About the Author Mark Lukens has been writing since the second grade when his teacher called his parents in for a conference because the ghost story he'd written had her a little concerned. Since then he's had several stories published and four screenplays optioned by producers in Hollywood. One script is in development to be a feature film. He is the author of Ancient Enemy, Descendants of Magic, The Summoning, Night Terrors, Sightings, Ghost Town: a novella, and A Dark Collection: 12 Scary Stories. He is a member of the Horror Writers Association. He grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida. But after many travels and adventures, he settled down in Tampa, Florida with his wonderful wife and son, and a stray cat they adopted. I enjoyed reading this book By Kat's Reading Space I enjoyed reading this book....it kept me guessing as to who was behind all the "bad" stuff...I can usually guess who. I was surprised at the ending, didn't guess the ending and yet liked how it ended. A quick and engaging read.

Safir Let me say I was a fan of Mark Lukens after reading Ancient Enemy, to which I gave 5 stars. I thought it was a terrific supernatural thriller. Even to the end, it had a lot of guessing and things left unsaid. I love that. I next read the Exorcist's Apprentice and really liked that one, too. I don't remember if I gave that 4 or 5 stars. I was expecting as much with Night Terrors. In fact, I have a whole bunch of Mark's books on my wish list. I intend to read The Summoning, next. So this 3-star review is somewhat a statement of my expectations of Mr. Lukens, as it is an overall rating. I didn't feel it was up to his best. Understand that 3 stars means I thought it was okay. It is not a very negative review. I just expected more. Though there was the supernatural element (somewhat) in that the protagonist, Tara, had psychic powers and especially connected with the killer and his killings. But after that it really was a typical serial killer suspense novel. It followed a very formulaic plot and I even guessed the killer way ahead of time. It was not that hard, if you've read a lot of thrillers. The writing was good. The characters were fine. The idea was a bit cliché and that already made it hard to stand out. Given the premise, I'm not sure what he could have done differently, but it read like many other thrillers I have read. Not to say it was not enjoyable, just a bit too predictable and pat. And far from the supernatural mystery of Ancient Enemy. If you're looking for an easy read serial killer book, with psychic overtones, you may give this four stars. If you've read many of those kind of books and you're looking for something like Ancient Enemy, go with my 3 stars. It's okay, but not great. I really feel bad giving Mr. Lukens only 3 stars and hope for more from the next book of his. (I guess I'm in the minority on this review.)
