She is of Native American extraction and uses her honed instincts rather interestingly. She is the lead attorney in what was thought to be a "slam dunk" case until things started happening and she almost gets killed. This is a legal "thriller" in just about every sense of the word. A wonderful story of deceit, electronic treachery and legal mayhem. I am looking forward to more about this wonderful character, Aroostine, whose geneological roots stem from an area of the country where I spent time as a teenager.

Yet another wonderful book by Melissa Miller By Cliffj Attorney Aroostine Higgins is given her big chance to be the lead government attorney in a case that is against two company reps for a company that already settled with the government. Her week dealing with the case keeps getting worse as does her personal life...and then it gets dangerous. This story has no slow parts. I suggest you do not start it unless you have cleared your calendar for a day or two. Once you start you will not put it down.As will all Melissa Miller books, I now want the next one now. Luckily the new Sasha McCandless book will follow soon as will a new Aroostine story. I can't wait.

I had met Aroostine in the Sasha McCandless (sp) series and was very happy to have the character more fully developed. I was glad she made the decision she did at the end( no spoilers from me ).The storyline was quite good and easy to follow. The writing was as always excellent. No typos I caught and I almost always do. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes legat thrillers or just thrillers in general, along with the Sasha and Leo series.

“Most people just laugh when they hear that the secret to success is giving. . . . Then again, most people are nowhere near as successful as they wish they were.”   The Go-Giver tells the story of an ambitious young man named Joe who yearns for success. Joe is a true go-getter, though sometimes he feels as if the harder and faster he works, the further away his goals seem to be. Desperate to land a key sale at the end of a bad quarter, he seeks advice from the enigmatic Pindar, a legendary consultant referred to by his many devotees simply as the Chairman.   Over the next week, Pindar introduces Joe to a series of “go-givers”: a restaurateur, a CEO, a financial adviser, a real estate broker, and the “Connector” who brought them all together. Pindar’s friends teach Joe the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success and help him open himself up to the power of giving.   Joe learns that changing his focus from getting to giving—putting others’ interests first and continually adding value to their lives—ultimately leads to unexpected returns.   Imparted with wit and grace, The Go-Giver is a classic bestseller that brings to life the old proverb “Give and you shall receive.”   Nearly a decade since its original publication, the term “go-giver” has become shorthand for a defining set of values embraced by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Today this timeless story continues to help its readers find fulfillment and greater success in business, in their personal lives and in their communities.   This expanded edition includes the text of the original business parable, together with a foreword by Arianna Huffington, a new introduction, a discussion guide, and a Q&A with the authors.

The Go-Giver, Expanded Edition: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea, by Bob Burg, John David Mann

