The parts about Susan's life were well integrated into the story, too. Not too much, not too little. There is some humor and a solid crime puzzle for the intrepid amateur sleuth.There is a twist with the parts featuring Susan's daughter, which gives a nice police procedural feeling to parts of the story.One of the biggest appeals, in my opinion, is that Susan is a mature amateur detective. She deals with retirement, aging, grandchildren, grown children, mature marriage. And the author includes some of this throughout the story.One book I read recently went a bit overboard on the aging parts and the cozy turned into a downer with some horrible parts for the reader. This author does not make that mistake. There is a wonderful balance to it all.

The book is consummate Americana mystery, with retired teacher Susan using all her community connections to solve the disappearance of young Sophie. The thing I truly enjoy about these series is that they move along at a steady place, always on plot, keeping you wondering who the suspect is. I also enjoyed the sub-mystery of the main protagonist trying to find her birth parents.I can not say it enough, mystery readers should rejoice. This is a well-written series.

Plots are twisted and re-twisted; one cannot predict "whodunnit" and why. Characters from the previous two mysteries increase in complexity and are even more endearing and real as they cope with what life throws at them. The "cliffhanger" ending makes one yearn for the fourth book, the sooner the better!

Protagonist Lilly Atkins is Stephanie Plum of the South, but smarter and more polished. "Home is Where Your Boots Are" is an entertaining tale filled with the witty one-liners and crazy adventures in life and love of Lilly Atkins. The book will leave you hoping for more of Lilly and her endearing family and kooky medley of friends and is a great foundation for what is sure to be a much-loved series.

A definite must read... especially for Southern girls from small towns!! Kalan's vivid, colorful descriptions of the characters and their experiences brought the book to life. Sort of futuristic, but close enough to now that you believe it could be real. Action, adventure, thrills, lust and laughs... What more could one ask for?Jax and Mia's escapade continues in this fourth and final book of this series. Suffice it to say that they continue to experience several very close calls with the hereafter, but using their intellect and skills they pull through. Mia learns more about her family history and connection to the original Vigilante network. They contine to be aided by Colette and Sam and their special skills. And arch villainess, Jovanna, continues to play out her nefarious plan. HEA... maybe, HFN... definitely. And although the ending is satisfying, there are still enough open ends left for additional future story lines.You will not be disappointed with this series!!! There is just so much to enjoy. I received an ARC for my honest review of this book and I can honestly say that I really enjoyed it.

With so many unknowns, Annie Winters throws in twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I was hoping that Jax would get his revenge on Jovana in the end but knowing that there could be a possible follow up on her and Mia's training as a Vigilante is what keeps me reading Annie Winter's books.

It had me as usual, sitting at the edge of my seat. Mia and Jax made such a great team together and I loved how Mia picked up on all the Gadgets and cars. This was a great series to read and I enjoyed every bit of it.

I have to say, I really wasn't sure what to expect here - but I was very pleasantly surprised! The thing that I think I got most from this was that this isn't a "get rich" scheme that promises huge fortune for little effort. Instead, the book focused on the correct mindset needed to get out of the rat race and stop working for "the man". If you're expecting to read this and immediately start making $100,000 per month, this book isn't for you. Frankly, if that's your expectation, I'm not sure which book is for you. However, if you're ready to put in some work, be very diligent and focused, and reap the benefits of that knowing this is for the long-haul, then absolutely pick up this book!

This book is a great introduction to the realm of passive income systems and monetization strategies but the main focus is on enabling the budding entrepreneur's mind, especially creative people who seek a way to live their passion in a financially sustainable way. Our mindset and beliefs determine our thoughts and actions and it's the first thing we need to get on the right track if we want to succeed in anything. Few people can open your eyes to the ways we trip over our own limiting beliefs and fears like Steve does. He is very insightful and also a true expert in the field of earning passive income with creative products, and has invaluable, wholesome advice to offer to any ambitious newbie. Very liberating, empowering, and inspiring.

By Fred K - Easy to read but still meaningful.Steve gets to the point in a good way and there is no blabla to fill the book.- I believe as well that motivation, what stirs us emotionally and creating and delivering value, are the biggest factors on succeeding or not.Some of his points i learned the hard way myself but his language, clear structure and the way he emphasizes these, really makes me understand my thoughts much better (besides creating new good inspirational thoughts of course!)- Goal setting, a chapter which i really liked as well, very good and applicable advice!

