Now with a new Postscript from Brain Pickings creator Maria PopovaRock star, crowdfunding pioneer, and TED speaker Amanda Palmer knows all about asking. Performing as a living statue in a wedding dress, she wordlessly asked thousands of passersby for their dollars. When she became a singer, songwriter, and musician, she was not afraid to ask her audience to support her as she surfed the crowd (and slept on their couches while touring). And when she left her record label to strike out on her own, she asked her fans to support her in making an album, leading to the world's most successful music Kickstarter.Even while Amanda is both celebrated and attacked for her fearlessness in asking for help, she finds that there are important things she cannot ask for-as a musician, as a friend, and as a wife. She learns that she isn't alone in this, that so many people are afraid to ask for help, and it paralyzes their lives and relationships. In this groundbreaking book, she explores these barriers in her own life and in the lives of those around her, and discovers the emotional, philosophical, and practical aspects of THE ART OF ASKING.Part manifesto, part revelation, this is the story of an artist struggling with the new rules of exchange in the twenty-first century, both on and off the Internet. THE ART OF ASKING will inspire readers to rethink their own ideas about asking, giving, art, and love.

The Art of Asking: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Let People Help, by Amanda Palmer

Review "A book unlike any other I've ever read. . . a book I'd have no problem recommending to everyone I know. My mother, my best friend, my work friends, my Facebook friends, my LinkedIn contacts, even the people I meet on the street or see on the subway when I commute to and from work. It's that important and that groundbreaking. This book is not just someone's brave and personal journey from childhood to her life as an artist, but it also addresses why and how it's so hard to look into someone else's eyes and be real, and ask for help when we need it. . . . Palmer has, not to put too fine a point on it, ripped open her chest and exposed her heart for all to see. She's written her truth - and it's at once brutal and gloriously, importantly beautiful."―The Huffington Post"'The Art of Asking' is a compelling read, easily the most universal work she has ever done."―The Boston Globe"Much as Anne Lamott offered 'instructions on writing and life' in Bird by Bird, Amanda Palmer will be instructive to anyone who struggles with fear of the 'no.'"―Shelf Awareness"This is the kind of book that makes you want to call the author up at midnight to whisper, 'My God. I thought I was the only one.'"―Jenny Lawson, the Bloggess and author of Let's Pretend This Never Happened"To read Amanda Palmer's remarkable memoir about asking and giving is to tumble headlong into her world. At first, you find yourself thinking, 'Goodness, what a crazy world that Amanda Palmer inhabits! How does she possibly endure it?' Then, gradually, as you read along, a doorway opens up in your heart, and you realize, 'I want to live in a world exactly like hers.' God willing, this book will show us all how to do it."―Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love and The Signature of All Things "Amanda has a direct line with her audience-a lifeline for them and for her, the codependency all truly great performers surrender to . . . She's capable of anything, incapable of telling anything but the truth."―Bono"A story about a life in one dollar bills, from statue to icon, where media doesn't matter, crowds do. Mandatory reading in the digital age, for aspiring artists and their doubtful parents."―Nicholas Negroponte, founder, MIT Media Lab"Amanda Palmer joyfully shows a generation how to change their lives."―Caitlin Moran, author of How to Be a Woman and How to Build a Girl "Amanda Palmer's generous work of genius will change the way you think about connection, love, and grace."―Seth Godin, author of Tribes "From this beautiful, heart-wrenching story of art comes an incredible account of the nature and future of commerce."―Lawrence Lessig, author of Free Culture

About the Author Amanda Palmer rose to fame as the lead singer, pianist, and lyricist for the acclaimed band The Dresden Dolls, and performs as a solo artist as well as collaborating with artists including Jonathan Richman and her husband, author Neil Gaiman.

