Jefferson [Disclaimer: This review is based on an uncorrected proof copy received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.]Lauren Rose feels like her life is coming together. She just moved to Phoenix to start her medical residency, and is once again living closer to her sister and their grandmother. While residency will certainly be stressful, being near family and putting school behind her means a welcome change. But when her sister, Liz, is found murdered at her home, Lauren begins to realize that maybe things won't go as well as she hoped. Still somewhat new to the city, she doesn't know many people and finds herself seeking support from her late sister's husband, famous baseball player Jake Wakefield. She doesn't know Jake very well, either, but he's a shoulder to lean on when the police begin to suspect Lauren of the brutal crime...I'm all about a well-written mystery and I'm all about this one. The characters have depth, the relationships are dynamic, and it's so easy to get immersed in this world. There were many times I found myself getting frustrated with a character or circumstances or worried about what I thought was going to happen. The writing definitely helped me connect with the book, for sure. And while I saw some of the writing on the wall a bit early on, there were still enough twists and turns here to keep me guessing about some things right up until the very end.There's a good focus here on the investigation and courtroom proceedings, though mostly from Lauren's perspective. If you enjoy police/legal procedurals like me, you'll definitely enjoy this book!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A Solid Read with Exciting Legal Drama By Cherie Reads I love a good legal thriller so I was really excited to read The Perfect Game. The wife of a famous baseball star is murdered. The two main suspects are her husband, Jake, and her sister, Lauren. Jake and Lauren bond over their grief and a shared love of baseball which just complicates everything. The media takes full advantage and starts to paint Lauren as the jealous sister who wanted her sister's life. Did Lauren really murder her sister?I enjoyed this book but there were a couple of things lacking for me. First, Lauren does some incredibly stupid things and is definitely lacking in common sense. Why in the world would you ever start a romance with your murdered sister's husband?? Even if there's an attraction there, it's inappropriate. As a character, she seemed very intelligent and seemed to have a good head on her shoulders so her relationship with Jake didn't seem to fit. Then again, grief can change how a person would normally act, so there's that. Second, I did not like the ending. The culprit got what they deserved but the way it happened didn't sit well with me. I didn't feel like what happened was in character for anyone involved. I felt like the details of the ending were there more for shock value than as a real resolution.Despite those things, the book was enjoyable. It moved along quickly and there were a couple of nice twists. I did figure out what was going on pretty early on, but that didn't hinder my enjoyment at all. Fans of baseball will enjoy some of the scenes and conversations but those who are not fans, like myself, won't be turned off by them. The courtroom drama is not quite on par with legal thriller authors like John Grisham but it was still very exciting and those were my favorite scenes.Overall, this was a solid read that I really enjoyed. Exciting legal drama, murder mystery, quick pace and some interesting twists. This is worth picking up if you enjoy the genre.

Intense murder mystery By Michele Marshall I enjoyed reading about the "Perfect Game" because it was based more about a woman trying to figure out why her sister, the wife of a Major League Baseball player who had everything going for her perfect life or was it? Was murdered! There was some talk about baseball but more surrounding the mystery of the murder. I was shocked at the twist in the end. Never saw that coming! I'm definitely looking forward to the next book as I'm a BIG fan of Murder Mysteries.

Not a basic how-to (no supplies list in the front, for example). I have several books on lettering, but have a feeling that this will be my go-to for ideas, practice space, and a launch pad to take Vanko's creativity and personalize it.

There are many different exercises and facts about lettering in this book. Hand-lettering for everyone gave me many great new ideas to continue to work on in the future.

I've use this book a lot and I have it up here with a bunch of other books that I use for him lettering and also creative lettering and lots of stuff so I definitely recommend it for sure. It's definitely more of a workbook look I didn't pay attention to it even says a creative workbook so if you're looking for more examples then this wouldn't be the book for you but if you're looking for a workbook then this would be a good book for you.

