6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Enjoyable read that will keep you guessing By S. Flanagan This is a tongue in cheek mystery full of twists and turns as Caro tries to find a killer. Caro is not your average sleuth, rather a British transplant and her long suffering but very supportive husband. The novel is written in a very understated way so that her emotions never control Caro's actions. Rather she rationalizes all of her actions and all her clues very methodically.This is a fun mystery that is an easy read. I will look forward to the next book by Dane McCaslin.

GRAB SOME COFFEE AND CRUMB CAKE AND SETTLE DOWN TO A GRAND READ By Ellen Hardin new fun cozy mystery series-- that takes place in seneca meadows ny even though the main characters caro layton browning who is a mystery writer and her husband greg who is a law professor are from england--- SO the story starts with caro taking her dog for a walk in the rain- she literally stumbles across a body-- later that night caro and her husband greg hear a strange sound next door- when the police arrive they find her neighbor is also dead- then later that day she finds out the mayors daughter is missing - pretty soon caro is trying to figure out just what is going on in her little town- as she finds out her neighbors have all sorts of secrets that they want to remain hidden -she starts questioning everyone she comes across - can she figure out who done it and why before the murderer decides she knows to much? i enjoyed the spark between caro and her husband- i also enjoyed the snark that our ex pat lets out sometimes instead instead of the british charm everyone is expecting- another reason i liked this book is i did not know who the murderer was until almost the end- so if you like your main characters to be headstrong- witty and a little sarcastic as well as intelligent i think this might be a book for you - i am looking forward to learning more about caro and her husband and her quirky neighbors -------- i was given a free advance copy in exchange for a review,-but this did not influence me in any way

Caro, a mystery writer, and Gregory, a college professor, are British ex-pats living in New York in a small town populated with an extremely high quotient of fruitcakes. But that makes for a fun ride as well as several unexpected turns of events as the brilliant but headstrong Caro dives into the shallow end of a murder investigation but soon find herself treading water in the deep end with bodies afloat all around her. Hubby Gregory tries to throw her a lifeline, but she just pulls him in after her. It's the chemistry and by-play between Caro and Gregory that kept me turning the pages. Wry and sarcastic, still affectionate, it's the hot cocoa and cookies comfort of a long-wed couple who are still crazy about each other and have that oh-la-la spark between them. Not only is the relationship well done, so is the mystery, which moves quickly from one suspicious town resident to the next. Oh, and if you like coffee and crumb cake...this is the book for you. :-)

Excellent second book in the Van Laven Chronicles By michael naylor I read the first book in the Van Laven Chronicles series Throne of Novoxos a few months ago and it was brilliant. Naturally after enjoying he first book so much I purchased the sequel as soon as it was available. If you have not read the first book I highly recommend doing so before reading this one as it will introduce you to the 2 main characters Comron and Vaush and is a very enjoyable story.Shadow Reign had a lot to live up too after a brilliant first book and I had high expectations for it. My expectations were not only met but exceeded in many ways. The book continues the story of Comron and Vaush. If you have read the first book then you will have some indication of what the big threats in this book are before going in. I won't spoil any of it but the first book set the scene for what happens here pretty well and Vaush was warned about the future threats.Comron still has issues with his father and breaking free from his grasp and I was glad this got some focus in the sequel as his father is an excellent character and their unique bond is very interesting and important to Comron's character arc. Vaush has probably a bigger arc in this book as she goes from a kind of royal/noble in the last book to becoming Empress in this one and leading her people against a new threat that is bigger than anything she or her predecessors has faced.Overall this is an excellent second book in the Van Laven Chronicles. This is shaping up to be a fantastic series and there are still so many possibilities for the author to explore in future books. Tyler Chase has created a unique and diverse universe​ and I for one cannot wait to find out what happens next.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A Spectacular Turn in the Van Laven Chronicles By D Roberts What’s not to love about the Van Laven Chronicles. The author has another amazing and vibrant journey at hand with Shadow Reign. Van Laven is a big universe and a lot of that comes to light in the first volume, but Tyler Chase is at her best moving everything at a feverish pace with just the right amount of description that keeps it interesting and understandable without becoming bogged down with space jargon. We also get to spend a lot more time with Comron and Vaush as they both are really just starting to come into themselves and each other. I was surprised​ by some of Vaush’s choices, but as Shadow Reign winds down I started to catch on and really love her direction and strength, a strength that has been there from the beginning but gets a chance to blossom here. A lot of surprises and directions I didn’t see coming, this chronicle truly lives up to its name.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Awesome 2nd book in series By TFLReader I read the first book in the "Van Laven Chronicles" series last fall and fell in love with it. The forbidden love and reluctant alliance between Lord Comron Van Laven and Lady Vaush was a great way to put tension into the struggle for an empire. Vaush and Comron are still together in this next installment and I haven't been disappointed yet. The story picks back up with a bang as Vaush has succeeded in becoming empress but things are not to be peaceful for them. This was an amazing story, full of action, suspense, romance and so much more. This is an awesome series.

