. The English have always gotten this aspect of what makes murders so frightening right. It’s why writers such as Agatha Christie, Ruth Rendell, and Caroline Graham are so popular. In films, Alfred Hitchcock had this element as an underpinning for most of his works. And it seems that Ms. Bainbridge also has discovered this key ingredient and uses it to her advantage in creating little masterpieces that keep us on the edge of our seats.I’d also like give kudos to Ms. Bainbridge for the juggling act she performs in brilliantly weaving comedy into such heartfelt tragedy—and without missing a beat. The veering from one extreme to the other only enhances either the frivolity or terror of a scene and adds depth by toying with our emotions. It’s so difficult to do, but with deft hand, she manages to execute it superbly.I highly recommend this book and series. It’s got everything a detective lover could ask for … and more! Just buy it!Great job, Ms. Bainbridge! I can’t wait to start SAVAGE WINTER. As for SAVAGE FALL, I’m giving this awesome entry in the series 5.0 stars because mysteries don’t get better than this!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Part II "Savage Fall" by Ruth Bainbridge more than lives up to the promise of "Savage Summer" By Blaine Carwell Part II in the Curt Savage Series, "Savage Fall" finds Curt more deeply entrenched in his own private "Rabbit Hole"..."Curiouser & curiouser" .In between ominous calls from "Dr. Shadows" & the "Crazy" Aleister ("Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you."}, Curt's personal & professional life is on an upturn...BIGTIME. Add to the mayhem his zany cohorts, AND you have a thoroughly enjoyable read. Ruth Bainbridge has a skilled way of interweaving humor with deadly serious consequences. Would LOVE to be included in his impromptu coffee klatches.Cannot wait for the next in the series, Part III, "Savage Winter".

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Not recommended By Byste This is the second half of the first Curt Savage mystery. If I had to choose one word to describe the characters in this book it would be 'irritating'. The story is complex and intriguing. Savage Fall had a lot of potential had the author not introduced the continuous, over-the-top silliness. The main character is reasonably believable and somewhat sympathetic. The rest of the characters, though, are cardboard. There really isn't anything there to like. It's as if they all forget that there is an abduction of a child, a murder and another potential murder going on. And, for the love of God Ms. Bainbridge, what is with all the coffee?I can say that there are very few proofreading errors. I was going to try to slog through the rest of the book but I just can't stand it. It's like fingernails on a blackboard. Because I really would like to know what happened, I'll just skip to the end to read the last couple of pages.

52 of 56 people found the following review helpful. Koontz enters the realm of horror...and we love it! By DanD Koontz isn't a horror novelist, even though he's been cast in that role. He's called the Master of SUSPENSE, and for a reason: his tales are downright suspenseful (the mold for other novelists) even if they usually don't use the element of horror. But in this collection, Dean Koontz delivers several short stories that contemplate and expertly acheive horror genre greatness. The title story (actually, it's a novel) is about a man who returns home...then is forced to face the demons of his past, who have come back to haunt him. "Kittens," Koontz's first published work of fiction, is about a little girl who decides to get revenge on her parents."The Black Pumpkin," along similar lines, is about a little boy ostracized from his own family. "Miss Atilla the Hun," "We Three," and "The Night of the Storm" are brilliant sci-fi pieces (from Koontz's old days of writing science fiction), while "Trapped" follows a similar vein as Koontz's pinnacle novel "Watchers"."Bruno" is a flat-out hilarious sci-fi farse, while "Hardshell" (the first piece of fiction I read by Koontz) is about a cop hunting down a killer who is a little different. "Snatcher" is a journey into the macabre, while "Twilight of the Dawn" is a moving tale of a man's search for faith and guidance."Strange Highways" is not so strange at all; it's great fiction by a masterful writer. Dean Koontz is without a doubt one of the best writers of all time. That statement may sound a little exaggerated, if you haven't read any of his work. If you read something by him, though, you'll know what I mean. Why not start here, with "Strange Highways"? It's diverse, and it shows you what this man can do--and do well.