Dealing with Downsizing or Estate Possessions By Conny “’Daunting’ is a good word to describe the downsizing and estate settlement process,” Julie Hall writes in her book, What Am I Going to Do with All My Stuff?~ What ~At ninety-four pages, this oversized paperback targets those needing to purge their personal belongings, downsize, or deal with getting rid of the contents of someone’s possessions. After an introduction, there are fourteen chapters, followed by a conclusion, bonus article, and form.The book begins with four chapters discerning the value of a possession, noting if it is an antique, vintage, or collectible. The next several chapters discuss how to begin, what to keep, and what to discard. Thinning items, options of selling, finding professional help, and potential obstacles are evaluated, ending with what to do with inherited pieces, common mistakes made, and important questions to ask.~ Why ~Writer Hill knows her subject having spent decades helping others scale down and get rid of possessions, and it shows in the way she presents information: concisely and in an informative manner. I like that there are many tips and suggestions of what options are available. There's a storage facility nearby but I don't want to pay the monthly rental. I have no idea what's in my attic. I need to SIMPLIFY and get rid of all this stuff! Who's with me?So I found this GEM of a book. This is like hiring a professional to answer all my questions and struggle beside me with all my stuff. Julie Hall has practically covered all my concerns: what has value, what should I keep, do I need professional help to clear out my stuff, do I need a sale or auction, what about my mother's belongings now that she's gone? She tells me where to begin and how to thin out every room. She even adds advice on how to LET GO of my belongings and feel good about simplifying my life. Her book explains potential obstacles and questions to ask myself about this process. This book is so practical!I recommend this book if you have already decided to simplify, even if you are not fully convinced yet that you can let go. This book gives everything you need: all the advice, all the steps, all the wisdom of experience.

However, what about the title. The title of this book, "What Am I Going To Do With All My Stuff?" by Julie Hall tells you exactly what you are going to get when you read this book. Geared towards people in the 50-70 year old range, this book helps guide people through the process of cleaning out the old to either consolidate for smaller living quarters or for when dealing with estates after people pass.Hall does an excellent job of explaining to readers how to handle a task that can be daunting, defeating, emotional and draining. She explains how to handle going through an estate where family members and nostalgia can threaten to take over. Of all the valuable information in this book, I found two points very interesting. The first is how to discern the true value of an item. Something that may seem worth a lot of money to you may be because of the sentimental value it carries for you. This is where hiring a professional can be helpful. The second is how Hall explains how to go top to bottom and room to room listing the supplies you will need so that you can get the job done quickly and efficiently.Overall, if you are facing the task of cleaning out a deceased loved one's home or are simply trying to downsize the clutter you have in your home this is definitely the book for you. By misspider While this book delivered good dark horror as expected, at the same time it provided a subtle dose of humor - a perfect combination. If I had to name the perfect beach read for horror aficionados, 'Out of the Woods' would certainly fit the bill. The plot had all the right ingredients: a creepy (almost) abandoned mental institution; a village full of fanatical inbreds; monstrous creatures, and a motley group of people accidentally destined to save humanity.Reading the book was very fast-paced, but still each character was well-fleshed out and the reader easily and anxiously participated in the fight of good against evil. The story was told by the main character, and while it was full of dark suspense, it had a prevalent light undertone, alternating somewhere between irony and despairing humor, probably applied to help cope with the desperate situation. Fortunately, both plot and narrative style never turned ridiculous or exaggerated, which shows great skill on the author's side.On several occasions, Lovecraft and his Cthulhu myth are mentioned, but it is not necessary to have any knowledge regarding them (I had none) in order to follow this greatly entertaining book. Highly recommended.(I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review)

Rasmussen William Carl's latest novel, OUT OF THE WOODS, was my first exposure to this talented author's work. I do believe I'll read more of his tales. From start to finish this 1980's-Lovecraftian story glued me to the pages. If you can picture John Carpenter's original movie, Assault on Precinct 13, in which an almost-closed-down police station in L.A. is set upon by a gang intent on retrieving a man seeking refuge in the station, you will have the basis of Carl's novel. Only this time around, the setting is an almost-shut down mental hospital near the woods, which is attacked by a group of inbred villagers trying to recapture one of their own, who just happens to be lodged in the facility, so he can open the portal for the Old One and his minions to return. It's a wild, captivating tale, that is both suspenseful and touching, with just the right amount of comic relief that you don't get depressed and bogged down by the unbelievable horrors. This story would make a great movie, and comes highly recommended!!