About the Author Award-winning author R.C. Goodwin opens a window onto the realities of life "beyond the walls" both for those who are "doing time" and those whose livelihood is earned there. In a style that is compelling he tells the stories of both groups. The book offers insights that few are privy to, but many can gain from. And despite the gravity of the milieu the author moves us along smoothly, and not without splashes of humor. This book should be mandatory reading for anyone contemplating a career in corrections.

It's not your typical or predictable "yawn" on convicted felons or death row inmates, so forget trying to determine how things will go. Goodwin's character development is as thrilling as it is disturbing. You'll be drawn into this one for sure.

Dr. Goodwin gets us into the minds of condemned prisoners, guards, fellow inmates and all who have to deal with them, exposing frustrations and motivation for some acts that are so brutal and mean-spirited that it is difficult for most of us to understand them. I would recommend the book to lovers of fiction and non-fiction alike.

By Dan Sex is one of the basic needs of man and regardless of age or how long have you been together with your partner, the burning desire for sex should not be taken for granted. I must say that the author did a good job on describing the top eleven most arousing sex positions from Tantra, Kama Sutra, and Tao, though, I would have appreciated it if there were pictures or illustrations included. Nevertheless, it provides a step by step guide on how to do each sex position by which the readers can simply understand and follow.

I expected this to contain a collection of sex positions, crude images and those overrated erotic descriptions as in some fiction books. The positions here are actually explained in a much more detail, not how to stay in that position, but what you gain ‘spiritually’ with your partner and how you feel physically. It’s hard for me to explain, but this is a really good book. Don’t expect crude images and descriptions here or how to gain just pleasure from this act, but expect to see sex as a more spiritual deed! The positions are described, combined with spirituality, energy (jing chi – sexual energy), health and man and woman!There is more than just sex and erotica here! This book gives meaning to this act and also a spiritual purpose. For those who view sex as a crude act and also for those who view it as a fun pass time, you’ll find a greater meaning for ‘sex’ here.

It's better than I expected from the cover. Well written and informative. Some of the positions are pretty run of the mill, but there are some that I honestly had not thought of. A great way to things spice up and give your woman a special surprise. Some of the names of the positions are pretty funny, but the descriptions are good, and without pictures that is important... I loved it... pun intended :-)

It is set in the now, the characters are well described, the story line easy to follow and once you start reading you will not stop unless there is a fire or another emergency. The heroine wishes to become a detective but finds it tough to get along in a man’s world. Her life has not been easy but she overcomes her past and finds herself absorbed into a strange case involving cloning. Enough said as any more would spoil the story. There are a few typos but they did not jump out at me.

Nice debut with a suspenseful story By Amazon Customer The premise of this book draws you in immediately...the heroine's uncle, an old man, has been arrested for a murder of a man he never knew and says he didn't kill, all because of DNA evidence. Great hook! The book weaves through the life of the heroine, a Boston cop trying to make detective, and the intricacies of the investigation that twists through relentless research, interviews, thinking outside the box, and a surprising twist that had me nodding my head as the plot unfolded. I don't want to give anything away, but the book had me flipping the pages quickly to get through to the end. I really hope there's a second book to answer some of the unanswered questions. Nice debut and would definitely pick up the author's next work.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Flawlessly Exhilarating By Hillary Sanity's Flaw is a captivating thriller; a modern day Silence of the Lambs in my opinion. Set in the vivid city of New York, while the book focuses on Detective Procyk, who is thrown into a random case of gruesome murders. The killer, who is actually the narrator of this book, trusts he was saving the lives of his victims rather than taking them. As he goes on to explain this in his written testament it seems that these young women may not have been the marks all along. One killer's sins against one detective's "virtues;" both are brought to light in this page turner. I had to rate this 4 stars only because the dialogue is tricky; already written for the big screen the conversation leads to desired visual images. I feel great things are just beginning for this up and coming author. I will stay tuned and I'm looking forward to his next book, The Nobodies.