That is why when I saw this book in amazon, I immediately click buy it now. ahaha! I feel like this can help me overcome all the stress I have right now. I tried doing one design, it was a bit complicated at first because there is too much detail in it. But I was very happy when I finally made it done it brought back all the childhood memories!

I received a free copy of Adult Coloring Book: Coloring Book for Adults with Patterns, Henna Flowers and Mandala, published by Unibul Press, available through Amazon for $3.99. For 29 illustrations, that's a pretty good price! The illustrations range from very simple to very intricate, so it's a good gift book. It allows the colorist to start with a simple mandala and get comfortable with beginning skills and go through increasing levels of difficulty as well as exposing the colorist to different styles of illustration. I especially liked the wide margins around the illustrations, which make it less likely the colorist will place a palm on wet ink. However, the book has the same error as many others, paper so thin that markers bleed through. Why don't publishers simply include one thick blocker sheet which the colorist can place behind the page being worked on? It would also help if the pages were perforated for easy removal.There are details about the illustrations that I really found innovative; for instance, in the center of flowers, instead of just a circular dot you'll find a decreasing spiral accentuated with increasing sized dots. I remember the first time I colored within the lines of a particularly narrow drawing. I ran squealing through the house, giddy with joy. Somewhere along the way, though, I guess I thought coloring books were for kids.Thank goodness I was wrong.This adult coloring book is all kinds of fabulous. There is the nostalgic element, yes, but even more than that, there is the fact that it's just flat out fun to color in this thing.I use colored pencils (one departure from my youth), which means I can color in those lines a little easier. Some of the designs are fairly intricate and detailed, which makes them all the more interesting to color. I like picking out the colors I'll use, and I like seeing the end results. The designs are nicely varied and all are equally challenging and, well, fun.One added benefit to the adult coloring book is that it is a stress reducer. I've found myself turning to it when I need to calm my mind or forget, for a little bit, plaguing troubles. Give it a try and see if it doesn't accomplish the same sense of calming distraction for you.Disclaimer: I received this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

By Carolyn Curtis Readers of The Oxford Inklings, Lewis, Tolkien and their Circle, are fortunate to have an author of the caliber of Colin Duriez to take them deeper into the extraordinary lives of writers known as The Inklings. Duriez writes on details of their discussions and the backgrounds of each "member." (Note that this fascinating group really didn't require membership, but, because of their integrity as writers, they maintained an appropriate mix of loyalty to one another, and the sort of intimacy in sharing their work that led to literary success and deep pleasure among one another as friends.) Because of Duriez's excellent research and rich writing, I closed the book feeling that I, too, had experienced the fun and fellowship of their times together. I also learned details I'd never known before, such as how the Socratic Club operated and how C.S. Lewis's debate with Elizabeth Anscombe affected him in ways I'd never realized. I found Duriez's analysis of this and many other issues to be informative and satisfying, because his writing style is so accessible. This is a wonderful read for both fans and scholars alike. I highly recommend The Oxford Inklings.

Cofield In November, 1929 two young Oxford dons spent a rainy evening together talking of their shared love for the mythologies of Northern Europe. It was one of innumerable conversations that must have taken place in and around the University that evening, but it was easily the most significant, because the two dons were J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Shortly thereafter Tolkien and Lewis began meeting regularly and were joined by friends with similar scholarly interests. This was the beginning of the Inklings, the well known circle of professors and writers who were to have a major influence on literature in the twentieth century. Colin Duriez examines not only Tolkien and Lewis's contributions, but also those of other Inklings. The result is a scholarly and highly interesting study.At its most basic level the Inklings was devoted to conversation. Meeting in C.S. Lewis' rooms at Magdalen College or in the Eagle and Child pub, the Inklings came together two times a week for years for wide ranging, free-wheeling discussions on every imaginable topic. Inevitably, given that so many of the members were writers, bits and pieces of whatever they were working on were brought in to be read aloud and discussed. Criticism was freely given and sharp debates often ensued. The Inklings' influence extended beyond literary analysis, however. C.S. Lewis and his brother were both eventually convinced to return to Christianity after spending years as atheists thanks to the influence of Tolkien and other Inklings. The teaching of English at Oxford and the composition of the University syllabus were altered and improved thanks in part to discussions between Inklings members. And in the end the love many Inklings felt for early English and Anglo-Saxon poetry helped revive interest in Beowulf and other works.The best known of the Inklings were Tolkien and Lewis, along with Charles Williams and Owen Barfield. Duriez provides brief biographies of these men as well as many of the lesser known but still important members like Lord David Cecil, Hugo Dyson, and Nevill Coghill. He also does an excellent job of discussing the group's influence on English literary culture, making it clear that, though the last "official" Inklings meeting was over 60 years ago, its impact is on-going.

