The hard-boiled detective genre gets a millennial makeover in this smart Chicagoland mystery.

Little Village finds Duncan Walsh and his girlfriend, Ginger McAllister, in their small office on historic LaSalle Street. Duncan spends most days buried in the minutiae involved in being the managing editor of their start-up blog, Vision: Chicago, while Ginger holds the enterprise afloat as the marketing and advertising wiz.

With its small staff of unpaid interns, the Vision covers news, sports, politics, the art scene…and missing persons. The blog had received a good kick-start when the team tracked down a missing university student. Of course, the investment by Duncan’s best friend, Luis Martinez, was a big help, too. So when Luis comes to Duncan with another missing person case to investigate, there can only be one response.

An adorable nine-year-old girl has gone missing. However, she’s undocumented, as are her parents, which complicates matters. But Duncan is as determined as ever to find her, going so far as to create a dangerous alliance with local gang leader Oscar Sosa.

Navigating the dark underworld of human trafficking brings more surprising twists and turns, as Duncan learns just how vulnerable the Windy City’s sizable community of undocumented immigrants is.

Strangely, both books seem to start out rather slow, to the point I wanted to chastise the author for boring me, but then they take off like a rocket ride, you're barely holding on to the handle bars, your hair is streaming out behind you (if you have any) in the slip stream, and your feet are up over ears from the rocket's propulsion and it stays that way to the end of the book. You stay up until 3:00 AM to finish the book. Seriously. I could not put the book down, especially the first book. This one was just as good, just a different story. There are a lot of F bombs in both books, just saying, but I don't mind at all, because that is how people that age talk in the real world, and how many of us potty mouths talk in private no matter how old we are.Since Amazon asked me about it, let me say I also really like how there is no sex between the characters. I am not saying that Duncan doesn't have sex with his girlfriend. Of course he does, however, I love how the author does not give annoyingly soft porn details about it in the story. I hate that when a writer does that. If I wanted soft porn I would go find some stupid romance or read 50 shades of grey which I haven't read and never will... where was I? Mark Allen's books and a lot of fun to read. They are 100% entertainment to me, and that's what I want. Let me escape and go to Chicago with Duncan Walsh, and find out what all the various characters are doing, and laugh out loud every now and then.Someone commented that the second book was a darker subject than the first, and I guess that may be true. The first book is about an adult abduction, and the second book introduces you to some statistics regarding non-adult abductions that are surprising and unexpected. However, from my view I really appreciate how Mark uses his story to give you some education without making you feel sick about the truth, because after all, you are reading the book for entertainment (escape via fiction) so thank you for having a good ending in both stories. My only other request is make yourself an Author page on Amazon so I can go check and see what else you've written, because there are a LOT of writing Mark Allens on Amazon. There's a lot of Mark Allens period, I use to work with one. I think a lot of people have, there's 2,384 of them on LinkedIn... which I guess is nothing compared to the 17,696 Bob Smiths on LinkedIn... I digress.Really enjoyed the book, keep writing.

Duncan has a request for help from his close friend, Luis. It is a request Duncan can hardly decline. The investigation takes many twists and turns including Duncan aggravating some members of CPD.If you like to read mysteries full of adventure and suspense with the added bonus of humor you'll enjoy this book

Tenacious, annoying and mixed up in something he really shouldn't have gotten involved in. This one may be too much even for him and his friends though. The body count is mounting and between gang members and mobsters there is no safe ground, but it's all to save the children so he will do whatever it takes.