Bridges Amanda Palmer -- indie musician/artist/blogger/frequent exhibitionist/formerly half of the punk cabaret band The Dresden Dolls -- is a polarizing figure. Her army of adoring fans follow her every move; her detractors are ready to pounce on her every public misstep, which she provides via the simple expedient of rarely filtering anything she thinks, says or does.If you have an opinion about Amanda Palmer, reading her new book “The Art of Asking” will very likely reinforce it, many times over.“The Art of Asking” (subtitle: “How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Let People Help”) is an expansion of the popular TED talk she gave in 2013 of the same name, in which she described her early days working as a “living statue” street performer and how her lifelong business model developed out of the relationships she built with fans. When your work means something to someone, she found, that person will want to pay you for it.“I think people have been obsessed with the wrong question, which is ‘How do we make people pay for music?’” she said then. “What if we started asking, ‘How do we let people pay for music?’”Over three million people have since watched that video. Her book takes it farther, delving even deeper into the value she’s found that people place on art when it speaks to them and the transactional nature of human connection. Just as importantly, it’s a master class on how an artist can build, maintain and grow an audience in a new social media environment where record labels rarely promote anyone these days who’s name isn’t Beyonce or Taylor Swift.“How do we create a world in which people don’t think of art just as a product, but as a relationship?” she asks. And she answers, in detail. For some readers, her description of the trials and triumphs of her record-breaking Kickstarter campaign where she asked for $100,000 and received $1.2 million may be worth the price of the book. It’s also a memoir, as it has to be because to be Amanda Palmer is to expose yourself completely. If there’s anything that Palmer watchers can agree on, it’s that she puts everything out there, for good or bad, whether it’s on Twitter or Facebook or Tumblr or Instagram or her blog or in her songs or, now, in this book. “The Art of Asking” is as emotionally open and blunt as everything else she does. But is it any good?Unquestionably, fans will love it. Palmer has an easy writing style that lends itself perfectly to stories told while sitting around the kitchen table or hanging out by the bar and she opens up here as never before, skipping around her life out of order to talk about influences, seminal moments, important people such as the next-door neighbor who became her mentor, and, throughout, her relationship to her husband, author Neil Gaiman. For that matter, Gaiman fans will appreciate the glimpse into their private life. Anyone who wondered what these two very different people saw in each other may gain some insight as to how they grew together and how they make it work.If you’re not a fan, you may become one. If you dislike Amanda Palmer you may find your assumptions validated, however, as she occasionally sinks into self-indulgence and skips over a few of the smaller controversies in her life. She talks about her early life and her decision to become a street performer standing on a box in a wedding dress as “The 8-Foot Bride,” holding motionless until someone dropped a bill or some coins in her hat. She describes the surprising, almost tangible feelings of connection as she offered a flower or made eye contact and how she discovered that such connections had value.Palmer went on to form The Dresden Dolls with drummer Brian Viglione, seeking “salvation through volume” with their pounding, screaming Victorian punk rock style. Their audience grew, helped in part by her insistence on meeting fans after the show and her use of mailing lists and parties -- early social media -- for more fan interactions. She began building a community. When touring, the Dresden Dolls regularly asked for volunteers, food, crash space, and for local musicians to get up on stage and open for them in exchange for merchandise table space and hugs. Palmer found that asking for help almost invariably resulted in success and an artistic community of people who were joyously looking out for each other. When the Dolls were signed to a label, their first album sold well but not to the label’s expectations. They also wanted Palmer to stop talking to her current fans to go court new ones, she said. It took her years to finally break away.“The whole point of being an artist, I thought, was to be connected to people,” she said. “To make a family. A family you were with all the time, like it or not. That was the way we’d been doing it for years, whether or not we had an album or a tour to ‘promote’.”Not everyone saw it the same way. When she took asking to a whole new level with a Kickstarter campaign for her new album, “Theater of Evil” (disclosure: I was a contributor at the CD level), she broke the site’s record at the time and went on to launch the tour for the new album. As she had for the past decade she asked for local musicians to sit in, but this time the request was coming from someone recently famous for getting a million-plus dollars -- never mind that most of it was for pre-orders and shipping -- and she was soundly castigated for ripping off musicians. She posted a breakdown to prove it wasn’t all profit, and ultimately paid the musicians, but the damage was done and her reputation took a hit. Soon after she wrote a poem empathizing with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev that brought a firestorm of criticism. She writes about those events, as she writes about everything. Palmer’s intimate relationship with her fans has, from the beginning, been based on trust. Crowd-surfing, asking for help, couchsurfing, letting people pick their own price for her music... all of it relies on the goodwill of fans to pay her to make more art for them.Ultimately the book is about learning how to ask.“Often it is our own sense that we are undeserving of help that has immobilized us,” she said. “Whether it’s in the arts, at work, or in our relationships, we often resist asking not only because we’re afraid of rejection but also because we don’t even think we deserve what we’re asking for.”

Some love her crazy theatre-girl ways and commitment to a bohemian lifestyle of art at any costs. Some think she's a poseur, a sell-out, a scammer. I'm somewhere in the middle, curious about what she does, interested in her artistic output, but not particularly keen on following in her footsteps. When I heard she had a book coming out, I definitely wanted to read it. So I grabbed a copy, and tore through it in a couple of days. It was one of those books people like to refer to as "unputdownable" (though I really hate that word) or maybe "gripping" -- as in I was gripping the covers, refusing to let anyone pull it out of my hands.I really enjoyed the book, as it gave me a lot of insight into Amanda's mind and personality, two things that fans will definitely have a lot of insider information on already. But guess what? The stuff she does won't work if she's not at the center of it all. She's found her tribe, and she's pulled each member in close by being real with them, one on one. Whether that was at live shows, in the signing line, via email (back when email was new and weird), on Twitter, or through "ninja" shows that she throws together at a moment's notice or by crashing at their house with her band, her success has clearly come from connecting with her people -- the people that get what she's doing and support it. And all of that is intensely interesting, as she details how she did all of this and why. Some reviewers have noted that this is a book that will give you a lot of info about how things work for Amanda, but not for anybody else, and I would agree with that to some extent. However, that's also the point: this isn't a self-help or how-to book (despite Amazon's placement of it in both categories). It's a memoir. That being said, if you think there's nothing you can apply to your own life after reading this book, you should read it again. There are lots of great things you can take away from Amanda's story (and the various mini stories woven in throughout), whether you're an aspiring artist, a struggling artist, a world-famous artist in need of some human connection, a fan or even a hater. It got me thinking about how I used to write, back before I went to school to study creative writing and "learn" how to be an artist. And it's got me pondering other things, too, like why it's so frustrating when people stand there staring at me instead of just saying, "Hey, can I ask you something?" or why my first reaction, a lot of the time, is annoyance instead of acceptance or compassion. Why I rebel against sappiness and oversharing, but also avoid those too clever for their own good. Why it's important to me that people be "real," but I am terrible at spotting the phonies. Why asking for things is, indeed, so difficult -- even when it will help, even when it's necessary.Am I one of AFP's rabid fans? No. But this book certainly made me see her in a different light, and within its pages she has given me plenty to ponder, and therefore it is completely worthy of all 5 stars. Well done, Amanda. And thank you.P.S. I love the "blender setting" analogy used towards the end of the book. It's a great way to explain fictional works to those that insist on reading them nonfictionally, and especially autobiographically.

