By Ann The Inspector Erlendur series was a wonderful discovery. Indridason is among the top writers of the crime genre today. His pensive Icelandic perspective (that is not without humor) and the quirky aspects of the crimes he investigates makes these books entertaining. His personality, related to a childhood trauma that reveals itself over the course of the first three books, and the relationship he builds with the daughter whom he abandoned as a toddler add color, but solving murders is his first love. If a pickled brain or a half-naked Santa don't pique your curiosity, then look for formulaic books by someone like Patterson (and his sweat shop of writers).

One of the best writers going, in any language By Michael Guetti The first book was good but the next three were terrific, as the writer (and translator) found their pace. I bought the first three books together, devoured them and was surprised when I had reached the end of book three. Excellent, thoughtful writing, as the main character (Erlendur) wrestles with his sad past, his sad present and his seemingly bleak future. But all is not yet lost! He wants to change, and does, but with the tiniest of steps. And there is some good humor here as well.I will read all that he has written, and hope that they can find an actor complex enough to make these books into a series for TV.
