A Sense of Duty: A Former Navy SEAL Falls In Love and Begins a New Journey By Bookzilla This book bounces between The two lead characters, Lara and Ben. The writing is stilted, the characters background is not realistic. Lara's background does not make sense. When she was 13, she was brutally raped and beaten by another juvenile. Because he was a juvenile, he was not punished and allowed to return to school? Lara would see him at school and he would threaten her. He would threaten her at her place of work. Counselors she saw did not help. She murdered him a few years later and was never charged.Studly, multi-millionaire war-hero with PTSD Ben is looking for a woman to share his life with. First he needs to get divorced and custody of his son.Ben asks Lara to help him decorate his new office:And I need to give you some money to get started, he said. He reached into his pocket and peeled off twenty thousand dollars in cash.Is the author aware of how large this bundle of cash would be? Doesn't make sense to carry large sums of cash like that.There are other things happening in the story that do not make sense.I may finish this book.Remember this is my personal opinion and does not reflect on the author.

A powerful, unusual thriller/romance, unlike any I've ever read By Jim Roberts A highly compelling book, I found A Sense of Duty to be quite unlike other books in its genre. It opens rather slowly and deliberately, building character and unfolding layer by layer. I found I identified more with Ben, the ex-Navy SEAL who pursues a relationship with the young and extremely vulnerable (but emotionally closed) Lara. One thing that did jump out at me about the book was the prose; smoothly written and well constructed, not getting in the way of the unfolding tension and romantic elements. The book also asks us to question the ethicality of it's main character, in Lara dealing with an extremely dark event that effects many of the decisions she makes.With a strong sense of location, character and tension, this is a truly unique and highly enjoyable book. Check it out for yourselves!

Beautiful Love Story, morally and Physically Tough Lovers By Pencil Pusher You know when you've met a really beautiful girl when she's not your type, not your look, and you still can't take your eyes off of her. I suppose it's the same for you gals and the men you look at. Well, that was one of my first responses to this book. I knew I might be getting into a romance novel that was more for women than men. I was partly correct and partly wrong. It is a little more of that type than men of my generation might normally pick up; however, younger men may like to read more stories that deal deeply with love relationships. Our minds have been opened up in that way after many great miniseries and movies, even those of my generation have. Perhaps chick flicks have evolved to where they are no longer just for chicks. But this book . . . for me personally? Well, I was pleasantly surprised.This was a story of deep caring and love that is of the type that the world may be lacking. This was a clean enough book so that the audience can be broad, while it tiptoes on the edge of sensual behavior in a loving and wholesome way. These are good people with morals, in spite of the fact that they may have a flaw or two and a skeleton or two. It is a story that reveals the truth about us: that good people can be flawed. I might even (with much care) use this with a mature youth group or religious group. Particularly inspiring were the risks that key characters took to help others, even though that action could mean that the relationship they sought might escape them.On another level there was action, threats, danger, and suspense. Many things were low key enough and underplayed so as to be real-life believable. I respected that because that is the way that I write my novels. I would not have it any other way. I don't think Ava Armstrong would either. This book kept you on the proverbial edge of your seat, but in a logical and believable way. There was no Hollywood style exaggeration here.One or two reviewers pointed out what they perceived to be flaws; but as a novelist myself, I just did not see it their way. Some seemed to have a wrong understanding of fictional writing.The book was also well researched, so much so that I incorrectly thought it was semi-autobiographical. Details of architectural design, flowers, New England houses, and neighborhoods kept the reality of what I read right there all of the time. Details about the characters did as well. The information about the terrorist risk in our fair land sent a few shivers up the back; because, if the author's thoughts are accurate, we're in deep poop folks. Mrs. Armstrong is a patriot; it just comes through her writing. She has learned a lot about the military and the Seals.I identified in a small way with Mrs. Armstrong's work. The women in her books are strong. Though attractive and feminine, they can take care of themselves, enabling me to relate to this author who is so different from myself. Different in every way except respect for what is good and for our country, two disparate authors write strong women into our books . . . because historically this country was built by both men and women of strong moral fiber and work ethic. Ava Armstrong has tapped into that and made it sexy, acceptably morally sexy. Key perhaps is the fact that she shows that women can be feminine women and still independent, strong ones as well. The feminists have always had it wrong, and real women and men have always known that.