From Publishers Weekly This modern-day business parable, a quick read in the spirit of The Greatest Salesman in the World and The One Minute Manager, should do well with eager corporate-ladder climbers, who may at first be confused by its focus: on putting the other guy first-be it a colleague, competitor, customer, friend or family member. Told through the fictitious story of an ambitious young salesman named Joe, Burg and Mann communicate their points through the advice of an enigmatic (and highly likeable) mentor character known as Pindar. Rather than help Joe snag a fast sale, the consultant introduces him to series of "go-givers" who personify the "Five Laws of Stratospheric Success." Over the course of five days, a restaurateur, a CEO, a financial advisor, a real-estate broker and the mysterious "Connector" teach Joe about the laws of value, compensation, influence, authenticity and receptivity-concepts that make more immediate sense in this fictional context than they would in a formal business book. Burg (Endless Referrals: Network Your Everyday Contacts Into Sales) and Mann (You Call the Shots) write with a simple, informal style that offers a working-person's interpretation of the old adage "give, and you shall receive." Review “A quick read in the spirit of The Greatest Salesman in the World and The One Minute Manager. Burg and Mann write with a simple, informal style that offers a working-person’s interpretation of the old adage ‘give and you shall receive.’”—Publishers Weekly  “The powerful business idea referenced in the title is that ‘shifting the focus from getting to giving and putting the other person first is the key to business success and personal fulfillment.’ … Explanations of these concepts and how to employ them are clear and to the point.”—Booklist  “The world always needs a fresh approach to its most important messages. The Go-Giver is a great way to continue to spread a positive and enriching message.”—Soundview Executive Book Alert “Similar to Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays with Morrie, providing wisdom and insight on how to be more successful.”—TheStreet.com “The Go-Giver has created such a buzz CEOs are buying it in bulk for their entire organizations.”—Huffington Post “A cross between Jonathan Livingston Seagull and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People … an uplifting, quick read of a book that will appeal to customers who want to bring more heart and a holistic sense of mission to their livelihoods.”—Retailing Insight “Deftly written and thoroughly reader-friendly … informed and informative as well as inspired and inspiring.”—Midwest Book Review “The most important parable about business—and life—of our time.” — Adam Grant, New York Times bestselling author of Give and Take “A must-read for anyone who wants to change the world.” —Glenn Beck, talk show host and founder of TheBlaze “A small book that packs a huge idea. As Burg and Mann show in their compelling tale, not only do givers prosper, they also change the world.” —Daniel H. Pink, author of To Sell Is Human and Drive “The Go-Giver is one of my favorite books ever. It has made a huge difference in my life, and it aligns with everything I stand for. If you don’t have this book, you have to get yourself a copy now.”—Marie Forleo, founder of B-School and MarieTV “Not since Who Moved My Cheese? have I enjoyed a parable as much as this. You owe it to yourself to read The Go-Giver and share its message with those who matter most to you. It is a beautiful book, one that will touch your soul and inspire your heart.”—David Bach, author of The Automatic Millionaire “If you follow the principles in this fantastic little book—if you really strive to be a ‘go-giver’—you’ll find that Zig Ziglar was right: You really Can have everything in life you want if you just help enough other people get what They want.” —Dave Ramsey, host of the Dave Ramsey Show “There are very few books that make you want to buy a copy for every single person you know. The Go-Giver is one of those rare books that turn a reader into an evangelist.”—Lisa Earle McLeod, author of Selling with Noble Purpose “The Go-Giver is filled with timeless truths practically presented that will positively transform every reader; it’s a brilliant and easily read guide to doing good and doing well.”—Rabbi Daniel Lapin, author, Business Secrets from the Bible and Thou Shall Prosper

This book is one of those business parables that presents its ideas in the guise of a story. Business stories usually have a protagonist who is in real trouble, meets a wildly successful but mysterious guru who will share the Secret of the Universe with our hero. The hero will at first reject the simplicity of the idea, but will try it out and find that the idea works. The guru will them reveal the rest of the mystery and the hero solves his problem, finds great success, and the story ends happily. Why they all have to be along these lines, I do not know and this one only differs in the details. I mean, it is a pleasant story, but it is fiction. For me, business principles are always more convincing when presented with actual business case studies and even then they tend to be qualified in their applicability. In any case, this book has five key principles based on the notion that your success comes from working with other folks and rather than trying to and take from the world and get all you can while giving as little back as you can, the truth is just the opposite. You give as much as you can and you will get more back. Remember the story of casting your bread upon the water? Here are the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success (which are restated at the back of the book):1) The Law of Value: Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.2) The Law of Compensation: Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.3) The Law of Influence: Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people's interests first.4) The Law of Authenticity: The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.5) The Law of Receptivity: The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving. The story nicely demonstrates what is meant by these principles and fleshes out the ideas in an attractive way. I think the principles are sound and if they interest you then you should get a copy of the book and dig into it.Reviewed by Craig Matteson, Ann Arbor, MI

This Book Ruined My Evening Plans By Bill Lampton, Ph.D. When I received a copy of The Go-Giver, I set aside the last forty-five minutes of the day to start reading the book. Good plan, right? However, my intent to quit reading at a reasonable hour and get to bed at my usual time disappeared. Within a few minutes, I knew that The Go-Giver had all the suspense of a top-line mystery novel. I couldn't stop until I had read the entire book. Thanks to Bob Burg and John David Mann for this stimulating parable, filled with enriching thoughts. Everyone who reads this book will re-examine his or her approach to business and customers. That alone will be a "powerful business idea," as the subtitle says. The Complete Communicator: Change Your Communication-change Your Life!

