Thornburg I love every Lior Samson book I've read so far – if "love" is the right word to use about thrillers that explore real or at least very plausible threats to the world we live in right now. FLIGHT TRACK is no exception. The situation it posits and follows is harrowing, edge-of-chair stuff. You could lose sleep reading this book and then lose more sleep knowing it could really happen – is maybe really happening. The basic plot is relatively simple: a commercial air flight from Singapore disappears; a group of people, connected with each other and their governments in various ways, is drawn into an investigation that leads them into dangerous territory. They are forced to trust each other, yet each knows that at least some of the others are untrustworthy. Each discovery pulls them deeper into the mystery, and they realize there's no way out but to go on through. To the book's broad scope and expert pacing, add three-dimensional, engaging characters. Some of them have appeared, in larger or smaller roles, in earlier books (some of which I haven't yet read), but they stand by themselves here and the references to their past careers and relationships are not confusing. Although the books seem to follow chronologically, they're not a series that needs to be read in order. This wasn't an entirely easy read for me, because it involves so much technology that I don't come close to understanding. But I followed it with no real trouble. The only complaint I have, in fact, is that sometimes the dialogue does more explaining than necessary. For example, Character A says to Character B, "[We] were working on that Pacificano flight that disappeared earlier this week …" and goes on to tell what happened after the disappearance. But unless Character B has been in a sensory deprivation tank, he knows what "that Pacificano flight" means without further explanation, and so does the reader. In another instance, one character tells another to "turn on CNN. They loop the headlines." Of course they loop the headlines – even I know that. But this isn't enough of a complaint to keep me from giving FLIGHT TRACK five stars. Like every other Lior Samson book I've read, this one is stunning, compelling, and thought-provoking.

I have to admit that I originally thought the book might be reaching a bit. As an airline pilot, I had a hard time buying into the premise that a modern airliner could be electronically hijacked, but after reading the book, it seems much more plausible now. I'm not an electronic geek, so I won't pretend to understand the details of the methods used, but as a reasonably tech-savvy guy, it sure made sense to me.The aviation scenes are almost secondary to the twists and turns involving the people in the story. Mr. Samson does a great job of character building, and getting into the motivations behind their actions. These are folks you see everyday, yet have more going on in their lives than you'd suspect at first glance. They're people you feel you know.As one of the previous reviewers mentioned, reading this book in "real time" is a great way to kill a weekend. It's fast-paced, and very tough to put down. Plan on leaving the TV off, and if you're married with children, you may want to send the family to the relatives for a day or two. This is my first Lior Samson book, but won't be my last.

Who would believe an airliner could vanish over the Pacific? After a year of searching for MH370, headlines around the world have validated the premise. This novel is well plotted and presented with a writing style that I found compelling and entertaining. The narrative is informative without boring me with details and the characters are developed with dialog that provides insight and allows my imagination to keep me in the scene. I enjoy mystery and suspense and this book kept me turning pages and seeking answers. When the last page was turned, I immediately searched Amazon for more books by this author. I highly recommend this one.