By Gardener&Reviewer "The Oxford Inklings" by Colin Duriez is a manageable collection of mini-autobiographies of the renowned men who made up the Inklings.These men were C. S. Lewis, JRR Tolkien, Charles Williams, and others of academic and literary fame.Collectively, these men soldiered, authored many books from theology to poetry, and instructed at some prestigious British and American Universities.They were friends first, and critics of each other's work when relevant, and they all were believers of Christ or came to be.Ravi Zacharias' question "Can man live without God?" could have been answered by any of these fellows.If you're a fan of C. S. Lewis, I can recommend this book. Eric Metaxas, a modern philosopher and theologian, holds educational forums under the name "Socrates in the City" where brilliant minds gather to inform regarding various topics. These gatherings are a chance to question and dialogue.I can't help but think that's a lot like the Inklings, who gathered to eat, drink, and think.I thank Lion Hudson for providing me with a review copy in exchange for an honest opinion.This book will be joining Mr. Duriez's other book "An A to Z of C.S Lewis" as well as a whole host of other Lewis-themed titles, on my shelf.

First off, it's a journal, which means that there are many almost-blank pages for writing and drawing. If you are confused about what a journal actually is, just know that most journals are filled with blank pages waiting to be filled by the journal owner. With that out of the way, this is no ordinary journal. I said there are many 'almost-blank' pages. Nearly every page of this unique journal features a different prompt or exercise to get you started with expression. Each exercise is unique and causes you to think about and see the world in a different way. All of Austin's ideas and exercises are fantastic. Everything is designed to get you, the journal owner and future creative powerhouse, to access and express your latent creativity, and that is why it's a magical book. It gives you a nudge in the right direction and then gets out of the way so you can do your own thing.

About the Author

HILARY DAVIDSON won the Anthony Award for Best First Novel for The Damage Done. That book also earned a Crimespree Award and was a finalist for the Arthur Ellis and Macavity awards. Twists, turns & a chilling look at the dark side of human nature By Kimberly Kristine Fay Congrats to Hilary Davidson for this chilling standalone departure from her Lily Moore series. I read all the Lily books and will follow her anywhere, but I'm glad Davidson took a break, because I needed this book for an escapist day of rapid page turning. I wouldn't quite call this a beach read - too many deaths (and some violence) for a sunny day. This is the story of a woman, Dominique, who discovers that her married lover is cheating not only on his wife, but on her, as well - and decides to get revenge by drugging him, manipulating him into telling the truth, taping it, and handing the tape over to his wife. Instead, on Dominique's carefully orchestrated weekend-of-truth-telling away, she and the louse are kidnapped. And there begins a twisting ride. Many reviewers and readers talk about the twists at the end, but it was a twist about a third of the way through that affected me the most. I truly did not see it coming, and it was like playing that kids' game, Whip It (I think it's called that), when someone grabs your hands and whips you forward - that's what the twist did for me. It whipped me hard into the heart of the book. Needless to say, I finished it in less than 2 days!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Perfect Mystery By Joe What I love so much about Hilary Davidson's work is her ability to be both cutting edge and mainstream. She knows the tropes of the genre, then delights in twisting those rules, tweaking expectations, and standing everything on its ear. Here, Davidson plays with POV, dividing her novel into three parts, as told by Dominique, Desmond, and Polly, with the bulk of the narrative falling on that second player. And it really feels like Desmond's story, and his character more than carries the weight. Tragic, romantic, stoic and troubled, Desmond encapsulates the brilliant antihero. I read this book pretty much straight through; it's a hard one to put down. Part Golden Age of Cinema, part Agatha Christie, with a dash of Hammett, Blood Always Tells feels classic as it forges new ground. I loved the Lily Moore series. I didn't think she could get better. With BAT, Hilary Davidson has, somehow, kicked it up a notch. This is as perfect a mystery as you'll find.

