By Dawn Costello Here we are the final installment of the Ruthless People trilogy...American Savages, and I believe the best book of the series. That is saying a lot because I freaking love each book.I think the reason I loved AS so much was for one simple fact ...Liam Callahan! This IS Liam's book!!!He was in rare form and I just ate it up. Every despicable deed, every completely insane plan he formulated. But my absolutely favorite part of Liam ' s "rebirth", as I like to call it, was his need to get control of Mel. Liam, for me became the man he was always intended to be, but had not pushed far enough. Mel's disappearing act pushed him too far. He, again for me, became Ruthless in his pursuit to make Mel understand once and for all, HE was a man in control. I absolutely loved Liam.He has grown so much form the man he was in Ruthless People. Gone is the spoiled, entitled man. He is a man on a mission and with one clear path... make everyone pay for hurting his family. His rise to power began with a man trying to hurry and prove himself... his guard slips... he fixes it and rules with a calmer head... it was a beautiful thing to see.Mel, makes a spectacular return and I mean really, was there ever any doubt? We see the light in Liam's eyes when she does appear, but that quickly fades when he demands answers. Not gonna lie, I did enjoy the bit of hell Liam put her through. It broke my heart when he saw her for the first time in months . But then he tells her exactly how he felt and she was not prepared for his coldness. She must learn that sometimes showing weakness towards those you love the most, does not mean that you are weak. The evolution of Liam and Melody, is absolutely fantastic. And the ending of the book, will BLOW YOU AWAY!The depth and richness of the characters in AS is fantastic. Miss McAvoy, does not disappoint at all. She has written a book, a series that is like nothing else out there. Its not pretty, its ugly and hard to not hate these people. But each of them have qualities that make you just root for them... Except Olivia... GOD I HATED HER!If you are a fan of this series, we get everything we have ever wanted, and by that, Olivia finally gets what she deserves!!! I can not remember a time when I wanted a character in a book to die so badly. And not just die, suffer a horrible death... does that make me Ruthless???We get to see Neal step up in a BIG way and redeem himself in Liam eyes. I really am happy that Neal found happiness... SHHH, I can't give it away.Now, on to my favorites... Declan and Coraline or as I like to call them... "the bright spot!" I adore these two characters...Dec is so loving and passionate about his wife, almost to a fault when you are in a Mob family. He never puts anything before Coraline, and if he did she would not bat an eye. The family comes first! Coreline, is just the sweetest thing, she is loving and always tries to play peace maker, even when there is a snowballs chance in hell that peace could happen. Plus she is sort of a bada$$! And HELLO, "Free Liam" T shirts... hilarious and the most perfect way to describe her... LOYAL.This is Coraline talking to Mel."Mel, just tell him you're sorry." She added and I turned, smiling at Ethan's head ."I know you love him and he loves you. You both have gone through hell together and apart, but at least when you're both together you can find comfort in each other. When you love someone, you just have to let them win sometimes. It doesn't mean you're weak. It doesn't mean that you are any less of the woman he fell in love with . He would walk through fire to you... while you were gone he told Evelyn to show Ethan pictures of you. He wouldn't let any one of us doubt you. Give him this and move on Mel, if you truly love him or you will lose him permanently. I'm sure you all will still have plenty of fights in the future."I am so happy Declan and Coraline got a happy ending!!! Just wait you will see.Evelyn, is a bit more vocal in AS. She has had enough and lets them all know it. I have always enjoyed her character and wanted to know more about her and Sedric's past... we get that!!! And that is all I am going to say about that.Sedric, he has always been one of my faves. He does not disappoint at all. I love it when he gets all fired up. Sedric has always had the best interest of the family in mind when making decisions regarding their future. He will die before someone in his family is in danger.So much happens and so much history is revealed, my mind had to take time to process it. The way it is all wrapped is so impressive, I found myself yelling at my husband. He walked in to ask me something, I was at 94% I looked up and pointed at the door and said "Nope, s%it is blowing up and people are dying, I need you to leave." I am not kidding. The final chapters are so intense, I flew through them. Only to get to the epilogue that I, FA-REE-KING LOVED!!! We are treated to the future and a glimpse of where the family is years later. You will love it!I almost feel like I should warn you all to be prepared for your heart to ripped out and stomped on. Be prepared to fall in love with Liam in a whole new way. Be prepared for a whole new level of sexiness between Liam and Mel... HOT.And finally, be prepared to understand that, just because these are Ruthless People and would do horrible things to you and yours, they are a very loving and loyal Family!I love this series so much, and Miss McAvoy is an amazing story teller! I honestly do not think this review will do this story justice, but I certainly will not spoil it for you! I also, believe that this should be the end of our beloved Ruthless People... I mean you really can not go out on a bigger BANG!!!!!