For those of you who like 80's horror movies By Geeky Girl I received this book on Librarything in exchange for an honest reviewThis is a fast-paced Lovecraftian horror story. The book is heavy on action and gore and has a little psychological horror thrown in. The story line is simple and includes some familiar horror tropes: an abandoned mental institution with dangerous patients and inbred backwoods cultist freaks. I found the book a fresh take on these commonly used tropes.I did not like or identify with the main character. I found him obnoxious and did not like the way he called the patients derogatory names. I also found it hard to believe that he wanted to get famous by writing a book about a patient case. I might be biased since I work in mental health. Also, the book was set in the 1980’s and things were probably a little different then. As the story went on, the main character became more tolerable, probably because he was just reacting to the bad guys instead of talking about himself.The characters are about as fleshed out as characters in an 80's horror flick, and with the pacing of the book I could picture it as an eighties flick. Towards the end of the story there was a copious amount of gore. I wasn't overly attached to any of the characters, so I didn’t mind when they died.I wanted to touch on the Lovecraftian elements of the story. The characters talk about Lovecraft in the book, discussing how the cultists worshiped the Old Ones and this sounded like something out of a Lovecraft story. Lovecraft is described as a recluse who believed in the monsters he wrote about. I'm not sure if the character or the author was misinformed, but I want to mention these are common misunderstandings about HP Lovecraft! Lovecraft was actually quite social and did not believe in the creatures that he created. He wrote to pen pals prolifically and did much traveling in his later years. He was also a self-proclaimed agnostic/atheist, and did not believe in the creatures that he created.Overall, this book was enjoyable light read and I would recommend it to horror fans looking for some good summer reading!

By Pirate2240 If you were to write a scary novel, I think there are certain elements that are a must have, creepy stranger from out of town, small town, lots of places for things to hide such as thick woods or forests. The last element is to have a story that makes the reader want to inhale the pages as fast as possible to uncover what is really going on and that has to enlist the talent of a great writer who can engage his readers within the first couple of pages. John Zelenski does all of the above in The Journal of Ezekiel Walker, the prequel to his book, Walker's Vale.Couple this with the fact, he's a Christian author who doesn't spend time being preachy all the way through the book and you have the makings of an all around great suspense thriller, one that finds a permanent home in my wheelhouse. I guess that is why all those movies that deals with the supernatural and paranormal sticks with us longer than all those slasher films. Because I believe, we understand there is an element of the unseen that while we may necessarily see things, we know something else exists and in this case is all about evil and demons seeking to overtake the small quiet and remote town of Walker's Vale, Pennsylvania.Ezekiel Walker has just returned from his Civilian Patrol Service Unit or CPS for short, which is an outfit that men who don't want a part in the war efforts based on their religious beliefs like the Amish or plain communities served their "enlistment." As Ezekiel returns home to father, who is the pastor at the church and his expectant mother. Everything seems perfect until a tall dark stranger enters the picture, Simon Tremblestone who offers his father the opportunity to help small churches like his that are struggling to make ends meet during WWII. Some say the offer is simply too good to be true, and even though his father agrees to pray about the matter, Mr. Tremblestone gives him a pouch of coins as a goodwill offering.That's when things take an unexpected detour and Ezekiel finds himself transported to the spiritual realms when he is tasked by a band of angels for a future mission and receives a "seal" upon his hand. All the while as he struggles to find a way to talk to his parents about what is going on, the conversation between his father and Mr. Tremblestone is "sealed" as well when his father agrees to work with Mr. Tremblestone. Quite literally all hell breaks loose and the stage is set for more to follow in Walker's Vale.I received The Journal of Ezekiel Walker by John J. Zelenski for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review aside from a free copy of this book, and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. I absolutely LOVED this book and would LOVE to see a more deeper novel in upwards to 300+ pages. This is just a small sampling of the talents possessed by Mr. Zelenski. Even though I felt a twinge of fear while reading this one late at night, I know where the battle was taking place. I think he did an exceptional job at his first attempts on this book and you can definitely tell that he has personal experience in the elements of spiritual warfare. For me this one hit a home run and thus garners a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion as I am a die hard suspense thriller fan!