Telling it from the killer's point of view definitely made the book more interesting than a random 3rd person omnipotent POV.My only problem with this book is the dialogue- it was extremely difficult to follow. Sometimes I didn't know scenes had changed, when people entered or exited a conversation, or who people were talking to because there was little description of where things were happening or what was going on. This is because of the emphasis on pure dialogue and not on developing the area or situation. (In fact, the whole book read more like a play than an actual book).That said, once you can get over this part (which does improve as the book goes on), you will like the book. I'm sure the author will develop his skills as time goes on- I look forward to reading his next book.

I'm one of those people who can't stop themselves from guessing what happens next, and am usually correct. I had thought I had this book figured out and knew what the plot twist would be, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that author was more creative than I gave him credit for. This book has the right mix of suspense, humorous dialogue, and intriguing personalities to keep you on the hook. At first, it took a bit to get used to the writing style as I am used to more description and less dialogue, but grew to appreciate that I could visualize scenes and characters in my own way. My favorite parts of the book where the point of view shifts when the killer is speaking.I will definitely keep my eye out for future work!

Poor Sabato and all he goes through. If you are just getting into the Steel family, make sure you read the main stories, Abe, Dominic, EROE, and then Sabato. If not, you'll get great stories, but the flow will be so much better when read in order.

We see the beginnings of a little boy who knows to much tragedy from a young age and how it has so defined his life.We see Sabato through the years of his life and how young love comes into his life hoping to finally make it better but their always in the shadows his father and how his influences have made him into the man he is today.This novella totally has you drawn to him right from page one and will bring you right to edge but all you will be saying is bring me the rest of his story

Fields is able to convey in her words is unbelievable. The hurt, anger, guilt & shame - not to mention the lust & love are so real you feel as though you're witnessing it first-hand. Sabato has won my heart through his pain and suffering & just wanting to be loved. M.J. Field set the ending up so perfectly that while you'd like to say you'd didn't see that coming; hindsight being 20/20, you kind of did, but you're so distracted by the confessions of the heart that you're blinded to the reality of life.

Concise & informative guide to healing your gut By Susan Schenck Millions of people just in the USA alone suffer from some form of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), and many if not most of these people don't even know it. If you suffer from chronic gas, bloating, constipation, and/or diarrhea, this book is for you. Almost all of us will have this at some point in our lives due to the SAD (standard American diet) way we eat!I found this book very concise and yet informative even though I already knew a lot of the information. It discusses IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and SIBO (small intestine bacteria overgrowth) as well as the causes, symptoms, risk factors and treatments.What I like is that the author mostly discusses NATURAL treatments, which ALWAYS and in ALL WAYS leave the person healthier. You do NOT want to have a colonectomy and run around with a bag filled with your excrement, do you? I knew of a woman who did that, and after the bag broke while she was ballroom dancing, she was so humiliated that she committed suicide!The biggest factor and treatment for the digestive tract is diet, of course! The author discusses the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) and Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diet (GAPS diet), as well as the Paleo diet and FODMAP diet.The book includes bullet points as well as tables, including a list of common vegetables and fruits in the order of preference for this issue.As a health and nutrition author myself, I noted a couple of things I disagreed with. On page 58 she puts seeds on the OK list, but those can be really bad for SIBO and IBS. Also she says that aspartame isn’t a bad idea to use as a sweetener. Though it may be OK for the digestive tract, it really destroys the nervous system and can lead to symptoms such as those found in MS and ALS, as well as epilepsy. I would have liked to have had her discuss sugar alcohols like xylitol and erythritol, and how they feed the bad bacteria in SIBO. It was chewing gum with xylitol that truly messed up my perfectly healthy colon!I would also have loved to have heard more about the author and what inspired her to write this book. It seems obvious that she went on this healing journey herself, and I would have liked to have heard her story.Nonetheless, I recommend this book as it is very concise and informative for anyone who wants a quick overview.Susan Schenck, award-winning author of The Live Food Factor and several other books

