1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Chaos in wine country By jdp Sheriff Elkins manages to get through this book without injury. A first for him, I think. Seven others are not so lucky, stating with the lovely and talented wine industry writer and consultant who is throttled among the ripened Merlot grapes. Mayhem ensues and bodies begin to turn up throughout beautiful Cedar County. Executed immigrant workers, illicit lovers similarly dispatched; with fires and a boat explosion create chaos in this usually quiet and picturesque place until Sheriff Ray finds the common threads linking the crimes. Definitely more of a thriller than a mystery but enough of the latter to keep the story interesting and moving. As per Aaron Stander's modus, we explore Michigan wine making, a current U.P. area of interest. Another easy read in this good series.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Another excellent N. Michigan mystery for Aaron Stander By James Petersen I very much enjoy Aaron Stander's Northern Michigan mysteries. (I leave tomorrow for my second trip to the Interlochen College of Creative Arts and Stander's Mystery Writers Workshop. It is a great experience.) I was at Interlochen last summer when Aaron was working on this book. It sounds like a lot of research was necessary to gain the appropriate insights into Northern Michigan's growing wine industry. (tongue firmly in cheek) I very much enjoy the Ray Elkins Thrillers and look forward to many more.

By Chad VanBennekom Having ready the series leading up to Murder in the Merlot, the same cast of recurring characters. Ray Elkins and his cast are great in this novel. There were some twists that were predictable as well as some that left you thinking until their reveal. All in all a great read for anyone from Michigan, being a native I love being able to relate to these books. I have visited most of the places laid out and love the Zingerman's Deli just as Ray does in these books.