Not filled with, "I did this and you can too if you just act like me."No, this is a generous, honest memoir, with no punches pulled. It's real, it's human, it's flawed. It will open doors for countless people.Amanda creates a reality wherever she goes, and she does it with heart and soul and life. I think it will take you a long time to forget this book.

Do you wish you could tell your family and friends what life is like for you as a fibromyalgia patient?

Do you wish you had a way to tell them easily, without fighting through the brain fog, what you need from them?

Living with Fibromyalgia Patients will help you!

In just an evening or two of reading, you will learn what life can really be like for fibromyalgia patients.
  • What it is like for them to wake up and hardly be able to move their feet from the mattress to the floor.
  • Why they sometimes can’t “get it together” before lunch time.
  • Why it seems that they have suddenly become forgetful, emotionally sensitive, and much more.
This book will teach you 79 things that family members and friends can do to help their fibromyalgia patients live better lives. You will learn real, practical tips for working around uncomfortable situations, helping the patient remain productive, fighting fibro-fog, and more.

Who this book was written for:

Living With Fibromyalgia Patients was written especially for you if you are in one of the following groups of people:
  • Families or friends of people who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and you do not understand the issues that FM patients have to deal with every day of their lives.
  • People who just want to know more about the lifestyle changes they have seen in their own family members or friends and how they can perhaps help life to be a bit more bearable for them.
  • People who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and have found it difficult to explain the ramifications of their illness in such a way that their families or friends can truly understand why and how life has changed for them.

What this book is not:

Living With Fibromyalgia Patients is not meant to diagnose fibromyalgia or any other syndrome or disease. It was written in layman's terms and with as little medical jargon as possible. Most people have heard of fibromyalgia, but have not had close personal interaction with anyone who suffers with the illness. The purpose of this book is to give you a clear image of how many different ways its victims can be physically impacted by it and how you can help them live a more fulfilling life. It is a "how-to" book for the families and friends of people who have already been diagnosed with the illness.

About the author

Tom Buford is a man whose wife of more than thirty-nine years has suffered with the disabling effects of fibromyalgia for more than a decade. The author is not a medical professional, but he knows first-hand what it is like to watch his wife change from one who earlier in life might have been seen on a lake riding a jet ski or climbing trees in a friend's yard to one who can hardly get out of bed some mornings, one who he has found sitting on her bed silently crying because there was no relief from the pain, even with heavy-duty pain medications. Tom knows the empty feeling that comes with seeing his bride in obvious pain and not knowing what he can do to make her day more bearable, or if he is told what to do, may not think he knows how to do it in quite the way she needs it done. He knows what it is like for his wife to desperately need his touch, yet he finds it difficult to control his sometimes too masculine touch in such a way that it is not too heavy or even pain inducing for her. It is important to understand that the patient is not the only person who is living with fibromyalgia. It has a way of becoming part of life. Therefore, the patient's family and, to some extent, his or her friends also live with it. In this book, Tom shares what he has learned from his wife and others about what it is like to live with FM. He candidly tells you what life is like in his household. He will discuss some of the things that he does or has done in an effort to make life more enjoyable for his bride.

This is a Book of Love - From Husband to Wife By floridabreezes I must admit when reading this book that I didn't know as much as I thought I did about Fibromyalgia. It is very misunderstood, and a lot of doctors don't even believe it exists. Imagine how that makes all the patients feel that have this condition! I have a good friend with FM, and I had no idea of the extreme pain that she endured daily. I do now. This book touched me because it was written by the husband of a woman who has Fibromyalgia, or FM. Together, the two of them have worked out new ways of living that allow them to still find enjoyment day to day. Author Tom Buford has written an excellent book about "79 Ways" that he could make life a little easier for his wife of 30 years. She was a very active woman and used to be able to water ski and climb trees! That is but a distant memory, but they have now tweeked the activities they share together that bring them even closer. If you have Fibromyalgia, are suffering greatly and believe there is no hope, then please pick up this book. If you are the loved one of a patient of fibromyalgia, then pick up this book to understand FM in more depth and find ways you can help them. This book dishes up a heaping plate of hope for patients and loved ones alike.