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. 5 Perfectly Ending Stars By Deanna PinkLady Melody and Liam Callahan are a couple that I LOVE. This series will be in my All Time Favorites. The author managed to write a story that gripped me completely. Twists and turns, smiles and tears, love and hate, life and death, it had it all and then, it had an epilogue that was brilliant!!This book is the ending to a trilogy. I can tell you about the story but if you haven't read the first two books then I feel telling you things will spoil your ride.But what I want to tell you is to READ THIS SERIES. It's about the Mafia, it's about killing, it's about revenge BUT it's also about family, it's about love and it's also very sexy.JJ didn't hold back in this book. We see all the repercussions of Mel being away for months and Liam being in jail. Revenge is the motive in this book and it’s a wild ride. Did I mind what happened to Olivia- absolutely not!!! But I did mind what happened to someone else- it brought tears. I didn't want it to be true but being in the Mafia has its consequences. But the letter after the event was heartfelt and beautiful. One of my favorite parts in the book.The banter between Mel and Liam is one of the best ever. I can feel their connection and it's really magical. Both being Bosses is quite extraordinary; their personalities are both dominant yet tender to one another. Mel's sass and Liam's forcefulness is truly amazing. I actually loved the dynamics of the entire family. Sedric and Evelyn, Declan and Cora, and Neal and Olivia are all instrumental within the family. Their roles enhance the story, give it depth and give it intrigue. It's quite special because no matter what, family is first........you live and breathe for your family and the Callahan Family does it spectacularly.I wish that I was somehow involved in the entertainment industry. This series would make a kickass HBO movie/series. I loved the Sopranos, I loved The Godfather trilogy, I just love all Mafia type movies ( I may be a little partial as I'm half Italian) and this series is pure entertainment at its best!!Thank you JJ for this incredible family, this wild ride and for all the 50 rules. I also loved how Liam added a 51st rule. I wish there were more rules to come but I can honestly say that I'm happy with the ending to this fantastic story.Copy graciously given by author in exchange for an honest review

That could very well be the theme of this whole series, but most certainly is the motto of this book.Liam and Melody came into each others lives, kicking, screaming and yes, even shooting. They are unlike any couple I’ve read about previously. As the respective heads of their Mafia families, they rule with a iron fist and aren’t afraid to get dirty, and bloody to make a point. There union was filled with passion and anger. Hate and love. They fight mean. But love harder. And this conclusion to their story, showcases the strength of this couple. They truly can survive anything.While they went into their marriage fighting, now they will do everything in their power to save each other, their family, and their legacy.“I’m going to have you tonight, baby, but my question to you is: do you want one orgasm, or do you want to lose track?”This series is unlike other mafia books and movies I have read or watched. Most feature a man or group of men in charge, who rule their families and build their empire. The women usually play a small role, typically spending their husband’s dirty money. But Melody is no typical Mafia wife. She can go toe to toe with Liam, and its worth repeating, she is one of my favorite female book characters. She doesn’t back down from anyone, even the President of the United States. She exudes confidence and power, with only brief moments of vulnerability. She’s not only tougher than some men I know, but also really smart. She always seemed to have a plan and be two steps ahead.Now, I could go on and on about why I like her as a character so much, but if you’ve read the previous books you know, she is not a heroine. She is the definition of an anti-heroine, just as Liam is the anti-hero. They don’t just kill bad guys, many innocent lives are lost as they gain power. Did motherhood soften her up? Not so much.While Melody and Liam are far from angels, there are villains in this book that will have you cheering for these mobsters. Olivia made the decision to go to the dark side in the previous book. Her reasons for turning on her own family were deep seated in jealously. She makes some very unwise decisions along the way, but believe me when I say, she pays for those decisions.Then there is the evil FBI Director, Avian Doers. If you follow our blog regularly, you know that we are in the tail end of Month of Madness tournament, to find the Best of the Worst. Avian could have easily made a run in this tournament. Despite his prestigious title, he is evil. Hell bent on control and power. Although he has moments of outsmarting our dirty family, they have an Ace in the deck to win their hand. And yes, even a morally flawed family can get a HEA.With Melody and Liam’s story coming to an end, I’m sad to see them go. They have thoroughly entertained me as they navigate the world of crime and power. Lots of blood was spilled, lots of lives were lost. Along the way, one vulnerability, family, showed they weren’t untouchable.