By Littlet T Strange highwaysThis is a twisted story about a man that must confront his past and gets a second chance by choosing the highway road he didn't take 20 years earlier. It will take him back to when he was 20 years old and will enter new people to help him along the way. He is able to rewind for a few minutes until he gets it right. It was a very short story. A bit too descriptive for me, I felt like the story dragged. The Black PumpkinI could see this in Tales of the Crypt. You get what you give. Very good story about being good and being evil. The choice is ultimately up to you!Miss Attila the HunA great story that Love does conquer all. I loved the storyline that this teacher was able to protect her children she taught and the town she loved to live in.Down in the DarknessWhat would you do if you came in contact with a door that just appeared everytime someone was being mean to you? Would you use that door to the cellar to your advantage? Would you let the "things" take what you could not stand anymore? When would it end? Loved this one! I wish I had a cellar door like this!SnatcherWhen evil encounters something even eviler than oneself. What happens? Will it survive? This is about a young man who loves to steal and to will steal at any cost. Enter a fragile old woman and her purse. What lays beneath her purse is bound to cure the thief!TrappedTotal Sci-Fi and a bit cartoonish. What happens when the BioLab up the road finds out its inhabitants escaped. Will mankind survive or will they triumph?BrunoWhat a strange character Bruno is. He has hands with power to heal and powers that enable him to mend with ones mind. How much invasion of ones thoughts is too much? Is it worth letting yourself go and giving yourself 100 percent?HardshellI really liked this. Total Sci-Fi feel. A dark creature is on the loose and only one cop - hardshell can apprehend him. What happens with Hardshell comes face to face with this thing??? Very good story!KittensVery short story that goes like this - what goes around comes around. A little girl wants to know why God always takes her cats kittens. The parents respond that its Gods world and up to him. They also have twins and take a liking to them more than this little girl. She hides one night in the barn to find out what happens to the kittens. Absolutely frightening! But the little girl has the last word............The night of the stormWhat happens when man and robot come face to face. Who will be the victor. That is what this story is about. It puts us in the minds of the robots, how they feel, how they live, how they move. How mankind wants to extinguish them. Very good story.

Short Stories By James N Simpson Strange Highways is an immense doorstopper sized collection of short stories by one of the greatest writers of all time. Some of these stories have appeared in other compilation thriller author short story novels so you may have read them before. Most of these were written at least thrity years ago. Like any collection of stories the quality varies across the range as well as the subject matter. Science fiction fans are catered for well here with aliens, genetic engineering gone wrong, an alternative dimensions. Twilight of the Dawn contrasts what the emptiness of life is like without anything to believe in. Fans of serial killers are catered for with Chase although you are likely to have already read this one as a stand alone novel either under the pseudonym K.R. Dwyer or Koontz's own name. The other lengthy story is the title track, Strange Highways. Not one of my favourites but you may like it. My favourites and ones I would rate five stars are The Black Pumpkin, Miss Attila the Hun, Trapped, Kittens (his first ever published work) and Twilight of the Dawn. There is also a commentary by Koontz on how publishers do not encourage short story writing and how hard it is for them to be published which is quite interesting.Whilst not the masterpieces that some of his novels like Mr Murder, Watchers, Intensity, Night Chills and some others are the stories in here are still a great and satisfying read.