I have had fibro from a very early age. I'm now in my 40s and it does not get better with time. This book really hit home with me often having me in tears from the validation it provided. The little things like hand holding make a huge difference in a relationship if the pulling away is not fully understood. This type of thing was an issue in my marriage. Because things tend to get worse as time goes on, these types of things will spring up without warning and pile on top of what is already there. The spouse is often hit with the outcome but doesn't fully understand that it has nothing to do with them but rather to do with pain even when you tell them. I wish our marriage had had this book to read a few years ago. My husband has recently read it and while we are on the same page now, he still learned some things. I believe having another husband share with him a similar life path has helped to encourage him.Not to highjack your book's review but another book that really helped us realize the changes that have taken place in our life/marriage is His Needs/Her Needs. As you talk about in Living with Fibromyalia, the relationship/marriage changes drastically with this illness. Wives often go from energetic women able to do everything on their own to desperately needing help with basic things. His Needs/Her Needs helped us to realize that our needs from one another had changed. Other needs are now more important while old needs take a back seat. Pairing your personal account in Living with Fibromyalgia alongside His Needs/Her Needs can help a lot of marriages making life less stressful for the fibromyalgia patient.Your book also had me giggling at times. Like the bed pillow situation. While not really funny when you need all those pillows it is worth a giggle when you step back and see all those pillows piled on a bed. It seems ridiculous. I sleep with a large body pillow plus 6-7 other pillows nightly. They have taken up so much bed space that we bought a twin to push up next to our queen to make a larger bed. I also want to add that we finally found the bed for me in a foam mattress. We got a Novaform through Costco and it has been the best bed ever. If a spouse wants their own honey to get better sleep, the investment in a new mattress is key. But buy from a place you can return if it doesn't do the job because you may go through a few trial runs. The book is very quick and can be read in one sitting. I encourage everyone who's life touches another with fibromyalgia to take the couple hours and add to your knowledge about their life struggles.

Living With Fibromyalgia Patients By PatB This book is good not only for fibromyalgia patients and their families but also for those who don't have a first-hand experience with it. The author acknowledges that this is not a medical book and offers no medical advice but does offer suggestions on how to cope better with day-to-day effects of the disease. It is like having a support group in print.

Murder in Cottage #6 (Liz Lucas Cozy Mystery Series Book 1), by Dianne Harman

Review "I love the way Dianne Harman keeps me guessing right through the story. Even more than that, her work makes me feel at home. I have gotten to know her characters and look forward to each of her new books. Before reading the Cozy Mystery Series, I read her stories about the Coyote Motel and found that Ms. Harman was a serious contender for my reading time. With the Cozy Mystery Series. I could see a TV Series with Judy Dench as the 'Boomer' sleuth. So nice to pick up a new book that I am certain will transport me to a familiar place. Cedar Bay has become such a place for me. A place I always want to go back to. Keep 'em rolling off the presses Ms. Harman. You're my 'fave' boomer writer. Her people highlight what I love about America, especially small-town America. Just plain friendly, even in the mysterious, murderous situations in her Cozy Mystery Series."

About the Author Dianne Harman draws her stories and characters from a diverse business and personal background. She owned a national antique and art appraisal business for many years, left that industry, and opened two yoga centers where she taught yoga and certified yoga instructors. She's traveled extensively throughout the world and loves nothing more than cooking with her husband and playing with their boxer dog, Kelly.Being a dog lover and having attended numerous cooking schools, she couldn't resist writing about food and dogs. She is the author of four cozy mystery series: Cedar Bay, Liz Lucas, High Desert, and her newest, Midwest Cozy Mystery Series. Each of these books contains recipes from her travels. Just bad By Kindle Customer I'm sorry because I know the author put a lot of work into this but it is a perfect example of the down side of self publishing. This book is poorly written with an unbelievable story line that would never have gotten past a competent editor. For starters, I'm sorry but a spa owner doesn't inform a husband that his wife has died. That is the responsibility of the police. The dialogue is stilted and silly. Don't bother downloading this even for free.

Just plain friendly, even in the mysterious, murderous situations in her Cozy Mystery Series.

By Goldielocks I tried reading another book by this author, Kelly's Koffee Shop & it was absolutely the most poorly written book I've every forced myself to finish. But, Amazon is touting the author & the books as being really great so I decided to try again since I love cozy mysteries. I wasn't able to make myself go much further than the first chapter this time. Just wildly improbable and the dialogue is even worse than the first book if that's possible. The heroine owns a motel & spa, a dead body is discovered in one of the cottages & she is the one who goes to notify the dead woman's husband instead of the police? Really? Then she orders the maids to clean the room as soon as the body is removed for autopsy before the scene of crime people even show up. Again, really? It seems to me that if the author had ever read any mysteries or watched a couple of Criminal Minds episodes she'd know how totally wacky this stuff is. What leaves me scratching my head is how on earth people are giving these awful books high ratings. I mean, there are others besides me who have commented on the shortcomings of these so-called books but we're in the minority so I have to wonder about the high ratings. That's the mystery to me & it's a whole lot more mysterious than the books.

Stretching from the ancient Chinese capital of Xian across the expanses of Central Asia to Rome, the Silk Road was, for 2,000 years, a vibrant network of arteries that carried the lifeblood of nations across the world. Along a multitude of routes everything was exchanged: exotic goods, art, knowledge, religion, philosophy, disease and war. From the East came silk, tea, jade, paper, porcelain, spices and Buddhism; from the West, horses, weapons, lions, precious stones and cotton. From its earliest beginnings in the days of Alexander the Great and the Han Dynasty, the Silk Road expanded and evolved, reaching its peak under the Tang and Byzantine empires and gradually crumbling along with the decline of the Mongol empire. In this beautifully-illustrated book, which covers the Central Asian section of the Silk Road - from Lake Issy Kul through Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, the Kyzyl Kum Desert, Khiva and Merv to Herat, Kabul and Iran - Jonathan Tucker uses traveller’s anecdotes and a wealth of literary and historical sources to celebrate the cultural heritage of the countries that lie along the Silk Road and illuminate the lives of those who once travelled through the very heart of the world.