Set in 1945, just after WWII, Walker is returning to his hometown of Walker’s Vale after serving in the CPS (Civilian Public Service Unit). Upon arrival, and throughout his stay he experiences heart-breaking events that lead him to be overcome in spirit and body. Without the tender mercies of the Lord, Walker admits he would not have been able to retain his sanity.Written with a flair that describes the event as though you are actually experiencing the encounter yourself, the author draws readers in with each scene, one leading to the next. Action packed, you will come to know the character, Ezekiel Walker, as a very logical young man that has come to trust in God from a series of events that shattered his life. It was not the kind of title that really grabs you or tells you about the book’s content in a succinct word or phrase. It sounded close to IQ, intelligence Quotient. If I saw it in a bookstore, I would just passed by it. The digital media and that it was promoted for free made it easy for me to grab it. Am glad I did. It’s about how you manage your emotions at many different situations.It’s true. Most of us live on auto-pilot. Just as we eat and dink without thinking about the long-term consequence of the victuals that we ingest. Many of us have deep-seated problems or baggage that surface and cause us to react or behave in a way that would make our relationships with people difficult. Many of us don’t acknowledge these problems because we unconsciously believe we are right or that, that’s the way things are and we resort to confrontation and argument instead of calming down and acting or talking in a way that leads to a mutual understanding; resolve peacefully whatever issue we have at hand. To lead a more meaningful life we have to work on our emotions, monitor our behavior and watch what we say to people. And always try to solve a problems with mutual understanding.The book contains seven useful guides that can be applied in many areas of a person's life. If you can master your emotions, make a committed effort to work on your interpersonal skills, you can be successful in many facet of your life. This book is an excellent guide to help achieve these goals.

By Andre Lawrence Intelligence is necessary for a good life but sometimes it is a God given and sometimes we have created it in ourselves. This book holds confirmed steps and tactics on how to grow your level of emotional intelligence. Keep in mind emotional intelligence alone will not be able to handle all the situations so you will have to enhance your self-control and communication skills.This book described almost every single point from which you will learn that how to control your sentiments and apply them to increase your success and understanding ability. All these points are necessary for every person and I think everyone should have all this. I learned so many useful things from this book, such as: what are health benefits of Tai Chi, how to practice Tai Chi, what is the correlation between Tai Chi and meditation, and finally how to balance all 7 chacras with combination of Tai Chi and meditation. All in all, this book was very useful and I think that all people who pay attention on their body and mental health should practice this traditional Asian technique.

Tai Chi and More By Mary Ward Taylor Mia Conrad has packed her book with information valuable to anyone interested in learning about tai chi and it's benefits. I found that it was very hard to learn how to do tai chi from a book or even a DVD. I had to take a class with a competent instructor with much repetition in the basics of tai chi Quan 24. I go through the tai chi form every day and consider it a vital part of my daily life. The book is a great introduction, but as the author suggested, is only of value if it is put to practice. I agree.

A Chief Inspector Pointer Mystery The house known as The Nook would have been a perfect place for the newly wedded Layngs to live while awaiting the completion of the house they built. Perfect, that is, except for the body of a young woman found under the kitchen floor while the couple are moving in. The corpse, whose identification is made uncertain by the injuries to the face and the several months the body had lain there before being discovered, appears to be of someone well known to the family, though oddly, Douglas Layng disputes this. All this leaves Chief Inspector Pointer the task of unraveling the usual mysteries of why and when and how the victim was murdered, but possibly also who the victim really was.

