The Psalms – 45 beautiful and inspiration designs By iiiireader [[VIDEOID:1d3513701cd9989cc120deeeb1b3a175]]This is a book of 45 beautiful and inspirational hand-drawn illustrations. Most of the designs have intricate elements to them. The artist is Ember Canada, who was on active duty with the United States Army prior to being medically retired in 2014. Her drawings show her deep passion for the glory of God's creation.Just looking through the designs is uplifting, so I know that coloring them will really take me to a place of spiritual relaxation and an appreciation for the promises of the Psalms. The verses used in this book are taken from “The Passion Translation” of the Bible. I'm not familiar with that translation but the words are beautifully expressed and the drawings give a visual enhancement to the words.There are 45 designs and, for fun, there are a number of hidden symbols within the drawings. While there is a listing of the items, to find the answers as to where they are, you will either find them in the drawings or visit the publishers website.The designs are printed on white paper that is a nice quality but thin. The designs are printed on only one side (with the back left blank.) The paper is acid-free and is not perforated but the publisher states that the pages are easy tear-outs. I assume that is from the glue binding but have not removed one as yet.All of my markers and some of my gel pens leak through the page. Not a problem, as I can put a heavyweight paper behind the page I am working on to keep the ink from messing up the rest of the book.I am really happy to see inspiration Biblical adult coloring books being made. I plan to spend many hours with this book and hope to see more in the future.
18 of 18 people found the following review helpful. When you want a scholarly task and an artistic puzzle By S. Kuhlenschmidt There are 2 parts to this book. The first, is the scripture. Those considering it should realize that it appears to be based on a New Apostolic Church translation by one man (Simmons; typically in translations teams of scholars work to reach interpretations free of the biases of any single individual). This translation may reflect the beliefs of that person and may not match your favored Bible translations. You might consider it an opportunity to do some Bible study of several translations to take your understanding to a deeper level and then write in your favored translation.The 2nd level is the art. This is a book that requires interpretation of the art. I like that as I feel I'm joining in creating it. The shapes are not "classic coloring, that is, the edges are not clearly defined so you have to make some decisions. I would call them "ethereal." The font for the scripture is artistic, which makes you slow down to read it--and maybe find something different with each reading. If you have some training in art or are seeking pictures that require you to engage with them and reflect on what could be meant, then this is a solid book. If you are seeking something more advanced or more of a puzzle to solve, this is a book that might please you. If you need to turn off your brain for a bit and just fill in spaces, then this one likely isn't for you. If you have a visual disability, you likely will have trouble "reading" these pictures. I like to shift from style to style and this one is good when I want a bit of a challenge and to do some study of the source scripture. I have attached one image that I completed using watercolor pencils. Another person may see water flowing elsewhere or a different configuration of branches.

By Justin Other Shopper Disappointed for 2 reasons-- for one the printing of the scripture verse on most pages is too small and too light to be easily read by anyone looking at the picture. The second is that some of these are so finely detailed I'm not sure how they will look colored. A friend thought that at least some of them had originally been larger posters that had actually been shrunk to fit 8 1/2 x 11 pages. I don't like super-artistic drawings where I'm not sure where one line begins and another ends, and there is quite a bit of that in this book, too. I had wanted some pictures I could color and frame, and this doesn't seem as though it will work well for that. Oh well.