But "good," to me, means more than entertaining. And it means more than presenting a good lesson, moral or otherwise. "Good," in my world, means that something needs to shift inside me. The story has to affect me in a way that rings true deep within. And that's exactly what the "Go-Giver" does. I read it in a single sitting, as I see some of the other reviewers have, because it's impossible to put down. It's not because you want to know what's happening to the protagonist; it's because you feel something changing inside yourself and you want that change to keep happening. Some of the other reviewers have pointed out that the basic premise of the book is to use your network of contacts to give rather than get, providing more value than customers expect. True enough. But that is only the tip of the iceberg of what the book delivers. It is a metaphysical romp that shows what happens when we let go of fear and control and find ourselves in a place we never expected to be with no immediate way out. It shows the Law of Attraction at work, and how our vibrations can and do raise not only when we're doing what we love, but when we stop designing and pushing and prodding life to be as we demand. So, yes, the Go-Giver is a tale well-told. And it is will likely go down as a classic in the business field because its values make sense and are known to work. But further, it has a soul that makes it a book about the business of life, not just boardrooms. My husband and I have already committed to using the 5 laws in 2008. But more, the book has made me more self-aware of when I am trying too hard to be strategic or large-and-in-charge. I know from experience that that is when my own story derails; now I have a guide that reminds me of the value of sharing what I love and never worrying about what will come next.I plan to give the "Go-giver" to friends, family and colleagues. For yes, the protagonist does become rich in the end, but only because he has discovered that true wealth comes from within, and what is within each of us is always what is reflected without. It's not something that we can plan; it's something that we naturally are.So, to me, "The Go-Giver" is not a good book. It's GREAT. Luminous. True. Engaging. Transformative. I'm delighted that it's in hard-cover, because I plan to keep it for decades.Robin L. SilvermanAuthor of "The Ten Gifts" and "Something Wonderful is About to Happen."

However Ian does an excellent job of keeping things reasonably believable. This picks up immediately after the first installment where our heroes need to obtain additional medical supplies for the people wounded in the first installment. This forces our heroes to go into Roanoke proper to find them. This leads to various situations in which the words of Arthur Dent ring true: "Why isn't anyone ever glad to see us?".....Given that I used to live in Southwest Roanoke, I would point out had our heroes landed in my old neighborhood they would have had better options, a hospital, lots of open sports fields, and a helipad to work with. We wouldn't have shot at them so nearly so much either, unless provoked. However stories are not made of the easy way of dealing with things, and they go with what they know at the time.

By Patricia Wilson Reverend Jacob Craft and members of Saint Nicolas United Methodist Church struggle to come to grips with the loss of one life and near fatal injury of others after the battle for survival with an old enemy. In order to save the lives of the injured Doctor Tee must have access to medical provisions that are not immediately available to them at this time and in their area. Doctor Tee knows of a secret medical facility, run by the government, in Roanoke. There begins Jacob's hazardous journey, accompanied by Deyerle, Doctor Tee and a few others to provide back-up. Throwing together a plan to find and use the helicopter, that was used against them by their enemy, for transportation to the medical facility in Roanoke they begin their expedition. Will they find the helicopter and the pilot to fly it? What are their odds of arriving safely in Roanoke and reaching their intended destination? Thrill to the dangers they encounter as they hasten in their endeavors to save the lives of family and friends in Part Two of The Amsterdam Directorate.

Help the author out and review. It means stuff at Amazon. Some reader's might have been turned off by the cliffhanger ending of 1 and 2; but, when you know it's a 3 part story going in, you know that's going to happen. I waited to read them until all were published. I do that with all trilogies or continued stories. Ian Graham has contributed greatly to the Perseid Collapse World.