Murder at The Nook: A Chief Inspector Pointer Mystery, by A. E. Fielding

About the Author The identity of the author is as much a mystery as the plots of the novels. Two dozen novels were published from 1924 to 1944 as by Archibald Fielding, A. E. Fielding, or Archibald E. Fielding, yet the only clue as to the real author is a comment by the American publishers, H.C. Kinsey Co. that A. E. Fielding was in reality a “middle-aged English woman by the name of Dorothy Feilding whose peacetime address is Sheffield Terrace, Kensington, London, and who enjoys gardening.” Research on the part of John Herrington has uncovered a person by that name living at 2 Sheffield Terrace from 1932-1936. She appears to have moved to Islington in 1937 after which she disappears. To complicate things, some have attributed the authorship to Lady Dorothy Mary Evelyn Moore nee Feilding (1889-1935), however, a grandson of Lady Dorothy denied any family knowledge of such authorship. The archivist at Collins, the British publisher, reports that any records of A. Fielding were presumably lost during WWII. Birthdates have been given variously as 1884, 1889, and 1900. Unless new information comes to light, it would appear that the real authorship must remain a mystery.

This one disappoints: cardboard characters and a plot that dragged (despite many twists and turns, especially in the last third). Others in the series are much better (eg Scarecrow, Charteris Mystery, Wedding-Chest Mystery...). A reader willing to spend $7 for an ebook ought to go instead for one of the masters of early 20th century British mysteries such as Margery Allingham or Nicholas Blake (aka Cecil Day-Lewis).

Rettke I've read all but two of the Chief Inspector Pointer mysteries and this is one of my favorites. The story starts with the finding of the corpse of a young woman under the kitchen floor of a small house (The Nook) about to be occupied by newlyweds. C I Pointer is already at the scene on the first page. As he works the case and makes his discoveries, five people became suspects in turn and I can imagine any one of them being made the murderer at the end of the author had wished. Instead the author cleverly shifts your attention from one to the next and back again. I doubt that most readers will figure out or guess the actual villain. There is a bit of humor at the beginning and a big surprise about the victim late in the book. I disagree with some reviewers about the characters. I thought they were well-enough drawn for the purposes of a mystery story and Resurrected Press must have fixed the editing problem. I found almost no misspellings or other such flaws.

Murder at the Nook struck me as being a pretty good puzzler; the characters aren't histrionic, and there are few action sequences that would make you think of a James Bond movie [compare The Charteris Mystery]. Puzzlers tend to be a bit thin on characterization; the interest for me -- and what kept me reading well past my bedtime -- was attempting to figure out who did it.Of course, as many reviewers of the Chief Inspector Pointer series mention, Resurrected Press apparently employs no one to proofread or edit. This book isn't as bad as some of the other titles in the Chief Inspector Pointer series, but the first half of the book has mistakes on nearly every page (the second half of the book is far better, but still has a discouraging number of errors).

By Amazon Customer Por seguir blogs de lectura, conoci a Jo Nesbo y su primer libro que lei fue The Snowman ( Muneco de Nieve) el cual para mi fue una aventura, excitante y muy bien desarrollado, por lo que me converti en Fan y decidi comenzar por sus inicios.A pesar de que el personaje principal es Noruego , la historia tiene lugar en Australia. Es un toque extrano, pero en realidad el ajuste no es tan errado y es uno de los puntos fuertes de la historia. Aunque no la puedo asimilar a la anterior, si encuentro que en el desarrollo de la saga el autor va mejorando la narraccion aunque no esta a la altura de Muneco de Nieve. Por ejemplo, el dialogo no es tan agudo, los personajes son un grupo heterogeneo en cuanto a credibilidad ( principalmente los aborigenes) y la trama se pierde un poco el enfoque en el camino, en un momento pense que estabamos en la culminacion y luego era seguir y seguir.La mayoría de los seguidores de la serie encontrarán algunos elementos agradables a esta historia , pero si usted no ha leído los otros de la serie no creo que usted debe comenzar necesariamente con éste simplemente porque era la primera.

By constanza aravena La novela es muy buena, te mantiene al borde de tu asiento y no eres capaz de parar de leer, y la traducción también está muy bien hecha, es muy agradable de leer, sin error y manteniendo el espíritu del original, pero adaptándolo para las expresiones que no suene forzado y mantener el buen ritmo de la narrativa

El libro bastante bueno y de una lectura muy ágil. el desenlace inesperado... excelente lectura.