Today he's crowned a hero. Tomorrow he'll be fighting for the lives of his loved ones. The time for Mr Nice Guy is over! With the feisty Savannah Jones by his side and new landlord, Richard Windal, offering detective work, Ethan's life seems perfect. But Savannah's first run-in with Windal uncovers his darker side, and it isn't long before the self-proclaimed do-gooder is butting heads with Ethan. A missing person's case throws the detective pairing deep into the belly of an underage sex ring, where life is cheap and the scum of the earth come to party. Savannah's gut senses Windal's dirty hands at work, and she'll risk anything, including her life, to prove it. When Ethan and Windal engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, the true extent of the lunatic's horrific business interests begins to surface. Windal plans to destroy those closest to Ethan's heart to prove his superiority and to bring his nemesis to his knees. Can Ethan save the people he loves and defeat a psychopath dark to the point of hysterical? When Justice and Jones get under Windal's skin, the result is RELENTLESS. Ethan Justice: Relentless is a fast-paced, action-packed, character-driven crime thriller, guaranteed to make you laugh out loud, cringe, cry and cheer. This is the second book in the 'Ethan Justice' private investigator series but it also reads as a stand-alone story. This book contains a few violent scenes, a dash of sex and the odd bit of bad language, so please don't buy it if you are easily offended.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. It keeps getting better By Jody This was a disturbing book in many ways. The first being that Simon Jenner has a sick imagination to come up with gadgets that are ahead of their time, I hope the government doesn't read this book and get any ideas. The next thing that stuck with me is the villain and the crime. I like a book where the lines are clearly drawn as to who is on the good/bad side. We have that in Windal the villain. He may appear to walk on the up and up to those who don't know him well but he immediately comes off as slimey and psycho to me. I did not like him at all and could not wait to see how Justice dealt with him. The most disturbing factor in this book was the "Dark" house where MANY crimes of a sick perverted nature were participated in by officials who tried to keep it covered up. A couple of reasons this disturbs me, one being that I have a daughter and two, while this was a fictional story, I do not doubt for a moment that this kind of stuff is happening every day under our noses.Jenner takes the relationship of Ethan and Savannah to the next level showing they can go through good and bad times but still come out on top. I enjoyed the training that Ethan goes through and would be interested in seeing him go through some more. Jenner also takes Ethan's decision to work for Earthguard to another level by having Johnson have a heart to heart with him forcing Ethan to decide if he is willing to do anything to get the job done. This was a very entertaining book. It does what a second book is supposed to do. It answers questions that you are left with in the first, it opens the characters up to the reader a little more and it leaves you with a few different questions you hope are answered in the third. I don't know what Mr. Jenner's plans are with this series but I hope he knew what he was getting into by introducing these characters to us. He is stuck with them (Ethan, Savannah and Johnson) and us (his readers) for a while to come. This is a great new series that should be getting a lot more attention than it does.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Ethan Justice: Relentless By Lennette Simon. Simon. Simon. Just finished reading both of the Ethan Justice books and I am hooked! When is the next one coming? These are excellent books that start right off the bat with action! Nothing is worse than wading through endless chapters to get to the good stuff. I did not like Ethan's family too much in the beginning, but I see that they do come around somewhat, and I do understand how they feel, having a 25 year old who does not know what she wants to be when she "grows up." These books touched on murder, deceit, the young slave trade catering to high profile clients, blackmail, and humor thrown in for good measure. No doubt about it, excellent books. Thanks for the opportunity to read them.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I Just Had To Know By Island River Scribe This book is not a mystery; it is a thriller. We meet the villain on page 1 and even know his name by the end of the Prologue. We learn quickly that he is a sexual predator, a sexual deviant, a blackmailer and a serial killer. And he hides it all behind a façade that is handsome, wealthy and philanthropic. He controls lawyers, politicians and law enforcement agents by way of their vices and even has the local punk gang under his thumb. We find that the villain is on the ragged edge of his psychosis just at the point that Ethan becomes a public hero for his actions at the end of the first book, Origins. And when he finds that he cannot buy, emotionally subvert or physically subject Ethan to his control, he vows to destroy Ethan. And, to that end, he devotes every fiber of his being. He becomes - RELENTLESS.At this point, I committed the cardinal sin of all mystery/thriller readers - I skipped the middle half of the book and went to the last 5 chapters. I had to know. I just had to know how that degenerate, filthy piece of slime would be defeated. Finally, emotionally exhausted and with a thin-lipped grin of triumph, I returned to the point where I had left off earlier. I then began to absorb the nuts and bolts of how the author progressed Ethan to the point where he determined that if he was to survive, and that if he was to save the lives of the people he loved, he must also become - RELENTLESS.Quite frankly, this author knows how to tell a tale. He knows how to hook the reader and reel that reader into the story, turn-by-turn, until you finally realize that you are hurting each time the protagonists hurt, smiling as they smile and only breathing when they do.This novel is a very well crafted thriller but it is a rough read. This book is not for the faint of heart or for those whose sensibilities are easily affronted by foul language, by graphic violence, by homosexuality or by homophobia. It will get the adrenaline flowing and the mind churning, so consider carefully whether to read this just before bedtime. This novel uses the plotline to speak about several current societal issues and the story plows through four days in time like an express freight train. It doesn't stop; it doesn't slow down; it is, to the end - RELENTLESS.Disclosure - I received a complimentary copy of this book, but that did not affect my opinion of the book.