“Along with Raymond Chandler, Cornell Woolrich practically invented the genre of noir.” —Newsday “Critical sobriety is out of the question so long as this master of terror-in-the-commonplace exerts his spell.” - Anthony Boucher, The New York Times Book Review "No one has ever surpassed Cornell Woolrich for shear suspense, or equalled him for exciting entertainment." - Robert Bloch "Woolrich can distill more terror, more excitement, more downright nail-biting suspense out of even the most commonplace happenings than nearly all his competitors." - Ellery Queen "An opus out of the ordinary, highly emotional and suspenseful, with a surprise finish that turns somersaults." - The Saturday Review of Literature on "The Bride Wore Black". "Revered by mystery fans, students of film noir, and lovers of hardboiled crime fiction and detective novels, Cornell Woolrich remains almost unknown to the general reading public. His obscurity persists even though his Hollywood pedigree rivals or exceeds that of Cain, Chandler, and Hammett. What Woolrich lacked in literary prestige he made up for in suspense. Nobody was better at it." - Richard Dooling, from his Introduction to the print edition. “He was the greatest writer of suspense fiction that ever lived.” — Francis M. Nevins, Cornell Woolrich Biographer All at Once, No Alice was first published in Argosy magazine March 2, 1940. The story, considered to be one of his two classic "annihilation" stories, the other being "Finger of Doom", are based on similar premises - a man meeting the woman of his dreams who then disappears from his life without a trace. Jimmy Cannon, a store clerk and the narrator of the story, elopes with Alice Brown, whom he hardly knows and they marry with a roadside justice of the peace. Subsequently, they can't find an available hotel room and a clerk at the Royal hotel allows Alice to stay in a tiny single room with a cot while Jimmy is consigned to a room at the YMCA. The next morning, Jimmy returns to retrieve Alice who appears to have vanished - and not just from the room. Her name is gone from the register, the justice of the peace claims to have not married them and the cops think Jimmy is a lunatic. And, thus, starts a race against the clock to save Alice! Cornell George Hopley-Woolrich (4 December 1903 – 25 September 1968) is one of America's best crime and noir writers who sometimes wrote under the pseudonyms William Irish and George Hopley. He's often compared to other celebrated crime writers of his day, Dashiell Hammett, Erle Stanley Gardner and Raymond Chandler. Woolrich is considered the godfather of film noir and is often referred to as the Edgar Allen Poe of the 20th century, writing well over 250 works including novels, novelettes, novellas and short stories. He attended New York's Columbia University but left school in 1926 without graduating when his first novel, "Cover Charge", was published. "Cover Charge" was one of six of his novels that he credits as inspired by the work of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Woolrich soon turned to pulp and detective fiction, often published under his pseudonyms. His best known story today is his 1942 "It Had to Be Murder" for the simple reason that it was adapted into the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock movie "Rear Window" starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. It was remade as a television film by Christopher Reeve in 1998.

Splendid By Bobby Underwood If you’ve ever wondered why Cornell Woolrich is so often lauded as the greatest mystery and suspense writer of all time — an opinion I wholeheartedly share — all one has to do is read his short story, All At Once, No Alice, first published in Argosy Magazine in March, 1940, under the name William Irish. Romantic, harrowing, and ultimately thrilling, All At Once, No Alice is without doubt one of the most satisfying examples of Woolrich’s genius at creating suspense. No writer of the twentieth century could touch him in this regard, and that continues into the twenty-first century.A whirlwind romance, and a shortage of hotel rooms leads to the unthinkable for a newly married man in this riveting short story. When Jimmy returns in the morning after a night at the Y to pick up his bride from the tiny hotel storage room, she isn’t there. Worse, her name does not appear on the register, and both the clerk on duty that night and the bellboy, claim not to remember either of the newlyweds. Once the police become involved, things take a turn for the worse for the desperate Jimmy, as the person who married them outside Lake City claims it never happened, and the people Alice worked for claim not to know her, either. With no evidence that she ever existed, the cops think he’s batty, and only their sympathy prevents him from being locked up in the loony bin. But a cop named Ainsley has a wife too, and can’t quite let Jimmy go down the tubes. When a sliver of proof — and that’s all — is discovered indicating Alice might actually exist, it’s up to Ainsley and Jimmy to find her, and uncover the reason everyone is lying about Alice. I can’t give away much more, but the story has a thrilling ending, sort of atypical of many Woolrich tales, and all the better for it. Fabulous story, tremendous writing. One of the most satisfying short stories of suspense you’ll ever read.

A big story in a small delightful package By bookgal A tight, well-written story about a young couple, newly married that are separated on their first-night together. The next day when he goes to pick her up, its as if she never existed. Its a short story and the author makes the most of the form laying out the story in a concise way and drawing in the suspense so that it holds your attention throughout. This was a treat and a delight to read. Its the first time that I have read anything by Cornell Woolwich but it won't be the last. He has a great way with words.

