By Rysa Walker A quick and moving read that taps into the effect of fate and neglect on those at bottom of our social and economic system. Eddie and Sunny encapsulates what can happen in a culture that views the less fortunate as failures. This is not a comfortable story, nor is it, in most respects, a comforting one. The exception is the love for each other and their children that shines through from beginning to end.This is not the type of novel I usually read, since I read fiction for pleasure and for escape. But it's the type that I believe we all need to read on occasion to help those of us who have been among the working (or trying-to-work) poor remember what it was like to wonder where your child's next meal would come from, and to help those who have never tasted misfortune to have a bit of empathy.

A haunting, powerful novel By Jamber This is a searingly tender exploration of love that flourishes where you'd least expect it to survive, at the heart of America's financial malaise. EDDIE AND SUNNY is a timely novel from an author whose distinctive voice resonates with confidence and compassion. Prose that stings like a whip and is at times gentle as a caress is perfectly captured by the book's cover, which shows that something broken can still be beautiful. There's tension and suspense on every page, underpinned throughout by themes of desperation, hope, dispossession and loyalty. Eddie and Sunny are irresistible protagonists, nuanced and flawed and fierce in their devotion to one another and their small family. The book's layers of violence, from societal rejection and economic disempowerment to actual blows and bullets, got under my skin like a bruise. At times evocative of the iconic THELMA AND LOUISE, EDDIE AND SUNNY is a story of love and endurance that lingers long after the last page.
12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Love Kept Them By Annie I must say Stacey Cochran hit the ball out of the park in regards to capturing and holding my attention. It was easy to see how Eddie and Sunny walked into situations they shouldn't have. Being down and out opened the door to what they didn't want other than survival which they did. All I could think of was, "Love will keep us together..." It kept them. This novel was well paced, the story was plausible, the characters tugged at my heart, and I'd like to know more of their future. I was delighted to be offered a copy for review which I welcomed since I've enjoyed the writings by Stacey Cochran. He delivers originality and does not disappoint.
