From acclaimed author Patrice Lyle comes a brand new series... Dr. Piper Meadows heads to the Body, Mind & Spirit Expo expecting to solve health problems, not murder. But her first day starts off wrong when famous psychic Mystic Ming compares her hair to a “dung beetle’s nest” and tries to get her kicked out of the show. But Piper's bad-hair day gets worse when her Aunt Alfa gets in a public scuffle with Mystic Ming, where he accuses her of trying to poison him with her peanut oil-based essential oils. When Mystic Ming drops dead from his serving of killer kung pao laced with peanut oil, it's no surprise that Aunt Alfa is fingered as the prime suspect. Unwilling to let her auntie squander her golden years in prison, Piper orders a set of How To Be a PI flashcards and sets out to find the real killer. Secrets and suspects sprout up faster than wheat grass—including a handsome tattoo artist, Tattoo Tex, who intrigues Piper more than she'd like to admit. But can she trust him? Piper had better solve the case of the killer kung pao before the murderer turns his sights on victim number two...one sleuthing doctor! "Killer Kung Pao is killer fun! Piper and the wacky cast of characters had me giggling throughout the book!" —Gemma Halliday, New York Times & USA Today bestselling author

About the Author Patrice Lyle loves green smoothies, dark chocolate, mysteries, and humor. She wove these elements together when she created the Health Nut Mysteries, a cozy series about a naturopathic doctor who solves mysteries at health expos. Patrice also writes paranormal young adult and middle grade fiction, as well as holistic medical suspense. She has an MA in Writing Popular Fiction and a PhD in Holistic Nutrition. She's also a Certified Traditional Naturopath. She now lives in Florida with her husband and two kitties, and is a firm believer in the theory that laughter is the best medicine.

Wimmer Who knew a wild crazy grand aunt, a pig, a psychic with bright pink hair, a Texans with a gift for drawing and a heart of old, a chocolate loving Naturopathic doctor and a little thing called murder would have me laughing non stop.Patrice Lyle created such a fun outrageous book that will have reads laughing from beginning to the very end of the book.Mystic Ming a possible fake psychic who likes to make fun of everyone is killed and Piper Meadows Aunt Alfa is accused of the crime. Piper is a naturopathic doctor not a private investigator but once she prints out her PI flash cards she is committed to solving the case. Oh and a little thing called dead man texting.I'm not sure I can decided who I loved the most in the book Piper is amazing with her sweet unbreakable love for her Aunt willing to do anything to keep her safe. Even to the point of playing strip Rock, paper scissors with a murder. Aunt Alfa is one crazy fun loving granny who will having wanting to be just like her. Charles the Psychic Surgeon carries around a scalpel that makes you wonder what he has been up to. Babette who wants to take the pace of the dearly departed Mystic Ming and last but not least the Texan cowboy with the heart of gold, lover of chocolate and a possible murder. This book is so much fun and the endless one liners will be going though your head all day from Bliss = Karmic Law of Caloric Subtraction to another line Turn calories consumed into calories burned and Oh Holy Chocolate Babka to the ninth degree.I love this book Piper Meadows will have the readers laughing, cheering and awning all at the same time. This is the most perfect beach read unless you don't want people hearing you laugh out loud.Sent by publisher to get my honest opinion

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. clean, naturopathic fun By traveler7 As the book's title indicates, there is death by Chinese food - actually, death by a peanut allergy. The main victim is a faux-psychic (is that redundant?) who has a horrible faux-Chinese accent, and a horrible personality. He is not mourned, so there are no grieving survivors in this tale. Also, a minor character is killed off-screen in a bloody manner, and the heroine is threatened with a knife, but these incidents are not described graphically. You know the writer's advice about "write what you know"? Well, the heroine is a naturopathic doctor, and the author is a Certified Traditional Naturopath, so there is some good naturopathic advice sprinkled throughout the book. I am guessing that real-life naturopaths dislike being lumped together with psychics and New Agers, same as the heroine. The book has no obscene language. Sample swear phrases: "Holy chocolate babka." "Holy turkey bologna." "Only he didn't say freaking. He said another word that starts with an f and ends with ing." The worst language is probably "lame-ass psychic." There are no sex scenes, although a few characters have off-screen sex. There are several mentions of "granny panties," but the heroine's great-aunt actually wears thongs and has an active sex life. This book does not end in a cliffhanger, although the author plans more books in a series. There is a very attractive Texan tattoo artist, and I hope to see more of him in future books in the series.

Laughs, stereotypes, and inspired copy-cat company combine for fun By Illinois Reader While I am not particularly into holistic medicine or naturopathic doctors, I enjoyed "Killer Kung Pao" nevertheless. I had to laugh at many of the psychic stereotypes at the Psychic Fair where Dr. Piper Meadows, her Aunt Alfa have a booth. Along with her piglet Brownie, Piper and her auntie are staying in the hotel where the conference is held. Lots of laughs, a murder, sleuthing, and romance are waiting for readers to enjoy. I almost had to stop reading at one point to see if I could find Piper's flash card website! What fun. From a Mary-Kay makeup inspired cosmetic company (complete with hot pink rhinestone studded mini Coopers) to texts from a dead man, there is something for everyone. I recommend "Killer Kung Pao" for an enjoyable escape from daily drudgery. This is an author it will be fun to follow and see what she will poke fun at in her next book.