Worth waiting for By Aus cosy fan After reading this 4th instalment in the Dakota Mystery series I reread the other books so I could write this review. I really enjoy the writing of M.K.Coker particularly the way the feelings of time and place are conveyed and the ability of the author to create a different mood for each of the novels. All deal with the town of Reunion in Eda County, South Dakota and the fractured family life of the Okerlunds who have been policing the county for generations.The books are all grounded in a mystery but we also see the way that Karen and her half uncle Marek have come to depend upon each other and appreciate their shared history. Each of the mysteries has almost a theme - this one is adoption - and that to some may feel forced but I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of the various characters and their responses. Dead Quiet seemed to be a more gentle storytelling than the other books - full of rebirths and reunions which is very appropriate as it is set in Spring. In this story we find out more about Karen's late mother Hannah and her own family story. It is tied into a Anabaptist religious community which shunned Hannah because of her thirst for justice. At the end of this book both Marek and Karen seem ready to explore new relationships and to me this is the strength of this series. I really feel that I have spent time with real people - flawed and imperfect though they are.I hope there is at least one more visit to Reunion left. I would recommend that any one interested in reading this book start at the beginning of the series - it will really reward your time.

I have read her previous books too, and this one grabbed me from the start. I won't try to offer a synopsis other than this story line also is set in South Dakota with a female sheriff trying to solve a murder in an Amish-like community. I enjoyed it start to finish and am curious about some of the sheriff's personal history that will surely be revealed in future books. Can't wait for the next one! Keep writing them, M.K. Coker!

By Edwina Leach A very good book. I started with the first in the series and can't possibly miss one now. The writing is good. Readers feel as if they know each person in the series well enough to call and check on them if they missed a day at work. I especially like the way the early lives of the main characters are explained in each of the books, to the point that each book would stand alone if the reader missed any one of the series. Each of the main characters has deep-rooted problems that stem from their childhood, but then don't we all? I like that they have each come to the point in their lives that they "come back home" to their family, and in spite of old wounds they continue to come through and assist family members when they need them -- and they love them in spite of things said and done in the past. The "Dead Quiet" deals with several religious issues in a non-preachy way, which I liked. And, I especially like the latest developments on parents and newborns separated at birth due to adoption searching and finding each other. ("YOU'RE my mother?!!!") A good stand-alone book but best if you read the series, starting with book number one.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Fun, quick read! By Amazon Customer I love finding new authors through authors I already enjoy, and this is no exception. Garth Perry and J.A. Konrath have put together an awesome short story here, bringing cynical LT. Jack Daniels in on a case with psychic investigator, AJ Rakowski. The story is fast paced and funny, even though it deals with some pretty dark subject matter (kidnapping is just the beginning of the crazy in this one). I would absolutely recommend this for anyone who enjoys mystery/thrillers.

AJ Rakowski is a psychic hoping to get some work helping the police solve crimes, and her first one is a doozy. This is not usually a genre I read too much, but I enjoyed this story a lot.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This is BYOB, book you oughta buy! By Michael Sova A few months ago, I published a rather glowing review of Try Darkness by James Scott Bell. I categorized the book as "outstanding," and discussed my eagerness to read either the next or previous book in the series. Try Darkness, I didn't realize until I'd started, is the middle book in a trilogy, with Try Dying and Try Fear being the other two. I learned that attorney Ty Buchanan lost the love of his life and was subsequently charged with murder. He cleared his name but ended up a changed man, serving the downtrodden while living in a trailer at St. Monica's Monastery where he developed a friendship, a professional relationship and something… more with Sister Mary Veritas, one of the resident nuns. I really wanted to be able to fill in the rest of Ty's background. In the end, though, I'm evidently a sucker for a love story. After much deliberation, I chose to step forward. I'll take two steps back later. Try Fear opens with Ty Buchanan being retained to defend a known drunk charged with DUI. The case seems hopeless but Ty pulls a legal rabbit out of his hat and wins. Soon after, the man he cleared is found dead. It looks like a suicide until the man's own brother is arrested for murder. It appears to be a setup and Buchanan is determined to get him off. He just needs to find a way to deal with corrupt politicians, a street preacher and his muscle, and witnesses who know a lot more than they're willing to say. Meanwhile, Sister Mary has been receiving strange emails, each more disturbing and more threatening than the last. She's struggling with that as well as seriously questioning her own spirituality. I'd really like to say more but I don't want to give too much away. I referred to Try Darkness as "the best book I've read in quite some time." Try Fear is hands down one of the best books I've read since then. Bell creates characters you can and will fall in love with. There are also those you'll willingly loath. The dialogue is masterful. The humor is frequent and effortless. The story is well crafted, well written and beautifully told. I truly envy Bells gift for language and metaphor. Next to him, my own prose are as awkward and clumsy as a… uh… There. You see what I mean? Try Fear is BYOB, book you oughta buy

