As his body lies unconscious, Ruiz’s spirit encounters the people, ideas, and events that have shaped him, illuminating the eternal struggle between life—unending energy and truth—and death—matter and subjective knowledge—in which we are all called to engage.
Over ten years in the making, The Toltec Art of Life and Death invites readers into the mind of a master of spiritual seeking, offering an unparalleled and intimate glimpse into the development of a soul. In this culmination of a lifetime's learning, Ruiz shares with readers the innermost workings of his singular heart and mind, and summons us to grapple with timeless insights, drawn from ancient Toltec wisdom, that are the essence of transformation.

Don Miguel's Dying Dream By Jim Morris What we have here, at least so far, is the story of his long near death experience after his 2002 heart attack. In the story, and I believe in life his mother has the power and skill to meet him in dreams, and it is her intent that he survive the heart attack, even after he himself has accepted his death. Reading this my thoughts bounce around a lot on their own. How would this book read to someone who just picked it up cold, someone who had never heard of Miguel or The Four Agreements. Surely, at some point, such a person, probably many of them will read this book. I try to imagine how such a person will read it and I can't. For the past thirteen years I have been deeply involved with Miguel and his apprentices and other students. For the past forty I have been investigating the body of thought of which his work is a part. In this book I am finding the answers to every damn question I had left. I cannot read an account of how he discovered a teaching without going through how that teaching has played out in my own life. Another line of thought is how his collaboration with Barbara Emrys has played out. I was her student for two years, and I have read her other books. she is a beautiful, brilliant woman and she writes like a dream. Miguel likes to work with collaborators. On The Four Agreements he collaborated with Janet Mills, and that collaboration yielded very different results. The Four Agreements is clear, simple direct. This book is a long surreal fever dream, and every reader will read a different book, because Barbara is not his only collaborator. All of us are.

This is not a book that a person should start with because of the references in so many ways to "The Four Agreements", "Voice of Knowledge", and "Mastery of Love". There are many new insights in this book not found in his previous books that will make this a treasure for those that have read and have enjoyed his previous works.
13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. All the humility is gone By L. Ross I liked the earlier books a lot. This one is a strange journey, but that's not what bothers me. Throughout the book, Ruiz is presented as supernatural, almost as a god. The humility that was present in his earlier books was totally absent from this one. I felt some fascination as from fiction, but was not illiuminated, even turned off by the self-aggrandizement.