Tangle Wood: A Captivating Colouring Book with Hidden Jewels, by Jessica Palmer

About the Author Jessica Palmer studied Illustration at Kingston University. One day, in a life drawing class, an innovative tutor took the charcoal out of her hand, gave her a pair of scissors and said, ‘Cut it out!’ Her passion for papercutting was born. Her love of detail led her on to using a scalpel to 'draw', as with a pen or pencil. She is now a visiting artist in galleries and museums in London, Bath and Bristol, including the V & A and the National Portrait Gallery. She runs papercutting events linked to exhibitions, and she exhibits in London and the west of England. She has produced commissions, exhibition pieces and book illustrations in the United States.Jessica exhibited at the Paper Made show in Summer 2014 at the Jamestown Art Center in Rhode Island, USA. Her paper sculpture "Liber-tea-belle", celebrating the Boston Tea Party through a fantastical depiction of a Georgian bust bearing a tea clipper wig, was the talking piece of the show. The papier-mache and paper piece traveled 3,000 miles and was snapped up by a buyer based in Boston, Massachusetts. Jessica also created "This Land is Our Land", a large paper cut depiction of American birds in a huge tree commissioned as a wedding gift for a New England couple involved in preserving wild bird habitats. Jessica is currently working on a series of cut paper illustrations for "Bistronomy" — a look at contemporary Paris bistros by Food and Wine and New York Times food writer Jane Sigal, to be published by Rizzoli in New York later in 2015.

Beautiful and Intricate Woodland Designs with hidden charms By iiiireader [[VIDEOID:27b42c5fb6e9aa1ecf13e7b01cb604]]"Tangle Wood" is a lovely book filled with woodland inspired designs. The designs are intricate and hidden within the pages are a variety of animal charms as an added fun adventure to coloring. Making the hidden element an animal helps it to blend in both while you are looking for it and after you have colored it.The artistry of the designs are gorgeous. They are quite detailed, too, and I am sure that for some of this book, I will rely on my magnifying lamp and some very sharp pencil points. Some of the designs are done in a frame style with an open area in the middle. The designs are printed on a yellowish medium weight paper. The pages are not perforated and both sides of each page has a design on it. Additionally, most of the book has designs that span across two sheets of paper and the design goes right up to the edge - which makes it difficult to color in those areas and very difficult to remove the sheets from the book. I find that this is fairly standard for this types of journey/activity style adult coloring books. While it provides us with large images, it makes it very difficult to color.I have tried two types of gel pens and two types of ultra fine markers and they all seeped through to the underside of the page. I think pencils are they way to go with this book. You could use crayons but the detail is too fine for me to be able to get my crayon points in properly.Journey and/or hidden elements coloring books are some of my favorite types of books to color in. I let myself immerse into the book while searching and coloring and find that it helps the stress of the day fade away. This is something that I find true with hobbies that require a single focus as it puts me into an almost meditative state. It is hard to worry about something in the future when in the present all of your focus is on putting a color just so in the design.

It does look like it's hand drawn and that's the point as far as I'm concerned. Really imaginative scenes. I see a couple of the reviews mention the binding and the fact that the book doesn't sit flat. That's not my experience. I've come across these "flexi" formats before. You can bend them back all the way and they sit perfectly flat without damaging the book. The pic of the book closed was after I'd bent the book right back.

I really like the size of this coloring book, it is small enough that you can stick it in your bag and go. But, it isn't so small, that it is difficult to see when you are ready to color. The cover and binding are heavy enough, that when you decide to take it with you, it will hold up the abuses of being in your your bag.I use oil based colored pencils and they work very well on this paper. As you can see in the attached photo, I color very heavy and even with the dark black, there is no shadowing on the back of the page. I don't agree that the paper is too thin. In fact, I really liked the paper that was used in this book.I use a large art board with a clip and silicone bands to hold my books while I am working on them. It takes me quite awhile to finish a page, so the coloring book was on the board for several weeks. When I removed it from the board, there was no damage to the spine and it closed like it should. This is a very special book, by a talented artist and I can see it becoming very popular. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for Jessica Palmer's upcoming addition to her Tangle series.

John C. Maxwell, #1 New York Times bestselling author, helps readers take the first steps to living a life that matters in INTENTIONAL LIVING. We all have a longing to be significant. We want to make a contribution, to be a part of something noble and purposeful. But many people wrongly believe significance is unattainable. They worry that it's too big for them to achieve. That they have to have an amazing idea, be a certain age, have a lot of money, or be powerful or famous to make a real difference. The good news is that none of those things is necessary for you to achieve significance and create a lasting legacy. The only thing you need to achieve significance is to be intentional. And to do that, all you need to do is start. You can't make an impact sitting still and doing nothing. Every major accomplishment that's ever been achieved started with a first step. Sometimes it's hard; other times it's easy, but no matter what, you have to do it if you want to get anywhere in life. In INTENTIONAL LIVING, John Maxwell will help you take that first step, and the ones that follow, on your personal path through a life that matters.