I’ve long been a fan of Davidson’s work; her prose is graceful and intelligent, her plots are tight, and her characters are fully realized. What I love most about her writing, though, is that if you look closely, her books always have a deeper meaning – a message that transcends the mystery. Yes, Blood Always Tells is a story about power and powerlessness, about selfishness and selflessness, about desperate people doing desperate things. Underneath it all, though, it’s also a meditation on fate and free will, on nature and nurture, and on whether it’s possible to overcome genetics and circumstance. Buy it and prepare to have your socks blown off.

Highly Recommend By JG I recommend to anyone following this case, or anyone just interested in the inner thoughts of a family member dealing with a troubled one, who has done something horrific. I have much respect for Mrs. Holmes for her strength, and I so hope her journey in educating herself in order to educate others leads to positive changes in research & treatment.

I live near Aurora, my cousin & her family live in Aurora. I have bipolar disorder which was not diagnosed properly until I was 46. So I suffered many years with all the ups & downs, extreme insomnia (months of sleeping less than 3 hours/night--I'd wander around outside all night) which resulted in hallucinations & etc. I heard voices telling me to walk 5 miles in high heels, to climb a particular tree in order to get a message from the moon that would "save the world."But I was lucky--my husband helped me find the right psychiatrist, MD & neurologist. It took FIVE years to get me on meds that work for me. There is not one "lucky pill" that works for everyone who has a mental illness. Thankfully, my brain disorder never made me violent. But I could easily have been hurt when wandering around outside at night.I sympathize with all the families, including James Holmes's parents. Nobody can understand the tragedy of mental illness unless they have this happen in their family. There is so much stigma against people who have brain disorders that many of us (especially people with high IQs) choose to hide it. And it can be hidden until it becomes dangerous. This country needs a full make-over in how mental illness is diagnosed & treated. There should be free or very low cost clinics in every town & city.I am horrified that James Holmes's treating psychiatrist did not alert his parents & the police when he began talking about killing people. That is unconscionable.I pray that his parents & the other victims of this tragedy can find peace. And I hope that others like James Holmes can get help before they go over the line.

By Lori Let me start by saying that romantic suspense is not typically my favorite of the romance sub genres, except when it comes to Ms. Forand. I love, love her writing. Somehow she hits the perfect balance between sizzling romantic chemistry and nail-biting action. The sexyness is there, and is steamy, but her stories always have me on the edge of my seat, and some of her scenes can be downright scary! I love it! What really amazed me in this fairly short story was how well she managed to reveal such multidimensional characters in 75 or so pages, not to mention the surprises and twists she got in. The book read quickly, but felt like a much longer story. And the dark moment was...dark... scary...and a little bit bloody. The payoff at the end, so satisfying.

I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed this story. The characters were well developed and the story moved along very nicely for being a short story. If I had to be protected by an FBI guy, "Con" would be my man! This was my first Veronica Forand book and now I just downloaded the next two. Need I say more?

Andres “Con” Conesa is an FBI agent that has spent the last five years deep undercover as the right hand man to the drug lord, Mendoza. He’s done everything in his power to protect Lorena Rubio over his time spent undercover. He met her when she came to try to get her sister out of a life of drugs. Unfortunately that never happened and Mendoza shot and killed Lorena’s sister.After losing her sister Lorena tried to get the police involved and get Mendoza arrested but Con went behind her back to protect her keeping the police from believing her. If Mendoza believed she was a threat he would’ve easily taken her out just like he had her sister.Now that Con’s case is coming to a close Mendoza knows there’s a snitch and sends Con to kidnapped Lorena believing she’s the one again talking to the police. When Con and Lorena spend several days locked away together in the Sierra Nevada Mountains they are forced to confront their feelings for one another.Snowed is a novella length book that really packs a lot into a short read. Tons of suspense with what will happen with the drug lord. A rather nice budding romance between Lorena and Con, she thinks he’s the nice bad guy but really being an FBI agent I was just on the edge of my seat dying for him to tell her the truth so she could fully trust him. And with an action packed, emotional conclusion to bring it all together.I was a little surprised that the eventual “steamy” action between the characters ended up a more pg-rated or more implied sexual encounter than actually happening, not that it hurt the story though. But for those that don’t like a lot of graphic sex involved this one should be right up your alley.I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