Review '..a wonderful reference book and an enlightening journey in itself' - Paul Theroux 'This book is a Silk Road 'bible', a well constructed and beautiful collation of a mass of information and knowledge on a truly fascinating corner of the world. But be warned: read The Silk Road and you'll want to experience it for yourself - a feat worthy of accolades and to top it all off, the book is filled with excellent, and at times breathtaking, photography' Gseographical 'A most handsome volume, admirable in scope and reliable in detail - it will serve as a treasured compendium - ' John Keay, THES 'this is a book to fascinate - not only those interested in the past, but also those keen to understand the present.' Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society 'This is a beautifully designed and produced work - undoubtedly one of the fullest and clearest- and certainly the best illustrated- introductions to this vast and bewildering subject.' Asian Affairs "an exquisitely produced major achievement - very highly recommended' Minerva

An excellent scholar, Tucker writes in a way accessible to all. He includes great background information like what was traded in the various regions. He makes it possible for people who have not traveled to these regions to understand their landscapes, cultures, and cities. I would have preferred color photographs but given the price of the book I understand why they are black and white,

Reach for the scars... Remember me? Aeron Lore: happy and humble. A people person. All around nice guy. Even I can't say that with a straight face. But seriously, things are going great. Leo's behaving herself; I'm enjoying making sure she behaves. We're a great team. SilentWitn3ss, our live-streaming news project, has launched to my favorite things ever: controversy and profit. So when the FBI comes to me and wants to use SilentWitn3ss footage to trace a serial killer named Blood Honey, I'm only too happy to be superior—I mean, to help. And if Leo thinks the brutal Blood Honey and I have a few things in common, I guess that's to be expected, given my rather unique preferences in the bedroom. My...condition. But I'm not like him. I can't stand that she would even think it. If his actions threaten my relationship with Leo, I'll hunt that fucker down myself. If he gets too close for comfort, I will make him bleed—and trust me, he's closer than I ever anticipated. There's a food chain, grasshoppers. The buck doesn't stop with him. It stops with me. Blood Honey is a nasty son of a bitch, but I can be a lot worse. Question is...do I want to be?

Review "So many questions left over from Sociopath answered. I was just in awe, really...Lime Craven has such a way with words." -- Rachel, Bound By Books"I absolutely LOVED this book, love the series, love Aeron & Leo, just love every-frigging-thing about this clever author and her amazing brainchild that is the Sociopath world!" --Holly, GoodReads reviewer "It's depraved in places, gorgeous in others and it's a story that's going to stay with me for a long time." --Klaire's Kollection"We get a little of everything in this fine offering by Lime Craven. Romance, Thrills, Chills, Suspense... In the end, all I can say is that I personally loved the hell out of each and every page and I cried when I hit the last page because yeah, the last scene was that good..." --Regina, GoodReads reviewer"In some magical way she morphed those two from the deviant characters that added a high degree of kink and insanity in book one, into two people who have struggled their whole lives with lies, secrets, revenge and now love...the end result was purely astonishing." --TBird, Bare Naked Words

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Extremely difficult to rate by the numbers. 2 Stars is more of a rough average. Trigger warnings needed for content. By Book Babe *This review may contain some general spoilers but they are all things I wish I would have known going in, and I couldn’t write an honest review without mentioning them.*Legacy is the sequel to Sociopath. You’ll need to read that one first as the sequel continues the story of media mogul, Aeron Lore, his cutting penchant, and his twisted courtship of Leo Reeves. This time though Aeron is not the big bad crazy. That distinction goes to serial killer Blood Honey. Meanwhile, we learn more about the past as well as get more insight into Aeron and Leo’s current relationship, the epitome of love-hate in a romance if there ever was one. It truly captures a couple with love but distrust, distain but attraction. You’ll find plenty of “love-hate” banter among sparring couples in romance, but this is something totally different. It’s dark and potentially deadly, yet the narrative always keeps it light…in the first half or more. (Man I wish I didn’t have to make that distinction).Aeron is a captivating narrator. He’s not someone you’d want to know in real life (that could be dangerous…or dicey) but he’s witty and intelligent as he, along with Leo this time, narrates their tale. Thought-provoking definitions start off each chapter once again. In the first book and most of this one, The author does a superb job taking readers into the world of a functioning sociopath. It’s not the crazy most people assume. Instead it’s a world of cunning, manipulative, and resourceful ways that invites danger. She is very talented with her writing style. But then the book takes a turning point. It honestly felt like someone else took over writing. Aeron and Leo’s story has always had dark undertones, but both the first book and the first half of this one were always kept light by the witty narration. But the last third of this book takes a turn and not for the better. It becomes unabashedly dark and disturbing while at the same time the reveals and the unraveling of the plot become clichéd. Blood Honey’s identity for one.Meanwhile, characters that were growing and evolving, becoming such fully developed characters that it felt like the two books were coming together into a perfect picture, begin to slip and become weak, victimized, and lost. While the cutting obsession would have been a trigger warning for some readers since the first book, a few new ones need to go up for this one (detailed violence and rape)! The book finally lost me on the later. It’s far too over-used as a degrading plot device for women in fiction that suppresses them and presents them as the weaker, helpless sex. My feminist hackles were raised that Leo’s character crashed just when she was starting to take off.I was devastated at how the story from the climax through the end played out and struggled to finish it. This section would be a definite one star rating. On top of the gruesome violation that was sickening, the resolution of the story becomes a sinking mess in some Maldives island waters. My head was swimming in questions of who some characters really were (existentially, not literally), backgrounds that needed more explanation, red herrings, and several plot points that felt dropped (including ones from the first book). The final ending is unsettling. It was ewww & unbelievable. I couldn’t tell if it was meant to be depressing or a twisted attempt at an HEA. (For the record, it was not an HEA in my book. For others, it might be up for interpretation.)