My version of Stickwork was developed through constant practice, learning, and training since 1977 and includes stealing any good idea that has crossed my path. As a result you will see aspects of many different styles in the style I teach. This is intentional and unapologetic. As far as the mechanics aspect of my style, I use an uneven and traveling grip. There are full definitions in the Definition of Terms section but the simple explanation is an uneven grip is one hand up and one hand down on the stick and a traveling grip means the hands travel or move around the stick through each technique and at times there are two, one, or no hands on the stick. While this may seem unorthodox, it sure is pretty.

The matter-of-fact way the various moves were outlined (steps 1,2,3,etc) made it easy to picture in my mind how my body should be positioned. The charts at the end of the book presented information in a concise way (condensed info.) I am not a 'stick' person, so I can't really attest to how this will all work in practice, but it makes sense to me (which is a good start.)The conversational style of writing made this a good read. Often instructional type books are really boring, so having comments and observations thrown in amongst the 'do this, stand thus' made it easier to stay with it. As with all instructional material, it is my habit to read through quickly once and then revisit to actually perform. This review was written on my first pass. A fifth star may have been added if pictures of the various poses and such were included. Perhaps in the next revision?

"The New Civilization", the first part of eighth book of the Series describes yet another visit by Vladimir Megre to Anastasia and their son, and offers new insights into practical co-operation with Nature, showing in ever greater detail how Anastasia’s lifestyle applies to our lives. Describing how the visions presented in previous volumes have already taken beautiful form in real life and produced massive changes in Russia and beyond, the author discerns the birth of a new civilization. The book also paints a vivid image of America’s radiant future, in which the conflict between the powerful and the helpless, the rich and the poor, the city and the country, can be transcended and thereby lead to transformations in both the individual and society.

The New Civilization (Ringing Cedars of Russia) (Volume 8), by Vladimir Megre

About the Author Vladimir Nikolaevich Megre (born 23 July, 1950 in Kuznichi village, Gorodnyansky District, Chernigov Region in Ukraine), the author of The Ringing Cedars of Russia book series, was a well-known entrepreneur. He spent most of his childhood with his grandmother Efrosinia Verkhusha, a village healer. As a teenager Vladimir occasionally visited Father Feodorit, a priest of the Trinity-Sergiyev Monastery. Later he was shown there the picture «The One and Only» which he described in his second book before the picture was revealed to the world. Vladimir started an independent life early and left the parents' house at the age of 16. Since 1974 he lived in Novosibirsk and worked as a photographer with Novosibirskoblfoto, a service company. At the beginning of Perestroika (reforms of the late 1980s) he was the president of the Inter-Regional Association of Siberian Entrepreneurs. In 1994-5 he organized two large-scale trade expeditions with a fleet of river steamers along the River Ob along the route Novosibirsk -- Salekhard -- Novosibirsk at his own expense. On this trip, an encounter with Anastasia in the Siberian taiga changed his entire life. It had been a secret for a long time for relatives and friends what made him, an entrepreneur with ten years experience, to pledge his property and spend his savings on unprofitable trading trips. The mystery was revealed in his books with Anastasia as the main character. Vladimir Megre brought something really invaluable from the trips. Throughout 1996-2006 nine books were written by Vladimir Megre (The Ringing Cedars of Russia Series: Anastasia, The Ringing Cedars of Russia, The Space of Love, Co-Creation, Who Are We?, Book of Kin, The Energy of Life, The New Civilization, Rites of Love). In 2011 the author became Laureate of Gusi Peace Prize.