It is chock-full of personal stories that help illustrate what can happen when you start living life by design instead of default. Everyone wants to make a difference in the world, and "Intentional Living: Choosing a Life that Matters," is the instruction guide for how to make it happen. As is typical of John's writing style, he shares a number of simple but very powerful ideas and actions you can take to get some momentum on your mission like; start small but believe big, search until you find your why, add value to others from your sweet spot, connect with like-minded people, and more.I also enjoy the stories he tells about how he came to prominence in his field, and it should not be a surprise: He got around people like Norman Vincent Peale, W. Clement Stone, Zig Ziglar, etc. and invested in their books, conferences and other resources. He was (and still is) intentional about his personal growth and development and he encourages you to do the same throughout the book.

By Kary Oberbrunner It seems like today it's a badge of honor to say you're overwhelmed, hustling, and "busy" beyond belief. However, as a leader this statement is a sign of burning out, not advancing forward. The goal is not a life of default, where busyness reigns. Rather, the proven path is a life of design, where intentionality abounds. In his simple, but profound style, bestselling author John C. Maxwell places these practical and proven leadership lessons on the "bottom shelf" so people can access them at every level. Discover why selfishness and significance are incompatible. Unpack how intentional people create their own calendars, rather than react to the agendas of others. Maxwell and his fantastic team have done it again. They've dug deep, struck treasure, and best of all shared it with us in an educationally entertaining manner.

Live Life Intentionally By Subramanian Narayan | Renergetics Consulting | Intentional Living: Choosing a Life That MattersThe book focuses on the power of Intentional Living, the power of living your best story and the power of living a life of significance. This book is for you if you want to make a difference in this world. This book is for anyone who wants to change his or her life and make it a life of Significance. The book gives you a new perspective on the word success. You will, like me, start thinking more about Significance rather than success. In case you are feeling intimidated with the word significance ' let me share what John says about this: 'Action is what converts human dreams into significance.'John shows you 'how to achieve a life of significance' by simple practical powerful ideas and actions that help you move towards a life of significance.I loved the way John brings out the different nuances of Intentionality, connects intentionality to your 'Why', your purpose, your actions, your personal growth, your success and ultimately your 'life of Significance'.The following lines from the book stuck with me: 'You have it within your power to make your life a great story, one of significance. Every person can. 'And John in this book shows you how.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. Money. The Bible tells us, “It’s the root of all evil.” Benjamin Franklin said, “Money has never made man happy, nor will it, there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has the more one wants.” Margaret Thatcher reminded us, “It is not the creation of wealth that is wrong, but the love of money for its own sake.” Voltaire said, “Don't think money does everything or you are going to end up doing everything for money.” Sound pretty disconcerting?

But then we remember when Rita Davenport said, “Money isn't everything. . .but it ranks right up there with oxygen.” Or when Groucho Marx said, “While money can't buy happiness, it certainly lets you choose your own form of misery.” And then there was Jim Young, played by Ben Affleck, in the movie Boiler Room, who said, “Anybody who tells you money is the root of all evil doesn't have any. They say money can't buy happiness? Look at the smile on my face. Ear to ear, baby.” We can all agree there are some pretty conflicting views on money.

Needless to say, money is one hot topic that has built quite the reputation as time goes on. It is something for which we strive and for which we yearn. It is something we acquire and then divest and invest into other things. Sometimes we hold onto it for an extended period while other times it leaves us as quickly as we earned it. We all know someone who cannot save a dollar no matter how much she makes. And then there is that friend in our circle who saves every dollar she earns. Most people feel the wealthiest folks are those that make the most money. And maybe they are. But the reality is that the wealthiest people in this world not only make the most money, but also save and invest the most money. It is pretty darn easy to be rich today and poor tomorrow. No matter how much you make, if you spend it all, there will be little, if any, left.

But that practice is generally the exception, not the rule, especially for women. Many times, young women are raised to be dependent upon men, rarely armed with the extensive knowledge they need to not only earn money, but also be self-sufficient and save it. We are told that we will always be supported and prince charming will always provide for all of our financial needs. I don’t believe in this fairy tale. Women are just as capable as men of taking care of themselves and their finances. The truth is that as women, we are independent and able to support ourselves. In fact, it is our duty to be responsible for ourselves both personally and professionally.