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. What to Think????? By Bewaji ***Spoilers ahead***Let me say I loved 'Sociopath' the first book in this series, but this second book leaves me with a big dose of 'what did I just read'? Aeron is still Aeron and Leo is still Leo. Their story is kind of crazy different, and there lies the lure for me. After she shot him in the first book and they are still together, I thought there will be hope for them. Then it happened Aeron's real dad was not dead, and he is a serial killer who mutilates women's private parts before killing them. What shot this book down for me was that there was rape, (sometimes it happens, sadly), but Leo was apparently not given treatment for that, otherwise, how can she get pregnant? Isn't there an after rape pills to prevent this? I didn't even read that she received counselling for it. Not only that, the rape scene was described in graphic details, now I can't unread it. It messed my head and psyche. I am so angry and pissed. I know this is fiction, but there should have been a kind of warning. The author kind of just rushed through the ending also, and voila, Leo has given birth to Aeron's father baby. How can that family get better with all the mess their lives has been and is now? What Aeron are doing for a living now, we don't know. All that we know is where they moved to and why.The sex scene between Leo and Rachel was described in details in this book. In the first book all we know was that they were briefly together. Why would I want to read in details their having sex? Also it was not clear how and who killed Aeron's mom. Aeron was runing how he killed her in his head, then towards the end Ethan stated that it was the father who killed the mother. Maybe I missed it. I don't know. After reading this second book, I wanted to rinse my brains out. ***Gah*** Sordid. It was too much for me. Twisted for real.

I thought I knew what I was getting into after Sociopath but I was so wrong. Lime Craven took what I had experienced in book and made this story explode into a million brilliant pieces and then placed the puzzle back together right before my eyes. The end result was purely astonishing and I realized my feelings toward those two characters have taken a complete shift from when I started. In some magical way she morphed those two from the deviant characters that added a high degree of kink and insanity in book one, into two people who have struggled their whole lives with lies, secrets, revenge and now love.I didn’t even think those two knew what love was, but Lime slowly showed us the moment they realized the true definition. I am not talking about lustful love, this is regarding the form of love a parent has for their child, the love humans have for society. She exposed them to the kind of emotion that draws you out of your selfish shell and into the environment of caring about others, feeling remorse, regret, accepting you vulnerability and downfalls. In Legacy, the author took Aeron and Leo from the world of needing to see blood during sex and into the world of his business, naming and chasing down the new serial killer named Blood Honey. This forces Leo to deal with her past, her relationship with the one friend who Aeron had a hand in destroying. Was she with him still out of revenge or had she developed an addiction to his need for power and blood. She carries the scars of those times, but are they scars of pride and affection or the means to ending Aeron Lore. What Blood Honey leaves behind is gruesome and evil, but they are also similar to what she knows Aeron is capable of. Is she sleeping with a serial killer and if not, then does Aeron have ties to Blood Honey.Aeron is determined to get the story of the killings out first. With his connection to the police, his internet media company will be the first one reporting and he has no problem showing the pictures of the victims if that will get him the ratings. When he begins to notice Leo has pulled back and showing doubt regarding him, he needs to refocus his attention to proving what they do in the bedroom is nothing like what Blood Honey is doing to innocent victims. When the tables are turned and his name is being posted all over the media fronts as a connection to Blood Honey, he knows he must do something but what? It is too late to silence the community but is it too late to convince Leo she is safe with him?Now this is where the explosion happens for me and I am only able to buckle up and watch the magic happen. How this all falls in place and the identities of players we didn’t even know were in the game is remarkable and I was left with my jaw on the floor wondering where this creative genius has been hiding all my life. I know some people couldn’t finish Sociopath, it was too dark for them, or they didn’t feel like it had a plot. Well let me reassure you that sometimes hanging in there and trusting the author has a plan pays off with HUGE rewards and this was one of those times. I still, after ten hours of finishing that book, wonder how I missed where this story was going. When did Lime Craven change the path of this journey and lead me in a whole new direction. GET YOUR COPIES OF THIS SERIES join the ride and be prepared to be amazed.

By Amazon Customer HG Tudor is brilliant in his description of how he and other Narcsisists command the lives of their victims through their false use of words, love And deeds. The Narcsisist is a master manipulator and he knows how to ensnare his victim with cleverly designed traps. This book, is an important read, as you will hear the words spoken to you as well, by the person you believed loved you. It was all an illusion, craftfully dispelled by Mr Tudor. The truth is never easy, but always necessary.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Unclear By Amazon Customer Not sure what to do with this. I have heard several of these statements from other than Narcissists. I suppose if you hear several from the same mouth, one should be more aware.

