About the Author Best-selling author Jerilyn Bozarth Dufresne is the oldest in a family of nine children, which is where she got the inspiration for the Darling Family—although her siblings fight a lot more and have cornered the market on sarcasm. She returned to her hometown of Quincy, Illinois after having lived a nomadic life in her middle years. Jerilyn currently works as an outpatient therapist at a local mental health clinic and teaches at Quincy University. She and her dog Gus live with, and are tolerated by, two cats.

I put the book down--not easy with a Jerilyn Dufresne mystery which cries out for continued reading--because I couldn't wait to tell you what a good time I'm having. First, I wish Sam Darling were a living being so we could meet for lunch at least once a month. I love her wit, her sibllngs (as one of four I know how much fun brothers and sisters can be), her dog Clancy who really listens to Sam and thinks about what was said to her. We know this because Sam shares those thoughts with us and I believe her. When she tells Clancy she has to wait ten minutes for her walk, Clancy drops her leash and waits...exactly ten minutes. I appreciate the author's attention to detail that is never boring and I love learning about the inner workings of the ER, its staff, the break room, the minds of detectives, the vet's office. When fiction adds facts I didn't know about, it's another dimension of pleasure. And then there are the murders, the poisonings, the romance, the loving or angry remarks, all adding to the fun and I can't wait for the third Sam Darling mystery. But wait! I have to get back to the second so I can continue to ponder who did what to whom...and why! I spend every minute I can with my Kindle and my friend Sam Darling, and I've already spent too many minutes here when I could, and should, be there!

Mystery, everyday people, humor, dog, romance, what more can you ask for By Dorothy I may have to get my husband to hide my Kindle so I can get some sleep!I really like this book. It has a little bit of everything in it. It is well written. It flows smoothly and is easy to understand.It's about a middle age woman, which I like. No sex. No curse words.Sam is a social worker and would be crime solver. She is fiesty, funny and smart. There has been a series of murders in Quincy. Sam's sister Jen is under suspicion. Sam can't take that and decides to find the real murderer. There are a trio of other suspects. Among other animals that have been poisoned Sam's dog is poisoned too. This is too close to home for Sam and she increases her efforts to find the murderer.I do recommend this book to all ages. Enjoy your book folks.
