Inspirational Christian Coloring Book – More than 45 designs printed on one side of non-perforated page By iiiireader [[VIDEOID:272af11bca2d1d8dc4443f2e09320e88]]This is a wonderful adult coloring book for Christians. The artist, Pamela Thayer, has taken verses from the both the Old and New Testament of the King James Version and has drawn her visual interpretation of them in lovely line drawings that will be a joy to color.The name of the book really says it all – these are visual scriptures. The actual scripture which inspired the drawing is printed as well as cited below. It is not really part of the design but something to meditate on as you spend your time coloring. Ms. Thayer provides a little background information about her designs on the title page and I must say that I really appreciated her thoughts. Just looking through the book brought my emotions to the foreground. My plan is to color one of these designs every week and meditate on the the scripture of the page throughout the rest of the week. It won't last the whole year but it will come close.The book is printed on one side of non-perforated white paper. Many of the designs have a “frame” around the design to provide me, as a colorist, an ending point. I really like when this is done as I am not left hanging with open elements that I somehow have to finish without an edge. The designs that do not have the frame have definite stopping points on all parts of the line drawing. The designs stop well before the glued bound edge. You can remove pages if you wish with a penknife but I was able to “break” the binding enough to get the book to lie flat.All of my markers and gel pens leaked through the paper. My colored pencils worked well with the paper. If I am going to use markers and gel pens (which I will), I will put card stock or chipboard or other heavyweight paper behind the page I am working on to keep ink from seeping further and ruining other pages.I really appreciate the new move of Christian adult coloring books. That the scripture is taken from the King James Version of the Bible takes me back to my youth when that was the version from which I first learned about Christ and did my Sunday School memory work.This last note is more for the artist and publisher and I am going to try to start including this at the bottom of my reviews from this point forward:This book could physically have been improved by a adding perforated pages to make it easy to remove a page. The paper grade could have been improved but as you printed one-sided, the grade of paper used works well if the colorist remembers to put a page behind their work.

A Beautiful Gift for a Craft-Oriented Christian By Danno This is another in the genre of so-called "adult" coloring books that feature intricate mosaic-like imagery that require perseverance and patience to color in their entirety. It's a good method to quietly relax, in the same way that some people like to complete jigsaw puzzles, build ships in bottles, play Sudoku, or paint-by-number kits.This particular book is Christian-themed and features a variety of religious symbolism in differing styles. Some look almost like modern stained glass templates while others are abstract and geometrical. In terms of subject matter, this would be particularly attractive to anyone who is converting to Christianity or who regards themselves as a religious Christian. I can easily imagine a Bible studies group, for example, agreeing to color a different image each week and then come together to compare their different coloring choices before devoting time to discussing the particular verse that inspired the artwork.The paper is on the thin side, which means that you're best off using colored pencils. Those who like vivid magic markers will find the ink bleeds through the page. The paper also lacks perforations, which is unfortunate. Many of the graphics are worthy of framing, and it isn't that easy to remove a page from this book either neatly or without damaging other pages..

But this is the first one that I've seen that is Christian based. As my personal Bible devotional time has included Scripture copying, this seems like a nice addition to my time quiet time.The pictures have an iconic feel that matches well with the traditional King James Scriptures that the artist used as inspiration. They vary from traditional symbols of Christendom: the Cross, a dove, a Vine, a Bible, even the face of Christ, to birds, animals, geometrics, and abstracts. Each page has a Scripture verse written out and was the artist's inspiration for the drawing.There are 96 drawings, each on a single sheet that is blank on the back side. The paper is a medium weight. Crayons and colored pencils work well. When using my markers or gel pens, I place a sheet of cardstock behind the page, preventing bleed through from ruining the page beneath. There is a nice mix of large areas and detail work in each drawing.The artist has hidden a tiny cross on each page. Finding it is just one more way to enjoy this book.I am very happy with this coloring book. It helps me focus on the Word of God in a new and different way.