Smudged, duplicated ink on back to back pages makes for un-fun coloring By Geekjello The designs in this book are fairly simple when compared with other adult-style coloring books on the market, but it does make them quite quick to color. The quick coloring style of these pictures is nice for a day when you need an affirmation and some relaxation. The paper quality and image quality on this book is quite good, very happy there. Where this book falls short is the double sided printing and poor ink quality. There were quite a few pictures right in the middle of the book where the ink from one page was transferred on to the opposing page, causing the images to be distorted in some cases or just sort of messy. I included a couple pictures of this problem with this review. At the current price ($11), I feel like the printing quality should be better than this.

Pleasant magazine By Jacqueline Garlans As a tangler who has taken several classes, I will have to admit I didn't find all that much new in this magazine, but the contents were nicely presented and there were some fun projects. I am going to buy at least one more copy before I make the decision to subscribe as I want to see if it treads new ground.

From the Author I have loved the ghost/horror stories of M R James since childhood. They have a wonderfully 'old England' feel to them: a world of quiet bookishness in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The protagonists explore libraries in country houses or go on solitary holidays, only for the calm to be shattered by awful events or discoveries. M R James was a medieval historian (provost of King's College, Cambridge and then Eton College) and his research and life in those ancient settings give his spooky tales a unique and calm antiquarian feel, quite at odds with the terrible things which then happen. They are timeless tales that I have read again and again, so it seemed like a fun idea to try and recreate his extraordinary world of gentility and terror.

About the Author Dominic Selwood is the best-selling author of the crypto-thriller The Sword of Moses (voted one of the top five religious thrillers of all time by BestThrillers.com). It’s subtle, but darkly atmospheric By Shari Sakurai *I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review*The Voivod is a really creepy tale that leaves you with goosebumps after the final page. It’s a short story written in a Victorian style that Selwood captures perfectly. It’s subtle, but darkly atmospheric and the final twist at the end is unexpected. Cleverly built up this is a great read and I look forward to reading more like this from Dominic Selwood.

Now I may or may not post spoilers, so read on at your own risk.Now, this book was very fast paced, and well written. I enjoyed the book as it went from a law office to the woods and back again into the city in a nice flow. No major gaps, no getting distracted. I love this writers style of not only writing the hot scenes... but the chemistry she is able to impart to you with her words as you read her books.The nice thing is all the twists and turns of this wonderfully fasted paced book. There is no grammar errors or spelling ones either. This is a nice strong interesting story that you will not put down till you have finished reading it!!

About the Author Wally Avett is retired from a sales career --- newspaper and billboard advertising, mobile homes, real estate---in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. The history is well examined with a specific aspect of civil war history that is not generally written about. The dialog is very factual and realistic. This book was given to be as a gift and I went out and bought the rest of Avett's works (Last Bigfoot in Dixie, Murder in Caney Fork.) It is based on a real-life incident that I was not aware of. Thus makes it ten-times better then a simple work of fiction. I am always delighted when I find an author I enjoy! We really recommend this book!

Rebel Bushwhacker grabbed me from the get-go simply because no one writes about what happened to the rural folks after the war. Right after Appomattox, during reconstruction, people would not let go of the hatred; starvation, looting, etc. were rampant. Heck, to this day conversations include â€˜Rebelsâ€™ and â€˜Yankees;â€™ it seems it will always be. Hattie June Rose is a spitfire who devises a plan, using all her womanly wiles, to do what has to be done. She pays the price in more ways than one, but her determination to see it through takes you on one adventure after another in blood, sweat and lots of tears.Wally Avett is a grand storyteller. I've always know but I never knew which herbs I should be using or how to fully utilize them. The author has done a great job explaining and highlighting the benefits of herbs to our body. Very interesting to have read the on-going diary of the events that lead to the death of Edmond Safra by Dominick Dunne in Vanity Fair. Empress Bianca, as fiction or non-fiction as the case may well be, is the more or less complete story as presented by Lady Colin Campbell. It is well written and entertaining. As Lily Safra went to great lengths to have this book pulped, it may be difficult to find. I found my copy through an obscure English bookseller.. good luck in finding one.. it is worth the effort.

