[Read by Patrick Lawlor] Suzanne Brockmann, bestselling author of When Tony Met Adam and the pulse-pounding 'Troubleshooters' series, has been hailed by USA Today as a ''superstar of romantic suspense.'' In this original short story, Brockmann returns with two of her most beloved characters from the Troubleshooters world: operative Jules Cassidy and his husband, Robin. After years of playing the tormented actor Joe Laughlin on the hit television show Shadowland, Hollywood star Robin Chadwick Cassidy is ready for a change. Joe's character embodies the real demons of Robin's past - his struggle with his sexuality, his battle with alcoholism - and portraying the part has taken a heavy toll on his personal life. Robin's husband, FBI agent Jules Cassidy, has noticed the strain and will do whatever he can to make Robin happy. And what Robin has in mind will forever transform his career, his marriage, and his family.

By Amazon Customer So, okay, after reading through some of these reviews, I am literally shaking my head at the amount of hate coming out of people about Suzanne Brockmann and her books, especially this one. And what kills me about that is, all Suzanne tries to spread is love, peace, and hope. It's $1.99 people! Not $100!Yes, it's short. But I thought short story was pretty self explanatory. It's not a novella. But it is packed full of Jules and Robin goodness. Would it be nice if it were longer? Hell yeah! That's only because I'm a greedy girl and I love my TS. But then it would be a novel, not a short story.Yes, it has quite a few scenes from Robin's tv show Shadowland. But for anyone that is a true Jules and Robin fan, you'll appreciate the significance of seeing what could have been Robin's path through Joe's eyes.Does it discuss gay issues and other real life issues? Umm, yeah! It's a Suzanne Brockmann book. And if you're a fan, then you know what to expect. Characters that are very, very real with flaws and doubts and insecurities, just like in real life. And short as it is, it's so nice to be taken on a quick trip with Jules and Robin again.Something else to keep in mind. Beginnings and Ends was meant to be a gift for Suz to give her fans for her virtual signing and at her book signings, for her new book, Born To Darkness. Because of the many people asking (that did not participate in either event) when they would be able to read it and how, it was arranged that it would be able to be purchased as an e-book. This was always supposed to be for the fans, and I would personally like to thank you, Suz! I'll take a little Jules and Robin over none any day!So, if you're a J&R fan, buy it! It's worth the $1.99 to visit with the boys for a few.

I have no doubt that Ms. Brockmann will eventually return to these characters in another TS book at some time, but her readers BEGGED for more Jules and Robin and she gave them to us---literally if you bought Born to Darkness as a preorder. I wish the story had been longer because I love these characters and always want more, being the greedy reader that I am. This is an enjoyable story, but it is just that---a story. If you are reader of Ms Brockmann's, go ahead and spend the $2. I think an interlude with Jules and Robin is well worth it.

Sorensen I've been reading Ms. Brockmann's books for more than 20 years. This SHORT STORY is as well written and does a wonderful job of setting up the next stage of Robin & Jules' life. There is a lot of back and forth between the character that Robin has played in the past couple of books, and the life that he shares with Jules. BUT ANYONE WHO HAS EVER READ A BOOK BY MS. BROCKMANN SHOULD BE USED TO THAT!! She has gone from old war stories to present day, or between one couple and another in almost every book she has ever written. There is not an excessive amount of time spent on the character, vs the life, because the story is simply too short to allow for huge changes in the way that Jules and Robin interact. While reading the past couple of books, I have repeatedly wondered how a recovering alcoholic, who was in constant denial(even to himself!) could find the strength to play a character who was so much like the person he was trying so hard not to be. This story shows the stress that Robin has been under, and how he decides to start living a happier life. The rest of this review has spoilers...I will be the first to admit that if..20 years ago... someone had asked me to read a story about 2 gay men...I'd have said "not interested". Yet, today, I will freely admit that Jules Cassidy is one of my all-time-favorite characters in fiction (although Suz...fewer "Sweeties" would be appreciated! LOL!). But you don't "pleasure read" about things that make you uncomfortable. At that time, I would have strongly objected to reading about 2 gay men who wanted to bring a child into that mix. NOT because I don't believe people should be able to live their dream of raising a child, but because I believe that life is hard enough for children, and that having to explain that they have 2 same-sex parents.....THEN having to take the back-lash from narrow minded people...would be an ongoing problem for children. For 2 parents who openly love their children, AND ARE SUCCESSFUL AT MAKING THE CHILD FEEL SECURE AND LOVED...this is enough of a problem. Unfortunately, most children are not being raised in such a secure atmosphere. Bringing a child into an unsecure situation is not fair (although...I am constantly reminding my kids that "Fair is where you go to buy cotton candy, and has NOTHING to do with real life!". The reality (of the world through the eyes of a woman who currently has 19 & 21 year old children) is, that there are so many forces that you can't control that are trying to rip apart families, that starting out with something a child is going to resent seems foolish. 20 years ago, I would have objected to 2 gay people having a child......for the child's sake. Fortunately, Susan Brockmann has been a leading force in bringing positive change to America's understanding of both the unfairness of the world's view of "gay", but also...an empathy for the relationship that exists between Jules and Robin (which...I will admit is significantly better than that of mine with my husband of 26 years! LOL!). I don't believe there has ever been a time in history where a child of 2 gay parents would be less ostracized than now. I can only hope that she can continue to force people to look at their own narrow-mindedness, and see it for the unfair attitude that it is. I had a Mom who was one of the most wonderful women on earth....who died believing she was a second class citizen for being born out-of-wedlock...how sad... I have a 1/2 black nephew, and 2 1/2 Latino nieces who believe they are second class citizen for being "1/2 breeds", I had an Uncle-in-law who was one of the most wonderful people, who died...having never loved, because he was gay, and although he felt that he was unavoidably gay, he also was raised to believe that he was NEVER supposed to act on those feeling.....so he died without the most basic right that humans have...to fall in love. What a huge waste of potential. Susan Brockmann...not everyone is going to love what you write, but that doesn't mean the world doesn't need to read it, or that you aren't changing the way we look at life...for the better. And for those people who are upset about the $1.99 spent.....you need more help than anyone giving reviews can offer. :(