SUICIDE FOREST

Good news, they are the strongest 2 stories out of the 3.Suicide Forest is my favorite. Creepy Japanese forest that has a vibe like the girl from "The Ring" might be living out there. Creepy and entertaining. Highly recommended. The Catacombs is good as well, just not quite as good as Suicide Forest. A group of friends explore the catacombs and find some weird stuff going on down there. What it comes down to is that the author writes about interesting characters placed in extraordinary situations. By utilizing strong writing, it's a formula that works. That being said, there is a bit of a formula to these books: A group of friends go exploring somewhere creepy, with unexpected results. But like I said, the writing is good and these stories make for fun reading. And just to be clear, other the the theme of being set in scary places, the stories are otherwise unrelated.Highly recommended to fans of horror thrillers. If you are not sure about purchasing this, I suggest checking out Suicide Forest first, it's the best of the bunch. If you've read other books by this author and liked them, buy this collection and save $1, because both stories are worth reading.

Both stories are everything you would want in a horror novel....scary, creepy, and gives you goosebumps! These stories were also set in real places.....which intrigued me...so I went and did research on both Suicide Forest and the Catacombs....thanks to this author's great storytelling, I feel as if I visited both. Jeremy Bates really pulls you into the story and you just cant turn the pages fast enough. I will definitely read anything this author writes...I highly recommend these stories if you are a horror fan. Thanks for the great books!!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Wow!! By michelle westmoreland I have found a new favorite author. I don't scare easily with horror books, but I have to say, that this one scared me tremendously. The way Mr. Bates brings the stories together is just amazing. The first one, The Suicide Forest, really brings home the sad reality of suicide. I was particularly drawn to the main character's struggle with his family and his girlfriend, Mel. The author manages to weave together a perfect blend of fiction and an actual location, quite wonderfully. The same can be said of the second story in this volume, The Catacombs. That was one creepy ride for me. Each character is drawn with enough humanity and depth, that they practically leap off of the page. I highly recommend this book. If you are looking for a book that scares you silly, then this is it. I may have to leave a light or two on tonight.

The case of the Stolen Underwear, real good By Kris This is another great Sarah Woods The PI Mystery, but this one is on the lighter side.Easy reading. Not a Murder mystery but still a mystery to be solved. No bad language, No Sex scenes.Just a good mystery of "Who stole the Underwear?"Sarah and Carter make a great team. This series is one that you can pick up any one of the so far 14 books and read them as astand alone book. Each book is just another case that Sarah and Carter work to solve. They are private detectives and they work all kinds of cases.I love them all and recommend each and every one of them!Jennifer Jennings is a real good story teller...Happy reading!

Sarah learns the illigal art of B and E By Adam Wallace She gets right to it with this story- and it's a seemingly funny crime but also kind of a sad. This reminded me of 'Bored to Death' on HBO, except Sarah Woods is a much better detective than Jonathan Amos. Jennings keeps just the right amount of twists coming for a quick read and fun story. And it's more than just who stole my underwear. If you have Unlimited, this is an awesome free download. If not, you don't need to read the earlier books to get to know Sarah, and it's worth it if you are looking for a fast easy mystery.

This item was worth the wait! While the pencils are not the best quality, they are workable and it's very convenient to get everything in one package. The book itself is small enough to not be overwhelming but still big enough to color easily.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great set for on the go By Draginzwing I love this set. It comes with 4 full colored pencils, 4 2 sided color pencils and a pencil sharpener. The paper feels almost like card stock so it is thick. There are 47 individual pictures but the pages are double sided, with the same image on the back. Sometimes the imaged is just reversed. The pages do tear out easily but do it carefully as it is not perforated it is glued in at the top. I love that this book is small enough to take with you places, I measured it at 7 1/4" by almost 7" 1/4". When I color all of these pages I will probably look into another set by this company.

In an explosive thriller for readers of Lee Child, Alex Berenson, and Brad Taylor, P.I. and security specialist Jamie Sinclair finds herself caught in a dangerous game of international cat-and-mouse.   Jamie Sinclair’s father has never asked her for a favor in her life. The former two-star general turned senator is more in the habit of giving his only child orders. So when he requests Jamie’s expertise as a security specialist, she can’t refuse—even though it means slamming the brakes on her burgeoning relationship with military police officer Adam Barrett. Just like that, Jamie hops aboard a flight to London with a U.S. State Department courier carrying a diplomatic pouch in an iron grip.   Jamie doesn’t have to wait long to put her unique skills to good use. When she and the courier are jumped by goons outside the Heathrow terminal, Jamie fights them off—but the incident puts her on high alert. Someone’s willing to kill for the contents of the bag. Then a would-be assassin opens fire in crowded Covent Garden, and Jamie is stunned to spot a familiar face: Adam Barrett, who saves her life with a single shot and calmly slips away. Jamie’s head—and her heart—tell her that something is very wrong. But she’s come way too far to turn back now.Praise for The Kill Shot   “The adventure begins without delay and with tight writing to keep up the momentum. . . . Thanks to Christoff’s labyrinth-style of intrigue and mystery, the enjoyment is in trying to solve the puzzle. Good luck, because in The Kill Shot, Christoff doesn’t make the adventure a cake walk. She understands how to keep her readers riveted from beginning to end.”—USA Today