By Bill Garrison TRY FEAR is James Scott Bell's third novel to feature lawyer Ty Buchannon and his basketball playing nun friend Sister Mary. This is a fun, character driven suspense series and this novel is the best in the series. You don't have to, but you should really read the first two books before you try this one.Ty is still practicing law out of a coffee shop when he is asked to represent Carl Richess on a drunk driving complete. He does so, and gets Carl off, and also meets the beautiful DA Kimberly Pincus. The head nun is out to get Sister Mary, and apparently so is a stalker. She is getting threatening emails from an unknown source. When Carl is murdered and his brother is arrested for the crime, Ty decides to represent Eric. Sister Mary is with him every step of the way as they investigate what could have possibly happened to Carl.While the plot delves into roadside kook religions, city politics and the Holllywood night life, the plot is really secondary. The strength of this novel is the characters. You can tell it is a character driven novel when Carl's murder doesn't happen until page 50. Bell keeps the pages turning with short chapters full of witty dialogue and lots of internal conflict. Ty is torn between his feelings for Sister Mary and his respect for her choice to be a none. His life also receives a breath of fresh air in Kimberly Pincus, who is captivated by his charms.Bell, who up until the Ty Buchannon series, has written novels for the Inspirational market, really doesn't change much with this book. With Sister Mary and Father Bob, there is plenty of religious discussion. This is a good, clean book, with no bad language, sex or excessive violence. There are plenty of twists, and Bell's background as a trial lawyer really comes through in the trial of Eric Richess.In a book driven by witty dialogue, some readers might be turned off by all the one liners. If a few bits of dialogue fail, then it'll really make the book drag. The religious discussions are more amusing than preachy, and I don't think they'll offend even the most agnostic readers.This is the best book of the series. It brings the characters full circle. It'll be fun to see where the series goes from here or if this book is the fnal chapter in Ty and Sister Mary's life.

Despite the gruesome nature everything about this novel exuded class. I think this may well be Debra Webb's best novel to date. There was a family theme which was uplifting to read. The revenge-bent villains were quite understandable and different to the horrific and sickening Eric Spears of the Faces of Evil series making it much more enjoyable to read.Debra Webb is at the top of her game and having read almost all of her novels I think this one is her best to date... (Although my favourite character is still the Deaf Detective femme fatale for serial killers...)

Deputy Chief Jessie Harris Burnette, now married to her high school sweetheart Dan, has a new killer in town. The town’s distiniguished men with money and power seem to be the target. What do these men have in common besides money and power that they have kept secret for so long? Not only is a murderer loose in the town but one of Jessie’s friends has something on her mind lately.This was such a good book and I enjoyed it so much that I read it twice. There is a reason Debra Webb is one of my favorite authors. She writes great romantic suspense books!

I love everything about the day and month leading up to it. We generally begin decorating our house and yard at the end of September and leave everything up until the first weekend of November. As kids, we began planning our costumes for the next Halloween as soon as we got back from Trick or Treating (while sorting through our loot!). This book doesn't take me BACK to my childhood because my love of Halloween has never stopped.The coloring book enhances my love of everything Halloween. I love every drawing and because I bought the Kindle version, I was able to download a PDF copy and can print off my most favorite pages to color (which is difficult to choose) as well as share with my nephews, adult children and friends. In fact, some of my friends come over and we have Coloring Book night!These pages are masterfully drawn and with the use of my trust Gel Pens and colored Pencils, bring each page to life. It seems that the more I color, I build more confidence and have begun to trust my judgement with colors and shading. This is FUN!! AND the pictures look GOOD!!Thank you for offering these book-Coloring is NOT just for kids any more.. They really do HELP with managing stress.