The books are devoid of "new-age" lexicon and very understandable to all. At the same time, they reveal all the mysteries of the world, and even beyond... What more does one want ... except to read the next volume?

Great translation By A Customer This translation is great...may even be better than original translation...after reading it I looked up who Susan Downing is and I can see why...I hope she gets to retranslate the 1st 7 kindle books of this series and translate Anasta into English...P.S...If by any chance Amazon and/or Megre reads our reviews I'd like to ask if there's any way of making Russian updated versions available on Kindle in US...same would go for Ukrainian kindle versions if there are any...thank you!

I found it a lovely and easy read but too much of the book was about those criticising the Soviet government and those aposing Anastasia's visions. I bought the book to read more about Anastasia' s view and visions ....not so much critism of it. Thank you.

There's a lot to be said for taking life a little easier, like our sloth friends do.

  • As Mahatma Gandhi once said, ''There is more to life than increasing its speed.''
  • In rest, we find replenishment, and sometimes those leaps of brilliance that come only when we're relaxed and open to them.
  • So, to quote Sylvia Boorstein, ''Dont just do something, sit there.'' And kick back with this little book of quotations from sages of slow, from Shakespeare to Charles M. Schulz, from Aesop to Maya Angelou.
  • Charming illustrations of sloths throughout.
  • Adorable mini book comes with cute 24K gold-plated charm, which may be kept on the ribbon bookmark or worn on a bracelet or necklace.
  • 80-page full-color hardcover mini book with dust jacket.
  • Invitingly priced!
  • Book measures 3-1/4 inches wide by 4 inches high.

Got it as a stocking stuffer for a friend of mine who I have an inside joke with about Sloth's and she loved it. Think it probably fits even better as an adult gift rather than kids.

I feel like it is a good substitute to package with a gift in lieu of giving someone a card. It has an interesting range of people from whom it pulls quotes (e.g. from Ghandi to movie stars) and I provided it as a graduation gift for my niece who I hope remembers to slow down every once in a while.

I gave this to my wife for her birthday because we love sloths, and she has a tendency to get over-stressed at work. This fun little book has great wisdom, fun illustrations, and is a wonderful conversation starter on our coffee table. Would highly recommend for that stressed out sloth-lover in your life.