By Buck Winthrop With all that has been written about Lily Safre and the scandal this book caused in international society I searched high and low for a copy of the original book. When that failed I read this version which did not disappoint. I was immediately sucked into the tale of the ambitious woman believeing very much that it was the spiiting image of Lily Safre. The writing is very good for a book like this with plenty of details and background. Quite franly I did not want it to end and wish the author would do a follow up. Fun. Fun. Fun.

IMPORTANT - This is NOT the same book that was pulped By Natasha Wannabe Just a note for those considering purchasing this edition: you are not buying the same book as that pulped by its original publisher, Arcadia Books (UK), in 2005 following a suit instituted by Lily Safra against the publisher claiming the book defamed her. There are apparently 17 changes (unspecified) in the text. If you want the original, you must be prepared to pay $600 or more as there are a few volumes still circulating on the used book market (volumes sold prior to the pulp order).Here's the relevant news clip from the NY Post:January 3, 2008 -- LILY Safra will be displeased to learn that "Empress Bianca," the roman-a-clef by Lady Colin Campbell, is being published soon in the US. This is the novel Safra's lawyers forced its British publisher to remove from stores and destroy because its protaganist, whose rich husbands keep dying, was too similar to herself. There will be 17 changes in the book, according to lawyer Michael J. Griffith, a friend of Campbell who represented the convicted Ted Maher in connection with the death of Lily's husband, multi-billionaire Edmond Safra. Maher's trial has been termed a "fix." Griffith told friends at DaTommaso restaurant that Campbell informed him she'll come to New York soon for a book party thrown by publisher Dynasty Press.

By Srinivas Kasturi Vish Dhamija's second book improves upon the pace and expectations set by the first. Despite living and working in the first world, Vish's approach to crime fiction - setting his stories in the steamy underbelly of the third world, but with enough global appeal in the vast canvas that the story stretches across - is a breath of fresh air. We're not looking at white collar crime. We're not looking at rehashes of true crime stories from TV. We are looking at something truly original in approach, content and treatment, and this book is the latest evidence. I really enjoyed reading this book, and have recommended it to all my friends. There are more twists and turns in this book than in a Dharavi gali. Without spoiling it for you, all I can say is, if you are considering a good read that you will want to read in one sitting, rather than even eat, drink or sleep, this is the one for you.

IN A CLASS OF ITS OWN By Ankur I bought Bhendi Bazaar thinking it was another one of many crime thrillers that are laced with unwarranted love stories to give them a filmy touch, but this book is totally different.Of course there’s some romance in the story but that is one of the side story rather than taking the focus away from the main narrative.Remarkable characters — specially the protagonist Rita Ferreira, a complex plot with numerous twists, irony and humour, exhilaration, and unique imagery. A genuine “noir”.In a class of its own.

The story flows without interruption even though the investigation halts every now and then for flashback scenes, which actually enhance the flavour. Kudos to the author for doing super job by taking readers through historical events that happened around the time to give a realistic background to flashbacks.No part of the novel is a drag.Strongly recommended to anyone who wants to read a world class Indian thriller.

Although I have to say it is better than some I have recently read. I thought that Vivian was a good character if a little scatter brained for a witch. I would have expected her to be more worldly than she was portrayed.I found the information about witches and shifters not mixing was interesting and not one that I have read before. I like that while she was his true mate they didn't seem to have a problem maintaining their avarice for one another. I mean most of the author have true mates in bed before you can blink and eye. I liked that this one at least waited until the were stranded before they were overcome with lust and the heat of the true heat bond driving them together.Over all I like this one okay and I think it is worth a readers time and money to read and explore the new insights. My biggest complaint is that I wish it have been longer and that the author had taken the time to really develop the plot and the characters into memorable and lasting ones.

Nature witch Vivian was married to blood witch Harold. In a moment of foolishness she allowed him to bond her....before she found out he was evil and only wanted her power. After 5 years she is divorced and happily home in Mystic Harbor when Harold sends word that he is enforcing the bond and coming after her....so she needs to raise a demon to take him to Hell....Laurence is a big grizzley bear shifter and a fisherman - and he hates witches! When he encounters Vivian he is shocked to feel his bear calling out to her....his mate!! So he just decides his bear can forget it...but after being stranded with Vivian one night...he realizes that the man wants her too....I received this book from the author in return for an honest review- but I would have bought it! Loved it...and would tell you more because witch-shifter romance is seriously hot....and Harold isn't giving up....So not going to spoil it for you! Read this straight through...highly recommend!