Not the Brightest Heroine Ever By avidreader The action kicks off when Jamie, a senator’s daughter, accepts her father’s request to provide security for a state employer on a London trip. As usual in political thrillers, however, all is not as it seems. Although this is a high-adrenaline page-turner, many of the clues were flashing neon beacons that only an idiot could have missed. Also, for a security specialist, Jamie lacked both the cognitive and physical skills of her trade. (For instance, she had been to the UK many times, yet didn’t know enough to avoid CCTV cameras. And after being chased by bad guys, she carefully shakes them off, but checks into a hotel under her own name using her own credit card.) She usually didn’t realize when she was being followed and got her a** handed to her in almost every physical fight. She was usually several steps behind her opponents and failed to pick up on the most obvious clues. The ending was so far-fetched as to be ridiculous. The positives: the writing itself was excellent and I assume from the quality and lack of errors that it was professional edited.Worst quote: “My father was an army officer [2-star general]. They don’t make a lot of money. Not even the generals.” I couldn’t decide whether to be insulted or amused by this. 2-star generals’ (O-8) base pay starts at $9,399 per MONTH. Plus $2.000+ quarters allowance (housing) and $200 or so for rations (food). But that’s for 18 years of service, and no one makes 2 stars at 18 years, so actual pay is much higher. All in all, an okay read. 3 stars.

The Kill Shot by Nichole Christoff (thoughts) By Samantha.1020 Summary from Goodreads:"Jamie Sinclair’s father has never asked her for a favor in her life. Jamie’s head—and her heart—tell her that something is very wrong. But she’s come way too far to turn back now."My Thoughts:The Kill Shot was just as explosive and page turning as I had hoped that it would be. (Page turning as in finger tapping since this was an e-read. LOL!) In all seriousness though, I had really high hopes for this book after enjoying the first book so much. This follow-up was just as fast paced and intense as the first book and I found myself having a hard time putting it down. What I love about this series is how this author includes details of military life within her books. Added to that was the fact that for the majority of this book Jamie is abroad in Europe. I absolutely loved all of the details that the author included to bring London to life. As I've never been, it was those details that really pulled me into this book and allowed for me to immerse myself within it. I could picture the different places that she was describing and it allowed for me to live a bit vicariously through Jamie and her adventures. What fun! This book was quite a ride and although I managed to figure out a few of the twists early on, for the most part I was kept in suspense which is just the way that I like it. I am very eager to continue on with this series and see what kind of trouble Jamie finds herself in next!My one and only complaint with this book is that I felt that Jamie missed a few important details that she shouldn't have. As a security consultant, I felt like there were a few irregularities (trying not to share spoilers here) that really she shouldn't have missed when she is supposed to be so good at her job. It didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book but I just felt that for her to be as good as she is portrayed to be....well, she should have caught on a bit faster to what was going on big picture wise. This is just my opinion though and I do realize that the fact that she didn't led to a more thrilling experience for me as the reader. So there is that. Just worth mentioning as it might bother others more than it bothered me.Overall this was a great reading experience for me, and one that I enjoyed from the first page to the last. I love how the author is able to create such a sense of place in her books so that I feel like I am experience everything right along with Jamie. I'm very eager to get my greedy hands on the third book as these books seem to be getting better and better. What kind of craziness will Jamie find herself in next? Who knows but I do know that I will be there to read about it! Easily recommended but especially to other mystery lovers. You don't have to read the first book before reading this one but I would recommend it just so that you get the full reading experience. Plus, you will understand more why I am such a huge Adam Barrett fan!Bottom Line: A nail bitingly good read! I need more!Disclosure: I received a copy of this books thanks to the publisher and NetGalley as part of a TLC book tour. Thoughts are my own!

A London Assignment Gone Terribly Wrong Action Thriller By VicG Nichole Christoff in her new book, “The Kill Shot” Book Two in the Jamie Sinclair series published by Alibi gives us another adventure with Jamie Sinclair. From the back cover: In an explosive thriller for readers of Lee Child, Alex Berenson, and Brad Taylor, P.I. and security specialist Jamie Sinclair finds herself caught in a dangerous game of international cat-and-mouse.Jamie Sinclair’s father has never asked her for a favor in her life. The former two-star general turned senator is more in the habit of giving his only child orders. Jamie’s head—and her heart—tell her that something is very wrong. But she’s come way too far to turn back now.It should have been an easy assignment. Her father asked her to accompany the messenger with the passport for the Middle Eastern physicist and then turn around and escort him back to the United States. Simple. Except things do not always work out that way for Jamie. First they attack her then they try to kill her and they almost succeed. I had never heard of a security specialist before. It is not a job I want however it is fine for Jamie. “The Kill Shot” will keep you guessing as to what is going on. There is plenty of action, suspense and a fair amount of thrills within these pages. What I recommend is you take the phone off the hook, go to the bathroom, then make a big bucket of popcorn to hold you because you will want to finish this book in one reading. I like Jamie Sinclair and I am so looking forward to her next adventure.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from TLC Book Tours.
