By Kato's Revenge I find murder mysteries absolutely fascinating, even when say Poirot has got them all in a room, dissects each person's role (or non-role) effectively, before revealing the killer.Sherlock Holmes is perhaps the most famous of sleuths. I thought An Accidental Murder would run something like these great classic detective tales, but having read Miss New's superlative Predator or Prey story collection, I should have known better.Miss New has weaved a tale that seems quirky at first. It's hard for me to say exactly what is going on without revealing what I think are key plot points, but it would not be a give away to say that the cat 'Phantom' (he of the cover) is not all he seems to be!I know they say don't judge a book by its cover, but look at it - don't you want to be on that train to find out what's going on?This book is utterly intriguing and I would say it's biggest strength, apart from the elegant story telling, is the beautifully crafted detail the author has put into this book. Everything is so wonderfully described, placing you in the moment.Things get really claustrophobic as the killer is revealed. Even then, one is not sure how the story is going to end. There are many great characters in the story, of course, our heroine Isabella is a given, but I liked Ginny too (though that could be explained by the fact I loved her namesake in Harry Potter).Mystery and murder intertwine in a deliciously wicked way that make the reader yearn for more. Not sure how many books will be in this series, but sign me up for the lot.I rarely read a book in one go, but this totally did it for me.Get it today.

The only thing I am not sure about is the title By Bob I received this book free to read and review, as I have a long reading list I just put it at the end of this list and was going to wait until its turn however I have just read a couple of long books and decided to read this as it was reasonably short. I am glad I did.It is what my daughter would call a “gentle murder” with no graphic violence etc . What I was not expecting was a ghost story. Usually ghosts appear frighten people and go away but these were benevolent ghosts who could physically interact when they wished.I liked the way the characters and locations were described right up to the last page which although setting up for the next one did not prevent this working well as a stand-alone story. I suppose my favourite character has to be the phantom cat but I liked them all including the bad guys.It is not a very realistic portrayal of police work but what does that matter as it seems plausible and the whole story holds together well. At the end when everything has been revealed the reasons are explained much as in the Agatha Christie style.Now what would I have titled this story, perhaps “The phantom cat”Without giving away the plot there is not much more to say other than I will certainly read more from this author as this is the first I have read by her and I was very impressed.

I was gripped from the beginning and couldn't put it down until I had finished!! A highly recommended read!! I'm so glad that this is the first in the series, meaning there are plenty more to come!! Cant wait for the next one!!!