The Money Queen's Guide Fact: According to the 2009 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 4 in 10 working wives out earned their husbands.

But remember when I told you we would learn from my mistakes? Well my first mistake was undertaking the difficult task of supporting myself and my husband as the financial breadwinner. When it all fell apart, every decision I made during our marriage positioned me for economic destruction. The truth is that I was so fearful of becoming dependent on others that I picked an emotionally unavailable man who I only connected with on a surface level. In fact, my father jokingly said we exchanged resumes and he looked good on paper. It was never a fairy tale love story. It was the easy way out. He was good looking, smart and successful. But, ultimately, he was the wrong man for the wrong reasons. But funny enough, my journey was one that paralleled so many other women of the world.

Like many modern day women, I came from a very traditional household. Growing up watching the dynamic of my mom and dad, I decided I wanted to be more like my dad. . .I wanted to be the one who made the money.

I'm a board certified marital and family law attorney. The main causes of divorce are finances and the life and emotional issues around money. It amazes me how many women delegate their finances, and the resultant power and security of their lives, children and dreams to someone else. Partners need to be on the same page and support each other. Cary shows every woman of every age how to help and be financially savvy. She shows princesses how to be queens and build the kingdom they want with purpose, passion and confidence.

I like to read new books on financial planning, not necessarily on investments but on planning and starting out and how to turn around a slow moving disaster. Cary's book is one of those, while it focuses on women, she says the same things that I tell clients every day, build a budget and stick too it, pay yourself first, don't be so afraid of short term losses you keep all your money in cash. I also like how she broke down life into decades give milestones for each of them. I give a seminar pretty often that has the same kind of structure. I think that way, the younger folks don't give up because they think the book is focused solely on those about to retire and those about to retire know that the section specific to them is farther along in the book but that their kids or grandchildren even may benefit from the earlier chapters, The book is excellent for women and men. Most young people would do very well to read this and keep it handy.

With locations set around the global, the scenery and cast of characters were interwoven beautifully to present a storyline that was rich, complex and engaging. The storyline follows a core cast of characters from their early childhood days growing up in privilege to their professional lives as powerful adults. Along the way we are witness to the decisions they face and choices they make regarding their relationships, which are both engaging and believable. The book raises the question of power, in various forms, in society; who has it, how do they use it, what purposes are being served? I enjoyed the book and look forward to future offerings by the author.

There were many different characters from different walks of life. I found it extremely interesting the way their stories intertwined. The author very neatly brought it all together. He developed characters I loved and some I hated. One character in particular was so crude and mean I hated to see him work his way up in society. The best books are ones that can make me laugh, cry, clench my teeth and sit on the edge of my seat. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good mystery. It has all the elements.

