I thought it was a good book and I caught myself laughing several times By Liz Deadly SandsBy: Dana MentinkDeadly Sands is a little different from the other books I have read by Dana Mentink. I thought it was a good book and I caught myself laughing several times. This is a mystery and romance story and be sure to read all of it to the end. It gets really good and has you on the edge of your seat till the end. Marty Barr owns land at the Desert Star Preserve in Ferocious , Arizona and takes care of all different kind of animals. Marty was having a normal day till a rock covered with newspaper fell from the sky and a few minutes later a small airplane does the same. Why would someone be flying over Marty's land? We have a lot going on in Deadly Sands, rocks, planes, dead body, shooting with bullets flying around and don't forget all the animals and Marty's friend that helps her with the animals. Marty has lived a quite and private life for years now. Joe Hala a native American veterinarian and also Marty's tour guide. She also likes joe a lot. Marty is hiding and keeping a secret from Joe and all her friends.. She thinks that if anyone finds out they will not like her. What will she do, where will she go , she loves Joe, her desert land ,and all her animals. Is the falling rock and plane going down on her desert have anything to do with her? you really need to read Deadly Sands , it will keep you laughing and sometimes saying OH NO.I was given a copy of this book to read for my honest review , which I have given.

Marty Barr takes care of injured and sick animals. She’s got quite the collection, from Bob the Bobcat to Tito the Javelina. For years she’s run the place with the help of her boyfriend Joe, a Native American veterinarian who is also vegetarian. Marty is trying hard not to think of things she misses since she joined Joe in the vegetarian lifestyle. It’s kind of hard to do though when every time she turns around, her quirky assistant, Lucille, is pulling some kind of meat to munch on out of her pockets. Lucille was quirky enough without the meat fetish, but it was quite amazing the things that girl kept in her pockets. And as quirky as she was, there was the perfect finance for her in Ficky. The plans for their wedding were quite unique. When a rock and plane fall from the sky, life suddenly gets a little crazier. People are shooting at them, ransacking the place, and keeping their connection to the local law enforcement office steady. Even the tourists coming for an overnight tour of the place get crazy, including the little boy that wants to find aliens from Mars.Dana Mentink wrote quite a humorous story, but also had a good little mystery running through it, with a side of romance. I was quite entertained. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that it was written in first person so that took a bit to get used to.

The character Lucille and her fiance actually reminded me of the Beverly Hillbillies characters and that is a form of comedy. I prefer suspense and though this had mystery, it wasn't very suspenseful due to the way it was written.I did enjoy Joe Hala's character as he portrayed a solid, Christian man there to help those that needed the help. Marty the main character had some strange thoughts that made it hard for me to connect with her such as "I came close to wetting my pants at the sheer follicular drama." and "plane crashing stinker." Her brother summed her up well when he said: "You're an odd little bird, hermanita..." If you enjoy that form of humor, you should read this book!