Review by Philip J. Hughey "Five Stars * * * * * Well written and great ending." Review by Phoebe Stogstill "Five Stars * * * * * This is undoubtedly the best book I have read in the last ten years. It all depends on what you like, and I like Deep-Southy, American Gothic dramas. If you have ever witnessed sanctimonious church pew warmers going at each other like cats fighting in a closet, and sadly some of us have, you will see why this is such a good read. Even if you don't like Deep-Southy, American Gothic yourself, you will probably like this anyway, for the beautiful way it is written. Mr. Caleb Pirtle has always had a way with words. I highly recommend this page-turner." A small town has calmed itself as a peaceful place to live, until one day its smoldering fires of jealousy and selfish greed turn it into a blazing fire. The people. Their anger and anguish boils deep inside their congregation. In a Presbyterian Church, their preacher is no longer looked upon as a god. Filled with sex, bribery and blackmail, the gossip in the town will condemn his soul. A maddening horror grips the lives of the innocent who become as demonic as the Satan they curse in their nightly prayers. The preacher questions his faith, asking if it can rise above the impact from a woman with one little lie.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Some sins are mortal By Kelly Marshall As a fellow writer, I can appreciate a great simile and a description that puts me in the room with a person I just love to hate. From Little Lies by Caleb Pirtle III: “Max Gordon’s brains had been splattered against the bedroom wall, and to Nathan Locke, the wet stain looked oddly enough like a seeping icon whose pleading eyes had been hallowed out by a shotgun blast.” See what I mean? I got the picture and I just bet you will too. Caleb Pirtle is a master at weaving a story with unforgettable characters and an understanding of human nature that gives real depth to his stories.I thoroughly enjoyed Little Lies. The plot moves along at a good clip and kept me engrossed. I know it’s a good book when I’m sleepy at work the next day because I just couldn’t put the book down. Pirtle captured me as a reader. He has several books on the market and I will be ordering all of them.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. It's no lie - excellent entertainment By Christina Carson If Max Gordon hadn't unexpectedly killed himself, the clutch of secrets that seamlessly stitched together the Basilwood Presbyterian Church congregation of Vicksburg, Mississippi would likely never have unraveled. Unfortunately for the Reverend Nathan Locke, a man more shadow than light, and the flock he shepherds, Max Gordon’s death begins exposing lie after lie until the reader realizes how an old, established southern town like Vicksburg, with time on its side, riddled itself with deceits. As the story twists and turns with the feel of a mystery, it also digs deeper into the lives of a curious mix of people, their sordid doings, their lecherous fantasies and their outright treacheries.Writing has been author Pirtle’s life. Educated as a journalist, serving as a reporter, then Southern Living’s travel editor, Pirtle, born and raised in Texas, traveled the Deep South coming to know and enjoy its physical beauty and the idiosyncrasies of the people he met. He has captured both in LITTLE LIES. His phrases linger: “He slipped behind the wheel of his Cadillac as a faint glimmer of lightning cut a tattered seam in the thunderhead that had, at least for the time being, blotted out the sun.” Or, “She was standing beside the front door of the antebellum home, waiting, watching while Susan Heatherly, her face aglow, her smile radiate, paraded up the sidewalk like a high school majorette in search of a band.”Sometimes you’ll be laughing, sometimes shaking your head, but what you won’t be is privy to the lie you least expect until you reach the end. Caleb Pirtle knows how to write a story. To those who know and love his work, that’s no secret and no lie.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Hold tight - the rollercoaster is about to start By Alicia Butcher Ehrhardt Mr. Pirtle MUST know these people - there is no way he could make all this up. Here's the Reverend Locke on the singer in his church: "Nathan Locke could picture the scene behind him without bothering to turn around. John’s head would be thrown back, his round face sweating, his hands clasped tightly together, and his eyes closed in meditation. He was singing How Great Thou Art, but Locke surmised that the young choir director’s mind was on neither God nor Max Gordon. Hell, John Madison was singing about himself."I KNOW a church singer like that. And the portraits of the other characters in this drama are drawn with great and precise detail - townspeople, ladies of the night, bankers - all put together and roiled in a cauldron of small town America. You meet people, get enough of their story to fit them into the larger canvas, and move on, collecting the cast of characters for this drama which keeps you wondering until the very last page: who will win? And what exactly does that mean for this congregation?

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Not what I expected By silverlining This is not a handbook for learning the language. It gives some background on Japanese customs, generalities about the language, and only a handful of useful phrases. To learn to speak and understand rudimentary Japanese, I will have to purchase another book or program.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Helpful Guide for Learning a Hard Language! By Greg O. This guide was really simple and helpful for a language that is naturally hard to learn. So many great tools in this guide from common greetings to actually being fluent in a conversation the book goes thru it all. I have tried other guides that were too complicated to understand when learning Japanese. This book spoke to like I was a kid trying to learn the language, and it gives you really effective exercises that help you retain the information. I love that it helps you be able to write in Japanese which just adds even more value to the book in my opinion.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I don't know what to put here, so pizza! By Pickagal I give it five stars, even though I already knew a few things from the book by watching anime, it taught me tons of new things about the language. A little grammar here, some vocabulary there, it was simple and straight forward. I would recommend you read it because Japan is one of the leading manufacturers of the world, and the fact that you can speak Japanese looks great on a resume. Also recommended if you're stuck in a rut, gives you something to do, right?