The story takes you on an adventure of best friends in the world of the high powered (business owners, corporations, stocks) wealthly, beautiful, and privileged 1% - and with that the coruption and cover ups, mixed in with the plight of the poor and vulnerable who pay the price at the hands of the corrupt. This story includes the lengths taken for friendship and family mixed with romance, and intrigue....can't wait for the next book!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. `She had been strangled and a cupcake was placed upon the chest of the victim with an underlying note...' By Grady Harp West Virginia author Michael B. (Mickey) Dodd has spent is life working in the medical field - as well as writing. He offers a taste of his writing style with some biographical data: `I was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the son of parents who always thought my future to be either that of a genius or a lunatic; the jury is still out! I'm kidding! I'm nuts! You don't have to be a genius to write books, but it helps to be a bit "touched", if you know what I mean? While I am a confessed Christian and proud of it, I believe in C.S.Lewis' pronouncement that, and I'm paraphrasing, "the world needs less Christian-fiction writers and more fiction writers who are Christian." I like my characters to be real people with real problems, not some holier-than-thou fantasy people. Real people are sinners, but I also avoid what I consider the gratuitous use of foul language and foul people in order to be perceived as, somehow, more sophisticated.' His books include apocalyptic themes, Christian fiction, and now mystery novel - this book being the first in the Hunter O'Malley Mysteries.Michael has a conversational style to his writing and it is unusual for a `mystery/intrigue' novel to open with a discussion that seems fairly innocuous: `Cindy Walker was a virgin. She was not the only girl her age that could make that claim; but, she was a member of a quickly dying breed. She hadn't kept herself "unsullied" for religious reasons. She'd never been overly counseled by her parents to "save herself" for marriage. As a matter of fact, as she sat on the pink, cotton percale comforter that clung to her femininely appointed dorm-room bed, she couldn't for the life of her figure out why she had never... taken the plunge, so to speak. Tommy Gustafson had come the closest [sic]. He'd had the inside track since the two of them had dated in high school; but, when she found out that he'd been having sex with Margery Reyes, he got the old heave-ho. After that, there were plenty of boys; some of them were downright scrumptious, she thought. Still, there had been no one that blew her proverbial skirt up; until now. Marcus Robinson was 6 feet, 3 inches of absolute dreaminess. He had sandy-blond hair, parted in the middle. His eyes were so green that Cindy sometimes wondered if he was wearing colored contact lenses. He always dressed with impeccable taste and all the other girls drooled in his presence. Add to that, the fact that he was a starter on the University of Tampa's basketball team and... well, you get the picture. Tonight was going to be the night. Cindy had finally decided that if she wanted to hold on to a hunk like Marcus, she'd better give him what he wanted. And, while the thought of making love to such a gorgeous man filled her with excitement, she was also filled with anxiety for a host of reasons: Would she be able to please him? After all, she didn't really know what to do. Should she bring a condom or would he?' Not atypical college Dorm life thoughts. But oh where that leads.....A note of plot -` Detective Hunter O'Malley is baffled by a series of unusual murders in which beautiful, college coeds are being strangled on their birthdays. Still in mourning over the tragic death of his family, Hunter enlists the help of a world-famous author and an extraordinary woman, who teaches him how to love again. As the executioner plans his final, deadly performance, Hunter must discover his identity and stop him before the curtain descends on the life of the woman he loves.'And so Hunter O'Malley is caller to yet another murder at the University of Tampa, one similar to the frightening chain of murder with a `calling card' - `Upon the chest of the victim, rested, what appeared to be a cupcake, fully iced with pink frosting. An unlit candle extended from the center of the cupcake. Closer inspection revealed a small, folded piece of blue paper under the cupcake' which reads "Happy Birthday, Mommy.' A sicko yes, but the manner in which Michael reveals the investigation shows the hand of a creative thinker. This is a fine start to a series of mysteries. Grady Harp, April 15.

The Cupcake Murders (The Hunter O'Malley Mysteries Book 1.) To me it has been a great start into the genre, his characters are all well portrayed, his ability to bring his characters to life, in the reader's mind, is excellent.Detective Hunter O'Malley is the central character in this novel; he has to use all of his built up skills to overcome the adversities that this plot throwns into his path. The reader may shed a tear for concern, and be on the edge of their chair as they get caught up in concern at what could happen to the characters portrayed. There are many twists and turns in this novel, which will defiantly keep the reader turning the pages, and the conclusion is well thought out.I would certainly recommend the reading of this detective, mystery thriller Dodd has completely blown me away with this story.

The decision to check his out should be a piece of "Cupcake"! @badwordplay By Owen Robinson A serial murderer is strangling college coeds on their birthdays. On the case is Detective Hunter O'Malley, a man who literally could not have had any other profession with a name like that. Would you go to dentist Hunter O'Malley? I don't think so! Anyway, O'Malley enlists the help of a world-famous author, whom he quickly falls in love with, and whom just as quickly comes into the cross-hairs of the very person that O'Malley is chasing. Will O'Malley survive this ordeal, known as The Hunter O'Malley Mysteries Book 1? Oh wait, I guess he probably does...This is the author's first work in the mystery genre, and the first one of his works that I have read, as well. I have to say, for the first stab at the genre, Dodd really does a fantastic job. This is a fairly short read (under 200 pages, according to Amazon), but it doesn't FEEL short. It is the perfect length to keep you riveted from start to finish, without feeling either rushed, or stretched out to fill space. Hunter O'Malley has a fantastic debut in this novel, and he is a great leading man for this series that is just starting out. Which is lucky, because if the leading man is not interesting, then there goes the interest in your book series. Fortunately, I really enjoyed O'Malley as a leading man, so I am excited to dive into the next book in the series. Which, I just realized, came out YESTERDAY! So this is the end of the review, so I can go check out the next one!
